Abstract

Human beings hold a distinguished position in Islam, as explained in the Qur’an. As creatures created by Allah, humans are endowed with intellect, spirit, and the freedom to conduct their lives, thereby bearing moral and spiritual responsibilities. The Qur’an employs various terms to describe human beings such as basyar, insan, bani Adam, and ‘abd each of which highlights different biological, psychological, and theological dimensions. Moreover, Islam assigns humans two primary roles: as khalifah (khalifatullah fi al-ard), responsible for managing the earth with justice, and as servants of Allah (‘abdullah), who are obliged to submit to and obey His commands. This study adopts a library research method by examining and analyzing various sources of literature, including Qur’anic exegeses, books, and scholarly journals that discuss the concept of humanity in Islam. The findings reveal that, according to the Qur’an, humans are not merely biological beings but entities endowed with moral, intellectual, and spiritual responsibilities. By understanding the Qur’anic concept of humanity, one may attain deeper insights into the essence of human existence, as well as the roles and responsibilities humans must uphold in both worldly life and the hereafter

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) instruction on the topic of Asmaul Husna, specifically Al-Malik, Al-Quddus, and Al-‘Aziz—in Grade IV of SDN Pandan Sari. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through classroom observations, interviews with PAI teachers and the school principal, as well as documentation of learning activities. The findings indicate that the application of PBL enhances students’ activeness, curiosity, and critical thinking skills in understanding the meanings and values of Asmaul Husna. Through problem identification, group discussion, problem-solving, and reflective activities, students are guided to internalize divine values contextually. The value of Al-Malik fosters responsibility and self-leadership, Al-Quddus strengthens awareness of physical and spiritual cleanliness, while Al-‘Aziz develops firmness and self-confidence. The school principal supports the implementation of PBL as it aligns with the school’s vision of strengthening religious character education. Therefore, PBL is proven to be an effective instructional strategy for instilling the values of Asmaul Husna in a meaningful and applicable manner in students’ daily lives.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how knowledge is constructed within the dynamics of power relations at Subulus Salam Islamic Boarding School. Using a qualitative method with a case study design, this research explores the interaction between formal and cultural authority structures and their influence on teaching practices and epistemological processes. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation analysis, and were analyzed using an interactive model. The findings reveal that power relations in the pesantren are predominantly shaped by the central role of the kiai, whose authority determines educational policies, the selection of legitimate knowledge, and the direction of students’ intellectual development. This authoritative structure creates a learning environment in which students tend to adopt a passive stance and have limited opportunities for critical engagement. However, the study also identifies emerging initiatives within the institution to encourage intellectual participation, promote dialogical learning, and strengthen students’ critical thinking skills. These efforts indicate a shift toward more transformative and participatory educational practices. Overall, this research demonstrates that balancing traditional authority with inclusive learning strategies is essential for enhancing the quality of Islamic education in pesantren while maintaining their cultural identity.

Abstract

This article discusses the acculturation of Islam in the Tampung Tawar tradition and the educational values embedded within it among the Dayak Ngaju Muslim community in Parenggean Village, Kotawaringin Timur Regency, Central Kalimantan. The Tampung Tawar ritual serves as a traditional ceremony that symbolizes purification, protection, the invocation of safety, and the expression of gratitude. As Islam gradually spread among the Dayak people, this ritual experienced a transformation in its values and meanings. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through direct observation, interviews, and document analysis. The findings show that Islamic elements such as the recitation of Qur’anic verses, Arabic prayers, and the emphasis on purity and charity have been integrated into the performance of Tampung Tawar. The Islamic educational values contained in the ritual include religiosity, deliberation, cleanliness, and gratitude. This tradition functions as a medium for transmitting Islamic values and teachings to younger generations while at the same time preserving local cultural heritage. The study concludes that Islamic education can coexist harmoniously with local wisdom without losing the essence of its teachings.

Abstract

This article discusses human development in the prenatal period and the meaning of birth as an integral part of the process of human formation from the early stages of life through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates Islamic perspectives, modern medicine, and developmental psychology. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature study method sourced from the Qur'an, Hadith, classical and contemporary interpretations, as well as various relevant scientific publications. The results of the study show that in the Islamic view, human development has begun from the early stages of fetal formation and includes the spiritual, moral, and parental responsibilities dimensions. Meanwhile, findings in the field of medicine and developmental psychology confirm that biological factors, emotional conditions, and the mother's environment during pregnancy have a significant effect on the physical, neurological, and emotional development of children. Birth is understood not only as a biological event, but as an important transitional phase that continues the process of human development that has been going on since the prenatal period. The integration of these three perspectives confirms that human development needs to be understood comprehensively as a continuous process that involves biological, psychological, and spiritual aspects from the beginning of life.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relevance of the concepts of faqir and miskin (the poor and the needy) from the perspective of the Qur’an and its exegesis (tafsir) to the targeting mechanism of Indonesia's Program Keluarga Harapan (PKH) or Family Hope Program. Employing a qualitative approach with library research and document analysis methods, this research conducts an in-depth examination of the interpretations of QS. At-Taubah verse 60 and QS. Al-Baqarah verse 273 concerning faqir and miskin, as found in the classical commentaries (tafsir) of Al-Misbah by Quraish Shihab and Al-Maraghi by Ahmad Mustafa al-Maraghi. The findings reveal a significant gap between the Islamic conceptualization of poverty and the implementation of PKH’s targeting criteria. The Islamic concept emphasizes a holistic approach encompassing both material and spiritual dimensions, while PKH tends to focus predominantly on material-economic aspects. Notably, PKH’s current mechanism overlooks the core Islamic value of ta’affuf (self-respect and refraining from begging) as articulated in QS. Al-Baqarah: 273. Consequently, the study recommends integrating these spiritual values into the PKH targeting system. Key recommendations include operationalizing the principle of ta’affuf and implementing a graded assistance system based on levels of vulnerability, as implied by the differentiation between faqir and miskin in QS. At-Taubah: 60.

Abstract

This study discusses how parental intervention affects children's household conditions and contributes to the occurrence of divorce in the Purworejo Religious Court. The main question in this study is the forms of intervention that emerge and their impact on marital stability. This research was conducted in the study of the sociology of law and family dynamics, emphasizing the role of intergenerational relationships. The method used is qualitatively descriptive, through interviews with judges and analysis of case documents. This study identified the patterns of intervention that occurred. The results show that parental intervention can be divided into two types: constructive, which helps to defuse conflict, and destructive, which exacerbates the problem. Destructive forms of intervention, such as bias, pressure, or excessive control, have been shown to be more dominant in having a direct impact on the collapse of the marital relationship. These findings provide an explanation of the limitations of the role of parents in the child's household as well as the importance of family education and mediation strategies to reduce intergenerational conflicts.

Abstract

This study is motivated by an academic concern regarding the inconsistent understanding and implementation of Islamic character values in public schools, including SMPN 18 Kota Jambi, despite the national curriculum’s strong emphasis on character education. The research aims to describe how Islamic character values are integrated into the learning process and to analyze the strategies, strengths, and challenges encountered by teachers during implementation. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving principals, teachers, and students through observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that Islamic values are integrated through teacher role modeling, reinforcement of religious routines, contextualization of learning materials, and habituation of positive behaviors within classroom interactions. These efforts are supported by the school’s commitment and teacher enthusiasm, yet challenges persist, particularly regarding limited facilities, diverse student characteristics, and the need for continuous professional development. The results imply that strengthening school culture, enhancing teacher pedagogical competence, and maintaining consistent character programs are essential to ensure sustainable and meaningful implementation of Islamic character education.

Abstract

The study of language has become a significant concern among academics, as language functions not only as a means of communication but also as a form of local wisdom that must be preserved to prevent extinction in the face of changing times. In this context, Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) play a strategic role as institutions that maintain and preserve the Madurese language through educational traditions and exemplary practices. The roles of kiai and nyai, particularly Madurese nyai, are central to shaping students’ character through the use of refined Madurese language (bhasa alos). This study aims to describe the role of pesantren and the figure of nyai in preserving local linguistic wisdom. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of learning practices and daily interactions within the pesantren. The findings reveal that (1) the Madurese language possesses an elegant and rich literary structure; (2) Madurese nyai play a crucial role in instilling the use of refined Madurese (engghi-bhunten) among students and the surrounding community; and (3) the tradition of studying classical Islamic texts in pesantren consistently utilizes Madurese translations as a form of local wisdom preservation

Abstract

Environmental damage does not only originate from industrial technical factors, but also from human mindsets and value orientations. Ecotheology is a concept that discusses the interrelationship between theological-philosophical views in religious teachings with nature, especially the environment. The purpose of this study is to analyze the ecotheological values in the Qur'an and Hadith in project-based Islamic Religious Education. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction techniques, data presentation, and conclusion drawing using the Miles & Huberman model. The research participants were 58 students enrolled in an Islamic Religious Education learning project on ecotheology. The results of this study indicate that the integration of ecotheological values in project-based learning is able to foster students' ecological awareness in three main dimensions: (1) theological-emotional understanding of the human mandate as guardians of the earth, (2) ecological attitudes reflected in increased concern and sensitivity to environmental issues, and (3) ecological praxis in the form of active student involvement in environmental conservation actions. Project-based Islamic Education creates reflective, applicable, and meaningful learning experiences by connecting sacred texts to ecological realities.
