Abstract

Swimming athletes must be committed to their training, especially those who are still young. However, not all young swimmers are entirely committed to their training. As a result, the purpose of this study is to link a young swimmer’s motivation with a commitment they make throughout training. The quantitative descriptive method was utilized in this study, and data was collected utilizing total sampling procedures. The population and sample used were young swimmers aged 13–17, while the indicators used were the adoption of the sport commitment scale and motivation level. The Pearson correlation test yielded Sig results. (2-tailed) = 0.625, which is larger than 0.05, indicating that the two variables are unrelated. The conclusion is that a swimmer’s training commitment is not necessarily determined by their motivation. Because the majority of these young swimmers are self-motivated, they are less likely to develop burnout during training.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess the degree of community engagement, physical fitness, and sports advancement in the Langkat District, using the community involvement index and physical fitness index for the year 2020. This study employed a descriptive evaluation strategy, survey research, and quantitative methods. The research sample comprised a total of ninety individuals from Langkat District. Questionnaires and evaluation processes were utilised as data gathering approaches. The precision of the measuring device is one of the factors that make up the Sport Development Index (SDI). The subsequent passage provides a concise overview of the discoveries made in this investigation. (1) The community participation index was computed to be 0.388. (2) The community's physical fitness score of 0.351 suggests that the degree of sports engagement in the community is at a low level. This is evident from the community engagement index, which indicates that the degree of community fitness is insufficient. The community's fitness level is low, as seen by the community physical fitness index. Moreover, the indicator of 0.369 signifies a low level of sports growth in relation to community involvement and physical well-being. Ultimately, the indicators for community involvement, physical well-being, and athletic advancement in Langkat District are all significantly deficient.

Abstract

Objectives—This pilot project, aimed at investigating body type, strength, and flexibility as risk factors for injury amongst Bina Guna College of Sports and Health Students, has yielded significant findings. Methods—Fifteen subjects volunteered to participate in the present study. An ex-post facto study design using independent samples was employed. Injury history was established through the use of a questionnaire. From this information, each individual's injury status was categorized as "high" or "low" using a previously designed and validated scoring system. Body-type ratings were determined, followed by tests to assess muscular endurance, strength, and flexibility. Results—A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) revealed no significant difference between groups of low and high injury rates and the dependent variables selected. However, the univariate analysis suggested trends indicating that the low-injury subjects were more flexible (back extension and ankle dorsiflexion) than those who reported more injuries (P=0.013). Independent t-tests revealed that between groups of low and high injury rates, there were significant age differences (P=0.002), stature (P=0.006), body mass (P=0.001), and years of gymnastics training (P=0.016). Conclusions—In the present study, strength, and body type proved not to be good indicators of an individual's susceptibility to injury. However, trends suggest low flexibility levels may predispose a gymnast to injury. The incidence of injury may also be related to the number of years an individual has participated in competitive gymnastics. In addition, older, taller, and heavier gymnasts may be at greater risk of injuries. These findings are crucial for the development of tailored training methods and injury prevention strategies, and they have significant implications for coaches in selecting and training future gymnasts
