Abstract

This study addresses the growing issue of excessive gadget use by framing behavior modification within the principles of Islamic child-rearing (Tarbiyah al-Awlad). The primary aim was to reduce gadget dependency and screaming behavior in a preschooler by applying an intervention model that is spiritually meaningful for Muslim families. This research employed a single-subject (AB design) experimental approach with a 4-year-old male participant. The intervention was adapted to align with Islamic values: the token economy was transformed into a "Good Deed Star" (Bintang Kebaikan) system to reinforce patience (sabr), and time-out was reframed as a "Reflection Time" (Waktu Muhasabah) to encourage self-control. Data, collected via parental observation logs, showed a significant reduction in daily gadget use from an average of 108.6 minutes during baseline to 47.8 minutes during intervention. The conclusion is that integrating behavioral techniques within an Islamic Tarbiyah framework is highly effective. This study implies that such a model not only modifies behavior but also provides parents with a practical, faith-aligned tool for cultivating positive character (akhlak) in the digital age.

Abstract

Terrorist radicalization has become a tangible threat to global security, including in Indonesia, as many individuals remain exposed to radical ideologies and join terrorist groups. This study aims to understand the driving factors behind individuals' decisions to enter and the causes of their attachment to terrorist groups, using the case study of SMA (a former member of JAD). This research employs a qualitative method through direct interviews with SMA. The findings indicate that terrorism radicalization is a gradual process of transformation involving changes in worldview, identity shifts, and strengthened loyalty to the group, culminating in an individual's readiness to carry out acts of terror. In the case of SMA, social injustice and relative deprivation, particularly towards state institutions, served as driving factors for joining a terrorist group. The study also finds that individual attachment to terrorist groups may be influenced by psychological, social, and emotional aspects, wherein the terrorist group can serve as an ideological “home” for its members, and the “Ustad” within the group may function as an ideological “father.” Therefore, deradicalization programs should not only focus on ideology or the fulfillment of economic needs but also consider psychological and social aspects. This is because the driving factors and stages of radicalization for each terrorist group member are unique, thus requiring differentiated handling approaches.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the curriculum of the Arabic Language Education Study Program at IAIN Pontianak, focusing on the aspects of relevance, objectives, and implementation. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with document analysis methods. Data is obtained from curriculum documents and the vision-mission of the study program, as well as analysis of student theses, to assess the alignment between academic policy directions and research practices. The analysis results show that the curriculum of the Arabic Language Education Study Program at IAIN Pontianak integrates the study of Arabic language education, religious values, and elements of Borneo culture, which are formulated in the vision, mission, objectives, course structure, and academic programs such as drama-based muhadatsah. This integration has become a characteristic that distinguishes this study program from other Arabic language education programs in Indonesia. However, weaknesses are still found in the selection of thesis topics by students, which generally focus on pedagogical issues and have not widely examined the cultural dimensions of Borneo. The limitation of this research lies in its scope, which is only based on document analysis without supporting field data. Further research is recommended to study the implementation of the curriculum through field studies in analyzing the curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the contribution of the Tahfidz Al-Qur'an program in fostering the emotional intelligence of students (santri) at Pondok Pesantren Kyai Sekar Al-Amri, Probolinggo Regency. In the context of contemporary Islamic education, emotional intelligence is a crucial aspect in shaping the character of youth who are spiritually resilient, emotionally stable, and adaptive to the challenges of globalization and the pressures of the digital era. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method, this research illustrates how values such as patience, discipline, sincerity, and empathy are systematically internalized through structured routines, musyrif mentorship, and daily spiritual practices. The findings indicate that tahfidz is not merely a memorization activity but serves as an integral medium of character education based on Qur'anic values, effectively enhancing emotional regulation, mental resilience, and positive habits among students. This study recommends the integration of emotional aspects into the tahfidz curriculum, along with strengthening the capacity of musyrif as spiritual and emotional role models in pesantren education.

Abstract

This article examines the interconnection between ethics and religion and their contribution to social harmony. In the modern era, both Muslim and Western scholars recognize that humanity is facing a major moral crisis, in which scientific and technological progress has the potential to erode the essence of humanity. This study aims to analyze the concepts of ethics and religion, as well as their roles in building social harmony. This study offers a multidisciplinary and integrative approach to highlight how ethics and religion synergize in shaping the moral foundation of society. This study uses a descriptive and qualitative approach through a literature review, analyzing the concepts of ethics and religion and their contributions to social harmony. The findings reveal a strong connection between ethics and religion; both evaluate the goodness or badness of human actions. Ethics, rooted in common sense and conscience, serves as a rational guide, while religion, derived from divine revelation, provides a spiritual foundation that gives meaning and direction to life. Both function as individual rules and systems to maintain social balance, justice, and human dignity. Their collaboration fosters civilized individuals and forms the basis for sustainable civilization development.

Abstract

Hadith is a source of Islamic teachings that has a great influence in shaping the social ethics of Muslims, including in establishing relations with followers of other religions. However, a number of textually contradictory hadiths have been found between the call for tolerance and the order of war against non-Muslims. This study aims to analyze and reconcile the meaning of these traditions through a qualitative approach based on a literature study, using a descriptive-analytical method. The approach of mukhtalif al-ḥadīs and supported by the framework of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah to interpret the purpose of Islamic law as a whole. The results show that the traditions on tolerance apply in peaceful situations and contain the principle of protection of human life, religion, and honor. In contrast, the war traditions are understood contextually as responses to real threats or violations of peace treaties, not as instruments of theological aggression. Thus, the study asserts that reconciliation of the hadith is only possible through a historical, contextual and teleological approach that does not separate the text from the overall purpose of the Shari'ah. The implication of this study is the importance of understanding the hadith as a whole so that it is not used to justify violence in the name of religion.

Abstract

Religious moderation is a movement that embodies important commitments to maintaining harmonious interfaith relations. The implementation of moderate Islam refers to applying Islam in a balanced manner, neither extreme nor liberal. This study aims to explore religious life, particularly among the congregation of Surau Syaichona Moh Cholil in Malaysia, and how they implement moderate Islam. Most of the congregation members are Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) who have lived in Malaysia for a long time and established the surau as a center for religious activities. This study is descriptive qualitative research that describes the conditions at the location according to the reality on the ground. The study found that the congregation of Syaichona Moh. Cholil Mosque has implemented moderate Islam, as evidenced by four indicators of religious moderation: first, national commitment. The congregation still has a strong sense of patriotism despite having lived in Malaysia for a long time, as evidenced by their continued celebration of Indonesian Independence Day and their love for Indonesian domestic products. Second is tolerance, as the congregation members respect others of different ethnicities and religions. Third, anti-violence, which is reflected in their attitudes and teaching methods that prioritize wisdom and avoid violent behavior, whether verbal or physical. Fourth, adaptability to local culture: the congregation continues to observe Islamic holidays such as Maulid Nabi and participates in local traditions such as distributing food according to local customs.
