Abstract

The village holds a strategic role as the spearhead of national development in realizing community welfare through the independent management of local potential. However, many villages in Indonesia, including Tublopo Village in North Central Timor Regency, still face limitations in the capacity of village apparatus, low community participation, and suboptimal systems for recording village potential. This Community Service Program (PKM) was conducted by the university as an implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education with the aim of strengthening village governance and enhancing community empowerment. The methods employed included socialization, technical assistance, and the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach, which emphasizes active community participation. The results of the program indicate a significant improvement in the apparatus’ understanding of Village Fund governance, increased government transparency, and greater community participation in cleanliness activities and local potential data collection. Another outcome of this activity was the compilation of the 2025 Tublopo Village Potential Profile based on accurate data, which serves as a foundation for evidence-based development planning. This program demonstrates the strategic role of higher education institutions in supporting transparent, participatory, and accountable village governance, as well as in fostering an independent and empowered community.

Abstract

Aquaponics is an agricultural system that combines fish farming (aquaculture) with soilless plant cultivation (hydroponics), which mutually support each other and provide dual benefits. When compared to conventional agricultural cultivation, aquaponics offers advantages in terms of efficient water use, minimal use of chemical fertilizers, and high yield productivity. The purpose of this community service is to provide training and mentoring in aquaponic cultivation systems to the Ani'fu farmer group in Fatuneno Village. The activity methods include site observation, preparation (aquaponic tools and materials), training, mentoring, and evaluation. The results obtained after the activity are that partners become aware of aquaponic technology, meet community needs, and provide economic impacts (savings on food expenditure or additional income from harvests). The application of aquaponic cultivation provides tangible results in increasing the knowledge and skills of partners, thereby greatly supporting food independence and enabling the development of new businesses for the local community.

Abstract

Water quality is one of the key aspects of both individual and communal clean water supply systems and plays an important role in public health. Kapuhan Hamlet faces challenges related to the quantity, quality, accessibility, and continuity of its clean water supply system. Although efforts have been made to improve the system in order to address issues of quantity, accessibility, and continuity, the potential for contamination remains a concern. This community service project aims to analyze the quality of spring water in Kapuhan Hamlet and identify potential improvement measures. The methods used included laboratory testing of water samples for physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters. The microbiological test results showed that the water samples contained Escherichia coli and total coliform levels exceeding the established quality standards. These findings indicate the need for interventions to improve water quality for the health and safety of users. Based on the analysis results, it can be concluded that although issues related to water quantity, accessibility, and continuity have been addressed, efforts to improve water quality remain essential to ensure the availability of safe and healthy drinking water for the community.

Abstract

Gunungkidul Regency is part of a national strategic project aimed at strengthening connectivity across the southern coastal region of Java. The project is implemented by the Public Works Agency of Gunungkidul Regency in collaboration with private-sector teams and supported by academic experts from Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University. This infrastructure development directly affects residential areas along the planned road corridor. This community service initiative aims to map and document houses affected by the South Java Coastal Route (JJLS) construction as a basis for settlement planning by utilizing Google Earth satellite imagery as a simple mapping tool. The target of this data collection includes residents living along the JJLS alignment across four subdistricts: Girisubo, Tepus, Jerukwudel, and Rongkop. The methods include visual identification of affected houses using Google Earth imagery, measurement of distances from the JJLS corridor, field verification with local communities, and development of a database and distribution maps. The outputs include KMZ files containing coordinate points and house attributes, village-level distribution maps, and a spatial database for relocation planning and settlement arrangement. This initiative shows that Google Earth–based technology can be an effective and economical alternative for participatory spatial data collection in rural areas affected by infrastructure projects.

Abstract

African Swine Fever (ASF) is a highly contagious and fatal viral disease affecting pigs, and it has become a serious threat in East Nusa Tenggara Province, particularly in Timor Tengah Utara (TTU) Regency. The outbreak has resulted in high mortality rates among pigs and has directly affected the livelihoods of traditional farmers. Tubuhue Village in Kota Kefamenanu District is among the areas with the highest mortality rates due to ASF, a situation exacerbated by the high mobility of livestock and the region’s proximity to the Timor-Leste border. The main problems faced by the community include limited knowledge of ASF prevention and control, as well as the minimal implementation of biosecurity measures. The absence of easy-to-understand educational media and clear risk mapping further hinders effective mitigation efforts. These conditions threaten the sustainability of pig farming, which serves as the primary source of income for the local community. This community service program proposes solutions through risk mapping of ASF transmission and the development of an educational minibook containing practical guidelines for disease prevention and control. Continuous training and extension activities will also be conducted to enhance the community’s capacity to apply biosecurity measures consistently. This approach is expected to strengthen farmers’ preparedness and reduce the negative impacts of ASF on livestock populations and the local economy.

Abstract

The Baciro area has residents who are housewives and socially active. However, access to information and healthy living practices is still limited. In addition, the development of economic skills and family health practices has not been specifically directed. This community service program aims toa empower the housewives of the Paroki Gereja Kristus Raja Baciro, Yogyakarta, through training in food and cosmetic innovations using natural ingredients. The activities focus on improving nutrition literacy, developing skills in producing dried noodles made from freshwater fish, creating rose-based facial masks, and strengthening household entrepreneurship capacity. The implementation methods include outreach, training, technology application, assistance, and evaluation. The results of the program show a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, the creation of prototypes of healthy noodle products and natural facial masks, and the development of a social media account and marketing attributes such as product posters and stickers as promotional tools. Evaluation was carried out at each stage and overall, with a sustainability plan through post-program monitoring. This program contributes to improving skills, as evidenced by the increased number of business groups related to the products introduced.

Abstract

The dynamic development of socio-economic conditions, accompanied by increasing household needs and income uncertainty, requires communities to possess sound and sustainable financial management capabilities. Women, particularly housewives and micro-enterprise actors, play a strategic role in managing household and business finances. However, limited understanding of financial planning, investment, and insurance remains a major challenge that may increase vulnerability to financial risks. One strategic measure to strengthen household economic resilience is the enhancement of financial literacy through targeted and contextual education, especially regarding the introduction of investment and insurance as instruments for financial planning and risk protection. This community service program aims to improve women’s financial literacy through educational activities focusing on the basic principles of investment and insurance, as well as their application in the context of entrepreneurship and household financial management. The target participants are members of the PKK Women’s Group in Sidawung Hamlet, Kali Gading Village, Boja Subdistrict, Kendal Regency. The implementation methods include interactive lectures, simple demonstrations, discussions based on local case studies, and evaluation through pre–post tests. Indicators of program success include improvements in participants’ financial literacy scores, enhanced understanding of investment and insurance concepts, and increased motivation to adopt regular saving habits, maintain business financial records, and consider appropriate simple investment instruments and insurance products. The expected outcomes of this program are improved basic financial literacy knowledge and skills, as well as the development of follow-up action plans by the PKK group related to financial management and risk protection for family-based enterprises.
