Abstract

This study investigated the types of reading strategies applied by 5th semester students of the English Department at Riau University. The background of this study emphasizes how important good reading techniques are for academic achievement as students often do not know how to improve their comprehension. Knowing the types and frequency of reading strategies used by the students was the main objective of this study.  A total of 99 students from three classes were given questionnaires to complete as part of the descriptive-quantitative technique. With a focus on comprehension monitoring and summarizing tactics, the results showed a variety of reading strategies, including cognitive, metacognitive, and social strategies. The results show that skilled readers use a wide variety of useful techniques, which improve reading comprehension and general academic achievement.  This research helps create efficient teaching strategies and provides prospective teachers with the knowledge they need to improve reading comprehension skills. Ultimately, the study underscores the importance of fostering strategic reading among students to support their learning journey.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the absence of interactive flipbook-based teaching materials in elementary schools. This study aims to develop teaching materials in the form of interactive flipbooks on the material of the application of norms in life in grade 5 elementary school. This research is a type of R&D (Research and Development) research. The development model used is the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The research data consists of qualitative data and quantitative data. The results showed that: 1) The results of the validity test by three validators obtained a percentage of 90% from material experts, 97.5% from media experts, and 82.5% from linguists with a very valid category. 2) The results of the practicality test showed an average percentage of teachers of 92.28% with a very practical category, and the and student practicality tests averaged 96.61% with a very practical category. Therefore it can be concluded that the development of interactive flipbook based on the topic of applying norms in life in grade v elementary school is very feasible to use in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the biomechanical aspects of the initial steps in the smash technique in volleyball, focusing on the distance of the steps taken by the player before the take-off phase. The smash technique is one of the main movements in volleyball that requires strength, speed, and good body coordination, including in the initial stages. This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach with an observation method through video recording of two Physical Education students who perform the smash movement. The data were analyzed using Kinovea 2023.1.2 software to measure the distance of the steps from each initial phase to the vertical push-off. The results of the analysis show that the more the number of initial steps taken, the distance of the last step tends to decrease. The shortening of the distance of the last step can be interpreted as a biomechanical strategy of the body to create stability and optimal position before pushing off. This finding is different from several previous studies which stated that the last step tends to be longer due to inertial thrust. Thus, the results of this study provide a new perspective in the study of sports biomechanics, especially in the aspect of footwork towards the smash movement. This study is expected to be the basis for developing a more efficient smash technique analysis training pattern based on purposeful movement.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study and analyze the biomechanics that affect the lower serve technique. This research focuses on the body angle and position of the player's feet when serving down, and the purpose of this research is to gain a better understanding of the parts that affect the performance of the lower serve technique with a better level of precision. The type of research used by researchers is a quantitative method, using a descriptive quantitative approach. The instrument used is a handphone camera, can use a laptop equipped with the Kinovea 2023 version 1 application. 2 to record video. This application will serve to measure the angle of the body and legs when serving down in a volleyball game. object 1 produces a body angle of 112.8 °, as for the distance between the front and back legs 102.66 cm and a foot angle of 57.4 ° at the time of the ball's contact with the hand. object 2 data results produce a body angle of 93.1°, for the distance between the front and back feet produces a smaller distance compared to object 1 with a distance of 90.34 cm. the success of the lower serve that achieves effectiveness and also precision, is that objects with larger body angles and foot distances tend to successfully pass the ball across the net, while objects with smaller angles and foot distances experience failure.

Abstract

Early Childhood Education (ECED) plays a vital role in shaping children's cognitive, social, and motor development. However, implementing innovative learning methods remains a significant challenge. This study analyzes the need for developing interactive infographic media based on the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model on the theme of vehicles for kindergarten B children. The research responds to children's low understanding of the theme, using a quantitative descriptive method with data collected via Guttman scale questionnaires involving 10 students and 2 teachers at Adventure Islamic Kindergarten Palembang. Findings show that the children’s understanding level of the vehicle theme averaged 1.3, indicating a high need for more engaging and communicative media. Teachers also indicated a high level of need, with an average score of 1.5, emphasizing the importance of media aligned with the PjBL approach. The results conclude that developing interactive infographic media has strong potential to enhance children’s conceptual understanding, boost learning motivation, and encourage active participation in thematic project-based learning in a fun and effective manner.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of RealLife English application in improving speaking skills in eleventh grade students at SMK Negeri 4 Pekanbaru. It was found that the problems were limited vocabulary, lack of confidence, and inadequate use of interactive media. This study used a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design where the experimental group used RealLife English application and the control group used conventional methods. The study consisted of 75 students randomly selected from two classes: Accounting 2 Class (experimental) and Batik and Textile Creative Craft 1 Class (control). Quantitative data was collected through pre-test and post-test, by analyzing the improvement of speaking ability. The experimental group showed a significant increase in their mean score from 55.55 to 75.55. In contrast, the average score of the control group increased from 41.53 to 58.05. Statistical analysis confirmed that the improvement in the experimental group was significant p-value = 0.000, thus it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis analysis (Ha) is accepted. These findings indicate that the RealLife English application significantly improved students' speaking ability compared to the conventional method. This research highlights the potential of the application to offer a more engaging and interactive learning experience.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' perceptions of the implementation of interactive read-aloud strategy in learning narrative text. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants were one ninth grade class from a junior high school located in Karawang. Data were obtained through interviews with six students as well as observation during the learning process. The interviews were conducted after the implementation of interactive read-aloud strategy. The results showed that students' perceptions responded positively to the implementation of the interactive read-aloud strategy. There are three main findings related to students' perceptions: first, the Interactive Read-Aloud strategy helps students in understanding narrative text; second, the strategy makes the learning process more fun and interesting; and third, the strategy encourages students' active involvement in learning. Therefore, Interactive Read-Aloud plays an important role in creating an interactive learning environment and motivating students to be more engaged. Thus, this strategy is very useful and suitable to be applied to ninth grade students.

Abstract

This research aims to develop an interactive learning media using Articulate Storyline 3 to facilitate students’ mathematical problem-solving skills in statistics at the high school level. The development process utilized the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The media was designed to guide students through the steps of problem-solving, including understanding the problem, planning the solution, executing the plan, and evaluating the solution.   The developed media was validated by experts and found to be highly valid. A small-scale and large-scale trial was conducted to assess the media's effectiveness. Results from the small-scale trial showed that the media was highly practical for students with varying abilities. The large-scale trial also indicated that the media was practical and effective in facilitating students' mathematical problem-solving skills.   In conclusion, the developed interactive learning media is a valuable tool to enhance students' mathematical problem-solving skills in statistics. It provides a structured and engaging learning experience is proven to be valid and practical that can help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
