Abstract

This study aims to describe language choice and the dynamics of language maintenance within a multilingual speech community in the Bhayangkari Polres Kerinci environment. A qualitative approach with a descriptive method was employed. The research data consisted of oral utterances produced by Bhayangkari members, collected through non-participant observation during both formal and informal organizational activities. The findings reveal that Indonesian is predominantly used in formal settings as the official language and a unifying medium of the organization, while local languages such as Jambi, Kerinci, Sungai Penuh, and Minangkabau are more frequently used in informal interactions as a means of language maintenance and a marker of social identity. In addition, instances of code-switching and translanguaging were identified in linguistic interactions as communicative strategies to adapt to social contexts. These findings indicate that language choice within the Bhayangkari community is dynamic and influenced by communicative situations and the speakers’ linguistic backgrounds.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of brand awareness on K-pop merchandise purchases made through the Weverse Shop application. The study employs a quantitative approach by distributing online questionnaires. This study uses primary data as its data source. The study population consisted of Indonesian K-pop fans who were familiar with and had access to the Weverse Shop application. A total of 100 people were surveyed. The analysis techniques included validity and reliability tests, simple linear regression, t-tests, and the coefficient of determination (R²). The results show that brand awareness significantly influences purchasing decisions. Regression analysis proves that brand awareness positively affects purchasing decisions; the greater a consumer's awareness of a brand (in this case, Weverse Shop), the greater their tendency to purchase merchandise through that platform.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ conceptual and mathematical difficulties in solving chemistry problems on the topic of reaction rates. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach with 27 eleventh-grade science students from SMA Negeri 12 Kendari as the subjects. The research instrument was a written diagnostic test designed to identify students’ conceptual and mathematical difficulties based on learning indicators for reaction rates. The data were analyzed by calculating the percentage levels of students’ difficulties for each indicator as well as the average difficulty for each aspect. The results show that, in the conceptual aspect, students’ difficulties fall into the moderate category with an average percentage of 46%, with the highest difficulty found in the indicator of relating changes in concentration to time (55%). In the mathematical aspect, students’ difficulties range from moderate to high, with an average percentage of 52%, where the highest difficulty occurs in the indicator of applying reaction rate formulas (65%). These findings indicate that students’ mathematical difficulties tend to be more dominant than their conceptual difficulties; therefore, instruction on reaction rates should be designed to emphasize a balanced integration of conceptual understanding and computational skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze community initiatives in preventing youth brawls in Padang City through a case study of the Anti-Brawl Task Force in Tanjung Saba Pitameh Nan XX Village. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with informants consisting of community leaders, members of the Anti-Brawl Task Force, village officials, and security personnel. Data analysis was performed using the interactive model by Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, with data validity tested through source and technique triangulation. The results show that the community initiative in preventing brawls is dominated by the Locality Development model, as proposed by Rothman (2001), reflected in the active participation and collective awareness of the community in maintaining neighborhood security through patrols, monitoring vulnerable areas, and using a persuasive approach with youth. The Social Planning model serves as a supporting element through the identification of brawl patterns, determination of high-risk times and locations, and coordination with relevant authorities, although it is not supported by systematic and written planning. Meanwhile, the Social Action model has not developed significantly because the approach used is more cooperative than confrontational. These findings emphasize that community-based brawl prevention is more effective when built through participation, solidarity, and local community independence.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has increased the flow of information, which is not always verified, requiring students to adopt a critical and cautious attitude towards information. From the perspective of Islamic education, the value of tabayyun (verification) becomes an important principle in fostering critical, objective, and responsible attitudes. This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing the value of tabayyun in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning based on the Merdeka Curriculum, the strategies employed by PAI teachers to instill it, and the supporting and inhibiting factors. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method at Pertiwi 2 Padang High School. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, using triangulation. The results show that the internalization of tabayyun values occurs through stages of value transformation, value transaction, and value transinternalization, which are implicitly integrated into critical thinking learning. Supporting factors include school policies that support character education, a conducive religious environment, and adequate digital facilities, while inhibiting factors include students' low interest in social issues, limited learning time, and uneven teacher understanding of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of power in political discourse through a critical discourse analysis of the dialogue between Najwa Shihab and Prabowo Subianto concerning the Draft Law on the Indonesian National Police. The research aims to reveal how power relations between media and the state are constructed, negotiated, and maintained through language. Employing a qualitative approach, this study applies Norman Fairclough’s three dimensional model of Critical Discourse Analysis, encompassing textual analysis, discursive practice, and social practice. The data consist of fifteen selected excerpts from the televised dialogue, which are analyzed as complete discursive events. The findings indicate that at the textual level, Najwa Shihab employs evaluative diction, oppositional structures, and critical interrogative forms to problematize the draft law and challenge state authority, while Prabowo Subianto utilizes declarative, normative, and imperative expressions to assert legitimacy and institutional power. At the level of discursive practice, the media exercises discursive control by framing issues around public concerns and directing the flow of interaction, whereas the state adopts defensive and justificatory strategies to normalize policy decisions and limit criticism. At the level of social practice, the discourse reflects broader democratic tensions in Indonesia related to transparency, public participation, and the centralization of state power. The study concludes that the dialogue functions not merely as an informative interview but as a political arena where media and state actors compete discursively to shape meaning, legitimacy, and public opinion.

Abstract

The sugarcane palm sugar industry is a strategic plantation sector in Kerinci Regency, particularly in Sungai Asam Village, where approximately 95% of the population has depended on this commodity for generations. However, this home-based industry faces serious challenges, including a decline in the number of business units due to highly traditional cultivation methods, the continued use of non-uniform local seedlings originating from the colonial era, and the absence of standardized post-harvest management practices. This community service activity aims to document the profile of existing local sugarcane cultivation and to identify solutions to low productivity, which currently averages only about 6 tons per hectare. The implementation method involved farmer surveys using a snowball sampling technique and field observations on 10 × 10 meter sample plots. The results indicate that by applying a selective harvesting method on a 1-hectare plantation, farmers are able to produce an average of 200 kg of palm sugar per week, with an average yield recovery rate of 12.07%. The resulting income reaches approximately IDR 4,000,000 per month, which is economically higher than income from oil palm land management. It can be concluded that the sugarcane palm sugar business in Sungai Asam Village has strong economic prospects; however, it requires interventions such as the adoption of superior varieties, improvements in farmers’ cash flow financing systems, and diversification of processed products to enhance market value and boost the regional economy.
