Abstract

Schools in the Indonesia-Timor Leste border region, including SMP Negeri 2 Atambua, face unique challenges in instilling national values in students living in a diverse social and cultural environment. By implementing a conflict resolution approach in social studies, teachers can transform the learning process into an educational tool to foster national awareness and tolerance among students living in the border region. This study aims to determine and describe the application of the conflict resolution approach in social studies learning as an educational instrument to instill nationalist values in schools in the Indonesia-Timor Leste border area. The location of the study was at SMP Negeri 2 Atambua, with research subjects including teachers, students, principals, and other related parties. The method used was a qualitative case study, through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies. The results of the study indicate that the application of the conflict resolution approach in social studies learning can create a harmonious learning atmosphere and reduce social tensions between students, while at the same time instilling nationalist values related to Indonesian history, state symbols, and the importance of maintaining the integrity of the nation. However, there are challenges faced, such as limited resources, facilities, and teacher training, as well as complex socio-cultural dynamics in the border area. The implementation of this approach is expected to be a strategic instrument in strengthening the nationalist character in the border area.

Abstract

The "Contact" column is a matchmaking agency through classified ads published in the Kompas daily since 1978. The existence of this column reveals that print media plays a role in shaping social interaction patterns and the representation of cultural values during the transition to modernity. This article uses historical methods by exploring this column to reveal how individuals display their identities, construct ideal partner images, and negotiate traditional and modern values. The analysis shows that although the "Contact" column offers a modern medium that allows for a more open matchmaking process, traditional values such as religious beliefs and ethnicity remain important elements in determining potential partners. At the same time, new criteria have emerged, such as education level, occupation, and economic status, which are influenced by educational quality. This study confirms that the practice of matchmaking through print media is a form of adaptation of tradition within a modern framework.

Abstract

This article examines in depth the cultural values manifested and passed down through the Japin Sigam Dance performance in Kotabaru, South Kalimantan. This research is motivated by the importance of documenting the substantive values of traditional dances threatened by globalization. The Japin Sigam Dance is a unique Japin variant originating in the Sigam Kingdom (Pulau Laut) since the 1850s and serves as a dance of respect and social interaction for young men and women bound by religious and customary norms. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, employing an analytical approach grounded in a systematic literature review and field data. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, document studies, and documentation. The results and discussion indicate that the cultural values in Japin Sigam are divided into three main aspects: Social Values and Solidarity (reflected in team harmony and respect for guests); Ethical Values and Politeness (embodied in gentle movements, restrained social interactions, and costumes that cover the genitals); and the Values of Wisdom and Life Philosophy (contained in the back-and-forth movements that teach wisdom and adaptation to coastal culture). These values, reinforced by the religious lyrics of Pasisiran songs, reinforce the Banjar cultural identity that must be preserved.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the responses of students who are completing their final assignments in receiving social support from peers. This study is a qualitative study using a descriptive phenomenological approach. The stages used in this study include data collection, data analysis and data validity testing. The results of the study show that students provide two forms of responses, namely (1) closed responses in the form of feelings such as happiness, someone paying attention, sadness, shame, and depression; and (2) open responses in the form of behavioral changes such as being more diligent, more productive, more effective when given social support in the form of direct advice to implement the advice given. These findings indicate that peer social support plays an important role emotionally and behaviorally in accelerating the completion of final assignments.

Abstract

Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) are positioned as strategic instruments for fostering rural self-reliance through the collective management of local resources. In practice, BUMDes function not only as economic entities but also as socio-political arenas characterized by complex dynamics of power relations, conflicts of interest, and negotiations among village actors. This study aims to analyze the social dynamics in the management of BUMDes by comparing two village cases in Karang Intan Subdistrict, namely Mandi Kapau Timur Village and Sungai Landas Village. This research employs a qualitative approach using Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving participatory observation and in-depth interviews. The analysis is conducted through the perspectives of hybrid institutions and the bundle of rights framework. The findings reveal two distinct developmental trajectories of BUMDes: a consolidative pathway and a fragmentative pathway. Mandi Kapau Timur Village demonstrates institutional consolidation through clear business differentiation, equitable benefit distribution, and strong social legitimacy, which collectively drives socio-economic transformation. In contrast, Sungai Landas Village exhibits business fragmentation that directly competes with local livelihoods, leading to conflicts of interest and weakening social legitimacy. These findings highlight that BUMDes success is shaped not only by capital or business type, but by the ability to balance economic and social dimensions, align collective and individual interests, and manage power relations inclusively. Accordingly, recommendations for BUMDes development should be accompanied by strengthening socio-political governance, and villages must ensure business differentiation that does not directly compete with local economic activities.

Abstract

Inclusive development is development that provides equal opportunities for all members of society to participate and benefit from development without discrimination. This study aims to analyze the factors causing low social and economic inequality in Bendorejo Hamlet, Sumberagung Village, Ngantang District, Malang Regency. This phenomenon is interesting because the distribution of income in the hamlet tends to be even, in contrast to the general conditions in rural areas in Indonesia. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study, involving the Hamlet Head, community leaders, residents, and business groups. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies, analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, & Saldana model and tested through triangulation. The results show that low inequality is influenced by a culture of mutual cooperation, social solidarity, participatory leadership, and trust-based local economic management. The inclusive and participatory development model strengthens social justice. This research contributes to the academic literature and can be a practical reference for village governments and inspiration for other regions.

Abstract

Globalization and modernization have caused an identity crisis among the younger generation. This brings a strong influence of foreign cultures, causing local values, lifestyles, and cultural orientations to shift gradually. Education plays a crucial role in reinstilling a sense of cultural identity. The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of integrating Butonese cultural values through the use of Wolio in social studies learning and the impact of this integration on the cultural identity awareness of ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi. The research approach uses a qualitative research type with a case study design. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects include ninth-grade students and social studies teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Baubau. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the integration of Butonese cultural values into social studies learning is effective through various strategies such as folktales and proverbs. This confirms that the integration of Butonese cultural values through Wolio language in learning plays an important role as a learning medium that supports the installation of students' cultural identity awareness.

Abstract

The implementation of the Loloda wedding tradition is full of values. Still, it seems not yet well understood by the Loloda ethnic community in North Halmahera, especially the younger generation, so its existence is in danger. This condition has led to this traditional wedding practice no longer being practiced in its entirety. Various factors influence this, including economic limitations. Based on this, this study aims to: (1) describe the implementation of the Loloda wedding tradition, (2) analyze the cultural values contained in the implementation of the Loloda wedding tradition, and (3) identify supporting and inhibiting factors for the preservation of Loloda cultural values in the implementation of the wedding tradition. The study used a qualitative, ethnographic approach. The research subjects were Village Heads, traditional leaders, religious leaders, academics, youth leaders, community leaders, and community members. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that (1) the local community still maintains the implementation of the Loloda marriage tradition. The stages of the marriage tradition are still carried out today. Efforts to maintain this tradition continue despite the challenges of modernization. (2) Local cultural values in the implementation of marriage traditions include the values of deliberation, unity, cooperation, religiosity, togetherness, kinship, appreciation, exogamy, and moral values. (3) The preservation of cultural values in the Loloda marriage tradition is influenced by supporting factors, namely, the existence of family support. These communities still maintain customs, the application of customary law, the togetherness of the prospective bride and groom, and the completeness of the traditional equipment used in the traditional procession. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include the lack of family approval, economic factors, and globalization.
