Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has required every element of education, especially educators, to adapt, such as changing teaching methods from face-to-face (offline) learning to distance learning (online). Educators for all subjects, including English. Therefore, this community service program aims to contribute to the English Language Teachers' Association (MGMP) of State Senior High Schools and Vocational High Schools in Surabaya in the process of teaching English, particularly reading, during the COVID-19 pandemic by utilizing the Canvas Instructure platform through technical guidance for educators/teachers at State Senior High Schools and Vocational High Schools in Surabaya. The objectives of this technical guidance are: 1) to introduce the Canvas Instructure application platform as one of the Learning Management Systems (LMS) for teaching reading skills in English language classes; 2) to provide technical guidance to educators/teachers in developing English language teaching materials using the Canvas Instructure LMS learning platform; 3) to provide technical guidance to educators/teachers on practicing online learning using the Canvas Instructure LMS for the developed teaching materials; and 4) to monitor the implementation of Canvas Instructure in English language subjects, particularly reading skills, using the teaching materials developed by the school.

Abstract

This community service project is based on the partner's need for the development of tourist attractions for the Grama Tirta Tourism Village in Toyomarto Singosari. The development of tourist attractions is directed at developing creative craft spot designs to strengthen the capacity of Toyomarto Village as a tourism village. Therefore, this community service project aims to develop creative craft spot designs and create creative craft spots in collaboration with the Toyomarto Village Government. The methods used to achieve this objective include surveys and observations as preliminary studies, followed by focus group discussions (FGD) with relevant parties (the village, expert team, and service project team) to formulate the design of creative handicraft spots, determine the appropriate location, and agree on various technical aspects related to the creation of creative handicraft spots. Finally, the project concluded with a symbolic handover and evaluation of the creative craft spot. The outputs of this community service project include an article on the project's findings and a documentary video/news report in the media.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to train and assist teachers in conducting classroom action research and writing up the results of their research in a scientific paper. Teachers are equipped with fundamental understanding so that they can conduct classroom action research and write scientific papers based on the results of their research. The participants are English teachers in Malang. The activity consists of several stages conducted through both face-to-face meetings and online classes. The results of this activity show that the teachers have a better understanding of conducting and writing down the results of classroom action research, as evidenced by the content of their research reports, which have improved in terms of research background and research methods. In the online sessions, the teachers gave very positive responses, as evidenced by the discussions and active participation among participants and with the service team. This PTK training and mentoring for teachers has significantly contributed positively to improving the quality of learning in the classroom and the quality of teachers in conducting and writing research results. Abstract

The purpose of implementing the Community Prescription was to increase the knowledge and skills of teachers in SD N 1 and 2 Setu using Microsoft Excel to recapitulate student data and values so that this is a solution for teachers and admin staff. They no longer use manual methods. The implementation of this activity is carried out in three stages: preparation, performance, and evaluation. The implementation stage starts with the basics of using Microsoft Excel. At the preparation stage, the community service team was surveyed to determine the conditions and analyse the places to use. Next, the team prepares the material to be given in providing training to community service participants. This service activity involves presentations, lectures with questions and answers, and practice. While delivering the material, the community service team conducted a question-and-answered session with the participants, who were expected to interact with the servants and the participants. The last stage is the evaluation stage. The community service team gives the participants time to make examples of inputting data and student grades in the rankings.

Abstract

Regional development with the concept of a smart city is not only oriented towards the economy, but also considers human resource development and continues to consider environmental sustainability. One dimension of a smart city is a smart environment, which means development that continues to protect the environment, for the concept of sustainable development. The outcomes of development should not only focus on economic growth but also prioritize community empowerment. The objective of this activity is to raise awareness through outreach about the importance of proper environmental conservation. This community service initiative begins with group discussions, preparation, observation, and outreach. The methods employed include outreach, training, and simulation. The delivery of socialization and training materials is carried out using several relevant methods, namely: lectures, question-and-answer sessions, and discussions. The hope of this community service is to increase community participation, especially among the younger generation, in environmental conservation, as well as to foster awareness among the community to maintain environmental cleanliness and have green open spaces free from pollution. Through this, the community and the younger generation will have healthy and clean minds and be free from diseases caused by a dirty environment.

Abstract

Abstract The strategy of collaborative writing as a means of increasing the success of learning English has been widely studied. Most of the research on the two strategies aforementioned emphasized more on the perspective of students and teachers using conventional methods. However, research on how to use collaborative writing strategies and feedback using Google Docs is least investigated. Therefore, this article aims to describe the process of implementing English language learning through collaborative writing training for Senior High School teachers in Surabaya by using Google Docs application. This training was conducted by English Department of the University of Adi Buana Surabaya in collaboration with MGMP (Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran) Bahasa Inggris or English Teacher Working Group as a part of community service. It is held online and was attended by 65 participants for three days. The data were obtained from the survey, language teachers’ reflections, as well as interview and analysed using content analysis. The results of the data analysis show that in addition to increasing teacher knowledge about the two learning strategies – collaborative writing and corrective feedback, the teachers also get hands-on experience applying these learning strategies with the help of technology applications on Google. Moreover, the collaborative writing and corrective feedback learning strategy through Google Docs provides new nuances in learning English and help motivates teachers to write in groups which in turn can increase interest in publication as part of increasing teacher professionalism.Keywords: learning strategy; collaborative writing; synchronous corrective feedback; Google Docs

Abstract

Japanese is one of the foreign languages that many students learn in Indonesia, including at MAN1 Pasuruan. Students of MAN 1 Pasuruan have a great curiosity about Japanese culture, especiallyabout the lives of Japanese high school students, shodou 'Japanese calligraphy', Japanese language,and JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test). However, learning Japanese at MAN 1 Pasuruanhas limited learning time, so that during learning hours it is more focused on teaching basicJapanese, while teaching about Japanese culture and JLPT is still very necessary. Therefore, thiscommunity service activity aims to increase students' understanding and interest in Japanese cultureand language so that students can measure their own learning success and Japanese language skillswith JLPT test. This community service activities were carried out at MAN 1 Pasuruan using ablended method which was attended by 50 students (40 students via online and 10 students viaoffline) from class X Language, XI Language, and XII Language by introducing Japanese highschool life, simulations of JLPT test, as well as demonstrations and shodou workshops by nativespeakers and experts who expert in their fields. The high activity and enthusiasm of students showsthat this community service program is very much needed by MAN 1 Pasuruan to accommodate theneeds and to increase students' interest in learning Japanese language and culture that has beenlearned during teaching and learning activities in class.Keywords: Japanese culture, Japanese high school student life, shodou, Japanese language, JLPT

Abstract

Writing scientific articles requires a skill, especially for teachers who want to improve their careers. However, not all teachers have the skills to write good scientific articles. This community service was carried out in two high schools, and three elementary schools in Pasuruan Regency which was held in the year 2020. The community service involved five lecturers across study programs, namely lecturers from English language education, Indonesian language and literature education, and mathematics education. This service aims to describe 1) the problems encountered by the teacher when writing scientific articles, 2) describe the stages of problem solving, and 3) describe the results that have been achieved during mentoring in writing scientific articles for publication. The problem of identifications show that teachers lack of knowledge and skills regarding how to write abstracts,  good background for scientific articles, presentation of discussions,  and writing a bibliography. The stages of problem solving are divided into three stages, namely 1) the planning stage, 2) the implementation stage, and 3) the publication stage. The results of the service show that there are three teachers who can meet the minimum standards of scientific articles to be published in scientific journals. The three articles were published in scientific journals selected by their respective authors and are currently published in a national non-accredited journal.

Abstract

There was education a formal and also non formal a formal education and non formal definitely different intensity of the time that do even though the subjects given the same, an example in mathematics in the basic level. Recognition this activity aimed to provide knowledge to kids who do not school (formal), non so that they know the numbers to be able to count the base of. Method devotion is by lectures, discussion and practices. The one conducted by a team devotion in this activity is the stage, preparation and training in the implementation stage and the evaluation. From the introduction of the activities and operated the activities conducted there are 6, following are: 1) know the 1-10; 2) the rank; 3)counting the number of; 4) know the count and operation; 5) operates a sum that is using the picture; 6) operates colored using a photo of the reduction. This activity, succeded is conducted it turn out that kids love to play the media, colored although, takes time yet the sons feeling easily in the memorization and children able to operate the 1-10. Addition and subtraction in the process.

Abstract

The National Examination (UN), carried out so far, will be replaced in 2021 with the 2021 National Assessment. In this national assessment, three instruments are elements of the evaluation: Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM), Character Survey, and School Environment Survey. AKM itself is an assessment of essential competencies needed by all students at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels to develop their capacity and participate actively and positively in society. After the MOU with the Japanese Language MGMP in the Malang area with the Japanese Language Education Study Program, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this collaboration can only be realised in 2021. The formulation of the problem from this Penmas is 1. How to make teaching materials (in brief) easier for students to understand the material taught in the form of worksheets? 2. How to write assignments and exercises to improve students' understanding of the themes taught in worksheets? The final result of this Penmas is the creation of AKM-based Japanese worksheets. Then these worksheets will be printed to get the ISSN/ISBN to increase the score for the promotion of available positions for teachers, while language education lecturers implement the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely Service.
