Abstract

Anemia and malnutrition are common complications in hemodialysis patients that can impact prognosis and quality of life. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between hemoglobin levels and nutritional status in regular hemodialysis patients at Sleman Regional General Hospital. This observational study used a cross-sectional design and was conducted in July 2024 using the total sampling method. The study subjects consisted of 117 regular hemodialysis patients who met the inclusion criteria: aged ≥18 years and undergoing routine hemodialysis at least twice a week. Data collection included demographic characteristics, hemoglobin levels from laboratory results, and anthropometric measurements to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI). Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. The results showed that the average hemoglobin level of patients was 8.80 g/dL (SD ± 1.79), with 28.21% falling into the sufficient category (8.10–9.00 g/dL). Nutritional status assessment revealed diverse conditions among patients, with 52.14% having normal nutritional status based on BMI calculations (mean 24.31 ± 4.26 kg/m²), while 12.82% were underweight, and 35.04% were classified as overweight/obese. Statistical analysis indicated no significant relationship between hemoglobin levels and nutritional status (p = 0.997, r = -0.052), suggesting that these parameters are independently influenced by different factors. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive and individualized approach in managing hemodialysis patients, particularly focusing on anemia treatment through ESA administration and iron supplementation. Additionally, regular monitoring of nutritional status using more accurate methods such as Bioimpedance Spectroscopy (BIS) is recommended to ensure optimal patient care and improved outcomes.

Abstract

Hypertension is a global health issue that contributes to increased morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases. The pre-elderly population requires special attention as they undergo a transitional phase toward old age, during which physiological changes increase the risk of hypertension. This study aims to identify risk factors for hypertension among pre-elderly individuals in the working area of UPTD Puskesmas Lolomatua, South Nias Regency. The study employs an analytical observational method with a case-control design, analyzing data using the Chi-Square test, Odds Ratio (OR), and 95% Confidence Intervals (CI). The study sample consists of 86 pre-elderly respondents, including 43 cases (hypertension) and 43 controls (non-hypertension). The results indicate a significant association between sodium intake and hypertension (p = 0.005; OR = 3.894), sleep quality (p = 0.000; OR = 4.350), and physical activity (p = 0.001; OR = 4.350). However, smoking habits were not associated with hypertension (p = 0.514; OR = 9.431). Pre-elderly individuals with excessive sodium intake, poor sleep quality, and low physical activity have a fourfold increased risk of developing hypertension. In contrast, smoking habits did not show a significant risk for hypertension. Therefore, regular health check-ups are recommended for pre-elderly individuals to maintain stable blood pressure.

Abstract

Snacks for school-age children are important for meeting daily nutritional needs, but both excess and deficiency of nutrients can affect children's growth and development. This study aims to develop a healthy snack based on Binto' Toeng flour (Barbinto) and to test its acceptability and nutritional content. The research was conducted using an experimental design with a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) from April to June 2024, involving the preparation of gude bean flour, the production of Barbinto, organoleptic testing, and nutritional analysis. The organoleptic test showed that the control formulation had the highest preference score from both trained panelists and consumer panelists, with mean values of 5.23 and 5.80, respectively. Among the three experimental formulations, the one with 10% gude bean flour had the highest mean score of 5.2 and 5.05. Nutritional analysis indicated an increase in protein, fiber, ash, Vitamin A, and iron content, although there were decreases in carbohydrate, fat, water, Vitamin C, and zinc levels. Barbinto is expected to become a healthy snack option for schoolchildren, but innovations are needed to reduce the off-flavor in the product.

Abstract

Anemia in women of reproductive age (WRA) is a global health issue closely related to nutritional status. Upper Arm Circumference (UAC) and Body Mass Index (BMI) are common indicators used to assess an individual's nutritional status. The risk of anemia in WRA can impact reproductive health, increasing the risk of infertility, pregnancy complications, fetal growth retardation, and the birth of low birth weight (LBW) babies. This study aims to analyze the relationship between UAC and BMI with the risk of anemia in WRA. A descriptive analytical method with a quantitative approach using a cross-sectional study design was employed. The sample consisted of 88 WRA selected through purposive sampling. UAC was measured using a UAC tape, BMI was calculated from anthropometric measurements, and hemoglobin levels were measured using Easy Touch Hb. Data were analyzed using the chi-square statistical test to examine the relationships between variables. The results showed that 2.3% of WRA had anemia, 11.4% had chronic energy deficiency (CED), 17% had undernutrition, and 14.8% had overnutrition. Bivariate analysis showed no significant relationship between UAC and BMI with the risk of anemia in WRA in the working area of the Tanjung Batu Health Center, Ogan Ilir District. Nevertheless, monitoring nutritional status through UAC and BMI can be an important strategy in preventing anemia in WRA, particularly in pregnancy preparation. Therefore, nutrition education programs and iron supplementation should be intensified.

Abstract

Adolescent obesity is increasing in Indonesia due to lifestyle changes, low physical activity, and high consumption of fast food influenced by social media promotions. This study aims to analyze the relationship between fast food consumption habits and physical activity with obesity among adolescents at SMA Negeri 5 Makassar. This study employs a cross-sectional design with a descriptive-analytical method. The sample consists of 87 students selected through proportional random sampling. Data were obtained through anthropometric measurements and questionnaires on fast food consumption and physical activity, then analyzed using bivariate statistical tests with SPSS version 12 at a 95% confidence level (α=0.05). The results showed that out of 87 respondents, 12 students (13.8%) were obese, while 75 students (86.2%) were not obese. Most respondents had a high fast food consumption pattern (65.5%), and statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between fast food consumption frequency and obesity (p<0.05). Moreover, low physical activity was also correlated with an increased prevalence of obesity. The conclusion of this study is that high fast food consumption and low physical activity contribute to obesity among adolescents. These findings highlight the importance of nutritional education and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among adolescents as a preventive measure against obesity. Abstract

Problem of malnutrition in adolescents is chronic energy deficiency (CED) which will have an impact on increasing the prevalence of stunting in infants. This study aims to determine of chronic energy deficiency on adolescent girls. Type of research in this study is an observational cross sectional study in 40 villages of locus stunting Bone and Enrekang involving adolescent girls with cluster random sampling. The instruments of this study is an interview software application on Android and anthropometric measurements of adolescent girls. The dependent vari­able was CED. The independent variables were age, nutritional know­ledge, family income, eating Habits, food Taboo and family smoking status. Data were analysed using the chi-square statistical test to show the relationship between variables. The majority of respondents were in the KEK nutritional status in Bone (56.4%) and Enrekang (51.9%). In Bone and Enrekang regencies, the age group was a determining factor for KEK (p<0.05). Family income in Bone showed significant relationship with the nutritional status of adolescent girls (p<0.05). The nutritional status of adolescent girls is important to pay attention to because they, as future mothers, must have good nutrition to give birth to a quality generation.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Anemia pada remaja putri merupakan masalah kesehatan global, dan intervensi medis seperti pemberian Tablet Tambah Darah (TTD) saja mungkin tidak cukup untuk menurunkan prevalensi anemia. Biji labu, yang kaya akan zat gizi, dapat digunakan sebagai dasar camilan sehat untuk membantu mencegah anemia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kandungan zat gizi dan penerimaan panelis terhadap kukis biji labu berdasarkan aspek warna, aroma, tekstur, dan rasa. Penelitian eksperimental ini dilakukan di laboratorium kuliner Fakultas Kesehatan Masyarakat, Universitas Hasanuddin, Makassar. Metodologi: Uji organoleptik pada 35 panelis yang merupakan mahasiswa. Penerimaan dinilai menggunakan skala hedonik, dan kandungan gizi dianalisis menggunakan Tabel Komposisi Pangan Indonesia. Hasil: Hasil menunjukkan bahwa satu porsi (30 g) kukis biji labu memberikan 128,3% dari asupan harian zat besi yang direkomendasikan, 83% protein, dan 131,3% seng untuk remaja putri. Dalam hasil organoleptik, 45,8% panelis bersikap netral terhadap warna, 68,5% menyukai aroma, 65,7% menyukai tekstur, dan 74,3% menyukai atau sangat menyukai rasa. Nilai rata-rata daya terima kukis biji labu kuning secara keseluruhan untuk masing-masing atribut adalah: warna 3,2 ± 0,7; aroma 3,8 ± 0,7; tekstur 3,7 ± 0,9; dan rasa 4,0 ± 0,9. Kesimpulan: Penerimaan tertinggi ada pada aspek rasa. Meskipun rasa kukis biji labu menunjukkan penerimaan yang baik, peningkatan warna menggunakan pewarna makanan alami dapat meningkatkan daya tarik visual.

Abstract

Pemdahuluan: Gizi kurang pada balita dipengaruhi oleh emotional bonding ibu-anak dan praktik pemberian makan. Pola makan yang tidak tepat dapat menghambat asupan nutrisi dan tumbuh kembang anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan menggambarkan dinamika emotional bonding dan praktik pemberian makan pada ibu dengan balita gizi kurang di Puskesmas Tanah Kali Kedinding Surabaya. Metodologi: Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan enam ibu balita sebagai informan utama dan enam anggota keluarga sebagai informan pendukung. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi naturalistik, dengan mengamati perilaku subjek di lingkungan alaminya tanpa intervensi. Analisis data dilakukan secara tematik untuk mengidentifikasi pola emotional bonding dan praktik pemberian makan. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa emotional bonding yang baik antara ibu dan anak terjalin melalui ekspresi fisik, verbal, dan emosional, meskipun dalam kondisi keterbatasan gizi. Kelekatan berkembang secara bertahap seiring pertambahan usia dan kualitas interaksi, serta diperkuat oleh rutinitas yang konsisten dan penuh kehangatan. Selain itu, praktik pemberian makan yang responsif dan menyenangkan terbukti membantu mengatasi tantangan makan pada anak. Kesimpulan: Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa emotional bonding yang kuat dan praktik pemberian makan yang responsif dalam lingkungan emosional yang aman dan nyaman merupakan elemen penting dalam menunjang pemenuhan gizi pada balita.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Anemia merupakan kondisi rendahnya kadar hemoglobin dalam darah dan menjadi masalah kesehatan global, terutama di negara berkembang. WHO memperkirakan 30% populasi dunia mengalami anemia, dengan dominasi kasus pada remaja putri dan ibu hamil. Jenis yang paling umum adalah anemia defisiensi besi sebesar 72,3%, dengan prevalensi pada anak usia sekolah mencapai 60%. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas infusa pucuk daun labu siam (chayote) terhadap peningkatan kadar hemoglobin dan indeks massa tubuh (IMT) pada remaja putri anemia. Metodologi: Penelitian menggunakan quasi experiment dengan desain two group pretest-posttest terhadap 78 subjek yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi, teknik pengambilan sampel dengan non-probablility sampling jenis purposive sampling. Intervensi berupa infusa 2 gram simplisia pucuk daun labu siam dikonsumsi sekali sehari selama 10 hari. Analisis menggunakan uji Wilcoxon, Paired Sample T-Test, dan Mann Whitney. Hasil: Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan kadar hemoglobin pada kelompok intervensi (Δ = 1,541; ρ = 0,000) dibanding kontrol (Δ = 0,533). IMT meningkat di kedua kelompok, namun tidak signifikan antar kelompok (ρ = 0,051). Kesimpulan: Infusa pucuk daun labu siam efektif meningkatkan kadar hemoglobin pada remaja putri anemia, namun tidak berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap peningkatan IMT.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Stunting adalah kekurangan gizi kronis yang didasarkan pada indeks panjang badan dibanding umur (PB/U) atau tinggi badan dibanding umur (TB/U) dengan batas (z-score) kurang dari -2 SD. Prevalensi stunting Indonesia termasuk ke dalam negara ketiga dengan prevalensi tertinggi di regional Asia Tenggara/South-East Asia Regional (SEAR). Menurut data riskesdas Provinsi Banten tahun 2013, Kabupaten Serang memiliki prevalensi kejadian stunting sebesar 32,3%. Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara faktor-faktor risiko dengan efek. Metode: Desain penelitian ini adalah Cross Sectional dengan sampel sebanyak 76 balita. Hasil: Analisis data univariat dan bivariat menggunakan uji Chi-Square dengan α = 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tidak terdapat hubungan jamban sehat (p value =0.767) dan merokok keluarga (p=value 0.157) dengan kejadian stunting. Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan JKN/BPJS dengan (p value=0.000), air bersih dengan (p value= 0.000), riwayat imunisasi dengan (p value=0.011), dan riwayat ibu hamil KEK (p value=0.011) dengan kejadian stunting.
