Abstract

Early childhood children who are in the 4-5 year range in various developed countries have been introduced to programming concepts, and have even been integrated into the learning curriculum at school. In general, someone's skills in creating programs cannot be immediately acquired or mastered in a short time. In Indonesia, awareness of the importance of developing thinking patterns through computational thinking is still low, especially in areas far from urban areas. Therefore, community service activities are carried out at SDN Cadaskertajaya II, Karawang Regency. The platform used in this activity is MIT App Inventor which is a web-based platform for creating visual block-based device applications. The method used in this activity consists of 2 main stages, namely preparation and implementation. During the training activities, students were very enthusiastic about the material presented. Then, based on the results of the post-test and discussion at the end of the activity, overall this training activity was effective, easy to understand, memorable, useful, as well as interesting and enjoyable.

Abstract

This workshop aims to provide training to English Language Education Study Program students and teachers at SD 205/IV Jambi City. The author presents the PBL-CG (Problem-Based Learning with Communicative Games) model for workshop activities. This model is an improved version of the previous PBL model for teaching English at elementary schools. The workshop method includes three steps: identifying partner priority problems, justifying the priority problems, and defining work procedures. The work procedure involves preparation, implementation, and reporting stages. The two-day workshop was held at SD N 205/IV Jambi City, and the English teachers were enthusiastic and participated actively. The participants well-absorbed the training material, as evidenced by the higher average score in the posttest evaluation. The workshop successfully equipped participants to prepare lesson plans based on the 2013 curriculum using the PBL-CG model in the English language learning process at school, along with the assessment rubric.

Abstract

Based on the initial study of primary school educators in the City of Bandar Lampung, it was found that in designing learning processes, educators have not yet applied systematic thinking principles. Most educators tend to imitate or create their own lesson plans without relying on valid research. Therefore, training on lesson design is highly necessary. This community service programme aims to address the issue of low professional and pedagogical competence among primary school teachers, particularly in designing lesson plans. The implementation of the service comprises several stages: (1) drafting the training design and instruments, (2) expert validation through an FGD for the training design and instruments, (3) carrying out stage I, which includes a pre-test followed by training, (4) conducting stage II, which involves testing the learning tools developed by the teachers, and (5) a post-test to assess the participants' final competence. The methods used include expository teaching, question and answer sessions, group work, and presentations. The sample of primary school teachers was selected randomly using area random sampling techniques, utilising instruments such as observation, tests, and structured interviews. The training results indicated a significant improvement, with pre-test scores of 25% rising to 75% in the post-test, reflecting a 50% increase.
