Abstract

Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) sektor pangan olahan memiliki peran penting dalam perekonomian nasional, namun masih menghadapi tantangan dalam penerapan sertifikasi halal. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memperkuat daya saing industri kerupuk singkong melalui program pendampingan legalitas usaha dan sertifikasi halal. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi observasi, sosialisasi regulasi halal, serta pendampingan teknis pengurusan Nomor Induk Berusaha (NIB) melalui sistem OSS dan pengajuan sertifikasi halal melalui platform SiHalal. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman mitra terhadap regulasi halal serta keberhasilan penerbitan NIB dan Sertifikat Halal. Capaian ini menegaskan bahwa pendampingan yang terstruktur mampu membantu UMKM memenuhi kewajiban regulasi sekaligus meningkatkan kepercayaan konsumen dan daya saing produk. Dengan demikian, program pendampingan sertifikasi halal menjadi strategi yang efektif dalam mendukung penguatan dan keberlanjutan UMKM pangan.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to address the issue of low competitiveness in agricultural products by providing packaging and product photo catalogs to the farmer business group in Tamanmartani Village, Kalasan, Sleman. The problem faced by the farmer business group is related to the need for better product packaging and photo catalogs. The herbal agricultural products produced by this farmer business group have great economic potential; however, promotion is still limited, thus hampering wider marketing. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase the competitiveness of superior village agricultural products by improving packaging design and creating a photo catalog of ten agricultural products. The method applied is community development by providing support to the farmers’ business community through training and mentoring. The results of the activity showed improvement in the quality of visual identity, packaging, and product appearance, making the products more professional and marketable. The product photo catalog serves as a documentation and promotional tool to support digital marketing and strengthen the sustainable village economy.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance elementary school students’ understanding of bridge structural concepts and simple electrical circuits through individual project-based STEM learning. The activity was conducted with Grade 3–4 students in the Cibogo area, utilizing simple materials such as popsicle sticks, LEDs, wires, batteries, and switches as learning media. The methodology integrated community-based research, participatory learning, and action research approaches, in which the activities were designed based on the needs of the target community, actively engaged students in the learning process, and incorporated reflective practices for continuous improvement. Evaluation was carried out using a questionnaire to assess students’ understanding of bridge structures, simple electrical circuits, and their responses to the activity. The evaluation results indicated that most students were able to comprehend the fundamental concepts introduced and showed positive responses to the project-based learning activities (85% for bridge construction and 78% for electrical circuits). In addition to improved conceptual understanding, students demonstrated high levels of interest and enthusiasm throughout the activity. It can be concluded that this activity was effective in providing meaningful and contextual learning experiences. Future implementations may be further developed by strengthening introductory materials and diversifying project models to enhance the quality and sustainability of STEM learning in elementary school environments.

Abstract

Bima Regency is an area with significant earthquake risk, making the application of earthquake – resistant construction principles in educational facilities essential. However, the understanding of construction workers and the local community regarding technical standards for earthquake – resistant buildings is still limited. This community service activity aimed to improve knowledge and implementation of simple earthquake – resistant construction principles in school facility development at SD Negeri 7 Sape, Bima Regency. The methods included socialization activities on the technical requirements of earthquake – resistant buildings followed by direct supervision and assistance during construction work. The materials delivered covered building material quality, structural dimensions and elements, structural connections, and construction workmanship quality. The results showed an improvement in workers and community members understanding of earthquake – resistant construction principles and better application of structural details, such as proper stirrup spacing, adequate concrete cover, and the use of 135˚ stirrup hooks. The activity also increased awareness regarding the importance of material quality and accuracy in construction work. Therefore, this community service program contributes positively to improving the quality of simple earthquake – resistant buildings and supports disaster risk education efforts in educational facilities.

Abstract

Violence in higher education environments has become an increasingly prominent issue, alongside the rising number of reported cases of physical, psychological, and sexual violence in educational settings. This community service project was conducted to map vulnerable and safe spaces at Campus II of Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY) as a preventive approach grounded in spatial design. The activities included physical mapping of the campus area, field observations, discussions with key stakeholders, and validation of users’ perceptions through questionnaires distributed to members of the academic community. The results indicate that vulnerable spaces are generally associated with areas characterised by limited surveillance, insufficient lighting, and a lack of positive social activities, such as poorly lit corridors, service areas and toilets, transitional spaces between buildings, and basement areas. In contrast, safe spaces are defined by visual openness, positive activities, and a strong sense of user ownership. This project produced maps of vulnerable and safe spaces, as well as design guidelines for safe spaces, based on the principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), contextualised for the Indonesian campus environment. The novelty of this community service lies in integrating spatial mapping, user perception analysis, and practical design recommendations as policy inputs for violence prevention in higher education institutions.

Abstract

Children of kindergarten and primary school age are often referred to as digital natives are often referred to as ‘digital natives’, as they are well-acquainted with the world of technology. Technological advancements bring both positive and negative impacts. The negative effects on children are a particular concern for teachers as educators in schools. In this digital age, children need guidance to enhance their moral values, character development, ethics, and emotional well-being. Educators are at the forefront of helping children develop good character in this society 5.0 era. This community service initiative aims to enhance the digital literacy of educators, particularly teachers at Kanisius Sengkan Kindergarten and Primary School, regarding children’s digital safety. This initiative is a new and first-of-its-kind activity for educators in that school. The evaluation results indicate that this initiative is highly significant for educators as it broadens their horizons.

Abstract

This article presents a report on a community service program in the form of a Public Speaking workshop “Dare to Speak and Good at Listening” for students in grades 1, 2, and 3 of Bandung Baptist Elementary School. This program was designed in response to the results of a Focus Group Discussion with parents and teachers that identified gaps in children’s communication skills, particularly speaking courage and listening skills. The method used was an experiential learning approach through a one-day interactive workshop on October 10, 2025, involving 47 students. Effectiveness was measured by pre-test and post-test observation sheets on 5 selected students and verbatim documentation of all activities that included eight stages, from ice breaking to reflection. The analysis results showed an increase in observation scores from 82 to 94 (+12 points). The most significant improvements were recorded in the aspects of public speaking courage and active listening skills, while technical aspects such as eye contact and voice clarity still require ongoing practice. Qualitative data confirmed the transformation of student behavior through more active participation and the application of communication ethics. This program has proven effective as an early intervention that bridges children’s communication gaps. Recommendations include the integration of experiential learning into the curriculum of subsequent workshops, as well as active parental involvement for sustainability.

Abstract

Accessible and usable toilets are essential components of an inclusive built environment for persons with disabilities, particularly in community-based health facilities. This article presents a community service program that assisted the design and renovation of toilets at Rumah Kebugaran Difabel (RKD) in Sedayu, Bantul, within the Keluarga Difabel Pinilih ecosystem. RKD provides affordable, accessible, community-based health services for persons with disabilities, but its facility—a former auxiliary public health center—contained three underutilized toilets that no longer met accessibility requirements. The program adopted a participatory assistance approach informed by participatory action research, inclusive design, and user-centered design. Activities included needs identification, existing-condition audits, user-needs mapping, design development, user testing, and refinement of renovation recommendations. The resulting design addressed the needs of wheelchair users, crutch users, persons with visual, hearing, and physical impairments by integrating accessibility and usability principles. Two toilets were designated for general users, while one was redesigned as an accessible toilet, accompanied by a more user-friendly ablution facility. Direct involvement of persons with disabilities in the audit and testing stages improved design accuracy and strengthened the potential to create safe, dignified, and independent sanitation facilities. The program demonstrates that successful toilet renovation in existing buildings requires collaboration among architectural standards, structural constraints, and users’ lived experiences.
