Abstract

It is the responsibility of lecturers to instill knowledge and good morals in their students, whether in the lecture hall or in online classes, as was the case during the 2020 pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus. This article aims to describe lecturers’ efforts to turn their students into “people with intellect” (ūlū al-albāb) who are critical, reflective and morally mature individuals. This study is based on qualitative research, employing data mining through observation, learning documentation, and interviews. The data were collated and subjected to analysis in order to reduce, present, conclude and verify them. The research was conducted at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, with a particular focus on the manifestation of ūlū al-albāb traits among the student population. The findings revealed that the lecturers employed a distinctive approach in the online setting, encompassing a gentle approach (maw’ziah hasanah), attention, affection, exercises, assignments, discussions, and the provision of solutions. While conducting their lessons online, the lecturers continued to support and evaluate their students’ attitudes and academic progress, without noticing any decline in their mid-semester and final examination results. There was also a notable improvement in the students’ critical thinking abilities, as evidenced by the quality of their thesis proposals. The students demonstrated consistent mastery of the learning material and a creative approach to research.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to ascertain the learning strategies employed in the context of the New Normal Era. In recent years, Indonesia has been particularly affected by the global pandemic of the novel coronavirus, which has precipitated a profound transformation in all aspects of life. The field study was conducted at the Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Situbondo institution, as it was deemed an appropriate setting in which to observe and analyse teaching and learning processes, and to identify strategies that facilitate ongoing learning. This study employs a qualitative descriptive analysis strategy. In the context of the new normal era, human resource management plays a pivotal role in enhancing learning techniques through concerted efforts, a well-considered approach, and a systematic debriefing process. This is particularly evident in the area of information technology abilities and virtual learning habits, as evidenced by the survey results. In the context of the new normal period, the most effective learning method is to adhere to the regulations set forth by the Ministry of Education and Culture regarding virtual learning on an approved platform. To reduce misunderstandings between teachers and students, it is essential that both parties have the necessary tools, credentials, and awareness of the factors that will determine the course of learning. In order to prevent dishonesty, laziness, and cheating on tests, students study at home under the guidance and supervision of their parents, thereby maintaining the standards of ethics, morals, and norms in academia.

Abstract

The advent of online learning for Islamic education can be attributed to the global impact of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. Islamic education is a significant field of study that plays a pivotal role in fostering the personal dignity of individuals through the guidance of Islamic principles and teachings. However, the pandemic has introduced a number of challenges that have an impact on the effectiveness of online learning for Islamic education. The objective of this study is to ascertain the circumstances prevailing in Indonesia with regard to the online teaching of Islamic Education, with a particular focus on Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Ternate. The researchers employed a qualitative methodology and a phenomenological approach, which was further elucidated through field research. The data employed in this study are primary and secondary data obtained directly from the research site, namely MAN 1 Ternate, as well as from a number of studies on the online learning of Islamic education in Indonesia. The findings of the study indicate that the institution in Indonesia has not yet achieved the desired effectiveness of online learning of Islamic education. Similarly, this is also the case at MAN 1 Ternate, where online learning of Islamic education is not yet considered to be adequate. This is due to the fact that the level of understanding among students is not yet optimal, despite the sufficient preparation of teachers.

Abstract

Since the World Health Organization (WHO) designated the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) a pandemic, a significant proportion of activities across all domains of life have encountered challenges, including those pertaining to education. The Indonesian learning process is confronted with a series of alterations that require the ingenuity of educational institutions to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19). One of the most efficacious methods is the implementation of active learning. The objective of this paper is to identify the types of active learning methods that can be employed, the active learning process itself, and the outcomes of active learning. The focus of this paper is Al-Ma’arif Junior High School, situated in Jombang-Jember. It can thus be concluded that the active learning methods implemented are group discussion, social observation, inductive learning, contextual, presentation, problem-solving, and demonstration. Furthermore, the active learning process is comprised of three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. Finally, the results of this method are evidenced by the development of students’ abilities in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains.

Abstract

This study analyses the influence of distance learning policies implemented in Indonesia during the pandemic period (2019-2021) on instances of early marriage in the Ambunten District of Sumenep Regency, East Java. This study utilises primary data obtained from interviews with children who were married early between December 2019 and April 2021. Five informants who had been married at an early age were selected for interview. Furthermore, observations were conducted regarding the implementation of distance learning and early marriage in the region. The findings indicate that distance learning plays a role in perpetuating the culture of early marriage in Sumenep District. This is perceived as a means of mitigating the impact of young people's association, namely adultery. The absence of parental guidance and support, coupled with the lack of environmental and structural support for early marriage, results in students prioritising marriage over education.

Abstract

The advancement of modern science has had a considerable impact on Islamic education, necessitating a shift in focus from its traditional role as a moral foundation to one of competition with public education. This research project examines strategies for enhancing the quality of Islamic education and attracting public interest. It employs a multi-site study of two Islamic educational institutions: The two Islamic educational institutions under consideration are MTs Darul Hikmah Tulungagung and MTs Mamba’ul Ulum Tulungagung. A qualitative approach was employed to collect data through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Informants included school heads, deputies, teachers, and student guardians. The findings indicate that both institutions implement total quality management strategies, with a particular focus on enhancing the competence of educators, improving facilities, optimising educational management, refining learning processes, developing graduate competencies, enhancing evaluations, and securing adequate funding. Furthermore, they proactively disseminate information about their institution through social and mass media in order to influence public perception. The aforementioned continuous quality improvement efforts have resulted in a notable increase in the number of student applicants on an annual basis, thereby demonstrating the efficacy of the strategies employed in enhancing the institution’s appeal and competitiveness.

Abstract

In 2011, the residents of Ponorogo were taken aback by the sudden appearance of “Kampung Gila” in Paringan Jenangan Ponorogo village, where 60 individuals were identified as suffering from mental disorders. A survey conducted by the Malang Mental Hospital and the Ponorogo Regional Government revealed that a significant proportion of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia experienced discrimination, including being confined by their families and communities. Despite the long-standing nature of this issue, it was not addressed with any urgency. One strategy to address mental health issues in Paringan was based on a religious framework. This approach integrates medical treatment with Islamic religious education, with the objective of providing patients with guidance from both familial and religious sources. Parents, with varying degrees of religious comprehension and disparate parenting styles, assume a pivotal role in the coaching process. The results of this guidance have been favourable, with patients displaying increased independence, emotional stability and social sensitivity. Furthermore, they are able to engage in worship with greater regularity and dedication, and to live more productive and fulfilling lives without causing harm to their families or to the wider community.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to affirm students’ self-identity through the implementation of biblio-consultation, which is informed by local wisdom, within the context of Islamic education. The concept of self-identity is reflected in the student’s sense of identity, which is inextricably linked to their regional cultural identity and forms a fundamental aspect of their national identity. The identity crisis experienced by students during the development of the contemporary era represents a significant challenge for the field of education. The transformation of local values in the contemporary era, if left unaddressed, may result in a loss of identity among students. An alternative solution would be to instill the values of local wisdom as an indigenous force within the region, thereby influencing the identity of the students. This research employs a qualitative hermeneutic approach. The objective of hermeneutics is to ascertain the underlying significance of a text and to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the intersubjective process. The research was conducted with the participation of several high school students in East Pontianak, with the objective of affirming their identity through the medium of bibliotherapy. The approach of biblio-counselling incorporates the values of local wisdom of Malay ethnicity and the use of stories that facilitate the students’ engagement with the situation and conditions they are reading about. The students engage in introspective reflection and the formulation of novel, constructive behavioural modifications. It is possible for students to possess a broad or global mindset while nevertheless exhibiting behaviours and manners that are consistent with Eastern cultural norms.

Abstract

This article explores the implementation of the values of moderation (tawāsuṭ), equilibration (tawāzun), balance (i’tidāl), and tolerance (tasāmuḥ) at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FTIK) State Islamic University Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq (UIN KHAS) Jember, including the role of focus group discussions. The method used in this research-based community service was qualitative research with participatory action. The results of the service showed that the effort to reinforce the values of religious moderation in the institution is implemented by organizing workshops that are open to lecturers, education staff, and students. Tawāzun values are strengthened by practicing discipline, time management, and activities as well as developing self-potential through extra and intra-campus activities. I‘tidāl values are strengthened by enforcing rules and regulations, UKT financing in accordance with the capacity and ability of students, and continuously strengthening the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamah learning environment. Meanwhile, tasāmuḥ values are enhanced by respecting differences of opinion and organizations. The supporting factors in efforts to strengthen the value of religious moderation at FTIK UIN KHAS Jember are support from the dean, high enthusiasm from students, lecturers, and education staff, teamwork, and the availability of supportive funds. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factor is time constraints due to signal constraints for those who join through online or Zoom meetings.
