Abstract

Community service activities were carried out at MA Al-Asy'ari with the aim of providing material and practical training on literacy development to the teaching staff. The implementation of the socialization activities was based on the challenges faced by some teachers regarding the training material they received in 2021. In general, the teachers' challenges include: 1) difficulty in understanding how to create literacy questions, and 2) confusion in developing literacy question frameworks. Based on these issues, the community service team collaborated with the madrasah to provide socialization on literacy question development, which included: 1) steps for creating literacy questions, and 2) compiling literacy question grids. The solutions to these issues will be explained in detail and implemented in three main stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The community service team identified several findings, including an improvement in theoretical understanding from previous activities toward practical application in developing AKM literacy questions tailored to the subject needs of the participants. During the evaluation phase, it was found that participants had gained a good understanding of literacy question development during the mentoring process for creating AKM question examples.

Abstract

Food security will remain a major problem in most countries in the world along with increasing population, increasing purchasing power and global climate dynamics. One of the efforts to build food security and the family economy can be done by utilizing available resources, including through the use of yards. This service aims to examine strategies, potential, policies and programs, as well as constraints on the use of the yard to support food security and the economy, especially at the household level. Yard land has the potential to provide family food, reduce household expenses for buying food and increase household income. Several obstacles related to socio-cultural and economic problems are still encountered in the yard use program, including not yet cultivating backyard gardens on an incentive basis, still being part-time and not yet market oriented, not yet having special yard cultivation technology available, and inadequate mentoring processes. Therefore careful planning and cross-sectoral support is needed in the utilization of the yard so that it can be more optimal in supporting food security and the family economy.

Abstract

The implementation of this community service is in the form of outreach and MSME management training. This training was attended by 20 MSMEs in Gampong Beuringen, Samudera District, North Aceh Regency. This training aims to provide understanding to MSME actors about the importance of management knowledge in managing their business. The service method is carried out in several stages, namely the planning stage, the implementation stage and the evaluation stage. The results of this dedication, (1) MSME actors in Gampog Beuringen are able to make venture capital assistance proposals to related agencies and understand the procedures for submitting funding to banks, (2) MSME actors, especially in the field of clothing sewing services, already understand the procedures for developing their products so that they are of interest to customers and (3) MSME actors are proficient in utilizing social media to market their products and services and there are 2 MSME that get business name flyers from the service team. With this activity, MSMEs in Beuringan Gampong can improve the quality and quantity of products/services, high customer demand and income as well as expanding marketing access, so as to improve welfare and have an impact on post-Covid 19 economic recovery.

Abstract

The community service activity was aimed at procuring reading books to support literacy activities at Al-Ma’arif Islamic Middle School 02 Singosari. The methods used in this activity were 1) conducting an initial study to determine the problems and needs of the school’s reading books, 2) making program plans, 3) coordinating with the school, 4) having internal coordination with the team, 5) implementing the program, 6) reflecting activity. The result of the community service activities was as follows. The problems found was that the students lack interest in reading. One reason was the lack of variety of reading books in the library. The procurement of books at AlMaarif Islamic Middle School was carried out through raising donations (7%) and purchasing books (93%). The books donated to the school were in various genres, including educational, motivational, historical, fairy tales, novels, short story anthologies, comics on knowledge, and popular comics. The reflection results show that students like the variety of books donated to school, and there was a desire for the school to create a literacy corner and literacy activities in the coming semester.

Abstract

According to seminal hypotheses in Second Language Acquisition (SLA), human learns language better in the early age. The learning was also tremendiously advanced when it is comnbined with technology and use familiar topic with the learners’ surrounding. The aforementioned are beneficial to ultimate English language learning pertinent to young learners. Given that rationale, the present community service aims to conduct a workshop for Junior High School teachers in Malang. The workshop was intended to give training to teachers on how to developed instructional materials amalgamated with techonology. The event was purposefully equipted teachers with technology savvy to design instructional materials development. The workshop activities comprise training presentation from experts, implementation consisting of designing and presenting materials and obtaining feedback, and evaluation. The evalution consisted completing reflective questionnaire and class observation. Based on the evaluation, teachers obtained ideas to digitalize their instructional materials, and based on the observation students were well engaged to the classroom activities. For those reasons, digitalizing instructional materials is beneficial for teaching young learners.

Abstract

This article documents a literacy program carried out in the Kotaanyar Subdistrict, Probolinggo Regency, with the primary goal of stimulating imagination and reading interest among adolescents. The program explores various creative and interactive approaches to enhance literacy within the community. This article provides insights into the stages of program implementation, including planning, execution, and its impact on participants. The literacy program encompasses not only book reading activities but also book discussions, the establishment of reading spaces, and various engaging literacy activities. One of the program's main focuses is intensive mentoring to stimulate adolescents' reading interest and foster their creativity. The article also emphasizes the importance of collaboration with various stakeholders, including participants' families, local schools, and local government, in efforts to create a sustainable literacy culture. The outcomes of this literacy program include increased reading interest among adolescents, the development of creativity, changes in reading culture, and improvements in the quality of education. This article illustrates how a literacy program can be an effective instrument in enhancing literacy and awakening creative potential within the local community. It is hoped that the experiences and lessons learned from this program can inspire and guide similar efforts in other locations.

Abstract

An advanced nation is one whose human resources are of the highest quality. The excellence of human resources can only be achieved through education, which involves educators and students, lecturers and pupils, lecturers and university students. Community service is carried out as a manifestation of expertise contribution, the utilization of educational outcomes, and/or research in the fields of science, technology, and/or art, in efforts to meet demands or initiate improvements in the quality of life of the community. Therefore, this community service aims to enhance the competence of community service proposals at the Islamic Religious Institute (IAI) Al-Qolam, commonly referred to as IAI Al-Qolam. The outcome of this community service is to provide training and mentoring, strengthen research and community service methods in proposal development for young faculty members at IAI Al-Qolam Gondanglegi Malang, so that faculty members can perform their duties more professionally and effectively.

Abstract

Mira Village is one of the villages in Morotai Islands Regency that is rich in culture. To reach Mira Village, one must depart from the university by motorboat for 12 hours to Morotai Island, followed by a 2-hour ride by passenger car. The distance from the university to Mira Village is approximately 235 km. Mira Village also has a tourist attraction worth visiting, namely a waterfall located in a resident's garden, with a distance of approximately 1 km from the village to the waterfall. However, despite this potential, Mira Village still lags behind in the education sector. One of the issues is the inadequate internet access, which causes children to fall behind in their learning. If this situation continues unaddressed, the children's literacy skills will decline. To minimize these problems, at least one corner/library is needed for children to study. Another problem is that some teenagers in Mira village choose to marry young, which reduces their desire to continue their education to a higher level. Therefore, there needs to be a program that can combine education, character, and culture in one place. This program is called PPK Ormawa, with its main activity being the development of a reading corner. The reading corner is equipped with science books and fairy tales, as well as other activities such as storytelling, reading and writing instruction, and cultural literacy. The PPK Ormawa program with its reading corner initiative was implemented in July-August 2022 by nine students from the Mathematics Education Program at Khairun University. Introducing culture and literacy to children at an early age is crucial for enhancing the intellectual and character development of the young generation in Mira Village. Abstract

Teachers are professionals who are not only required to be able to transfer their knowledge and educate students, but they must also be able to develop their professionalism, one of which is by conducting research. But in reality, teachers at SMPN I Buduran Sidoarjo have very little knowledge about research, especially classroom action research (CAR). The method chosen to overcome this problem is through workshops and PTK article mentoring clinics. The reason for choosing this method was to facilitate teachers at SMPN I Buduran Sidoarjo to practice directly in making CAR articles. The PTK article assistance workshop and clinic which was held on March 11 & 25 2023 was able to motivate teachers at SMPN I Buduran Sidoarjo to do CAR and help increase teachers' understanding of CAR implementation. And through the article assistance clinic, as many as 6 teachers have succeeded in publishing their articles in national journals. Abstract

Websites can serve as effective learning media, especially in the Covid-19 era that necessitates distance learning. The potential for developing educational websites is vast, given the increasingly dynamic and mobile society and the diverse educational needs. This learning concept is expected to create an effective and innovative learning atmosphere, motivating both students and teachers. Based on this background, there is a need for activities that contribute to the development of Japanese language learning in Indonesia, particularly for Japanese language teachers in Malang Raya through Malang MGMP. To address this, the Japanese Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya, organized a training themed “Training on Making Mobile Learning Media as a Means of Increasing Skills for Making Japanese Learning Media for MGMP Teachers of Malang Raya.” This training aims to make Japanese language learning more interesting, innovative, and accessible from anywhere.
