Abstract

Oral communication skills are important competencies that students need to support their learning process and social life. However, initial observations at SMPN Batu Payung, Balukhering Village, East Flores Regency, showed that some students were still shy, nervous, and lacked confidence when speaking in public. They also had limited understanding of basic public speaking techniques, including articulation, intonation, voice volume, eye contact, and body language. This activity aimed to empower students' oral literacy through public speaking training while developing their verbal and nonverbal communication competencies. The activity was conducted on June 9, 2026, involving 34 students of SMPN Batu Payung. A participatory approach was applied through four main stages: preparation, observation and coordination, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. Data were collected through observation, direct interaction, and documentation. The training consisted of material presentation, dialogue and discussion, and public speaking practices, including self-introduction, sharing personal experiences or hobbies, and expressing opinions. The results showed that the participants demonstrated good enthusiasm and active participation throughout the activity. Students began to understand the importance of managing verbal and nonverbal messages and demonstrated greater willingness to speak and express their ideas in front of an audience. The training provided practical communication experiences that supported the development of students' oral literacy, confidence, and communication skills. Similar activities need to be conducted continuously to further develop students' public speaking skills.

Abstract

Stunting is a major public health problem that affects the quality of human resources, making effective intervention programs essential. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Stunting Management Program in Sesaot Village, Narmada District, West Lombok Regency, and to identify the factors that hinder its implementation. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-evaluative method. Research informants were selected through purposive sampling and included village government officials, health workers, integrated health service post (posyandu) cadres, pregnant women, and mothers with children under five years of age. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, which consists of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings indicate that the Stunting Management Program has been implemented relatively effectively through various activities, including regular posyandu services, child growth monitoring, supplementary feeding programs, immunization, vitamin A supplementation, maternal health examinations, iron tablet distribution, nutrition education, and family assistance. The program’s effectiveness is reflected in the reduction of stunting cases from 53 cases during the 2021–2023 period to 49 cases during the 2025–2026 period. However, program implementation has not yet been fully optimal due to low community participation, limited understanding of stunting prevention, household economic constraints, and limited implementation resources. The findings suggest that program success is determined not only by the implementation of health interventions but also by cross-sectoral coordination, community involvement, and changes in family behavior related to nutritional practices. Therefore, strengthening educational efforts, increasing community participation, and fostering sustainable collaboration are essential to accelerate the reduction of stunting prevalence.

Abstract

Public service delivery in remote sub-district areas such as Kodi Bangedo, Southwest Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, faces persistent challenges arising from difficult geographical conditions, limited administrative human resources, and inadequate service facilities. Residents from remote villages must travel two to three hours and spend IDR 50,000–100,000 to access a single administrative service, while the completion time for population administration and licensing services often exceeds the ideal standard. This study aims to (1) analyze the quality of public services at the Kodi Bangedo Sub-district Office based on five SERVQUAL dimensions (tangible, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy) across three main service categories, and (2) examine the strategies adopted by the sub-district office in addressing public service challenges in order to fulfil the Minimum Service Standard (Standar Pelayanan Minimal/SPM). A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation study with informants determined through purposive and snowball sampling; data were analyzed using an interactive analysis model, with a Likert-scale questionnaire used as a complementary triangulation instrument. The findings show that public service quality remains uneven, with an overall SERVQUAL average of 2.36 (Kurang Baik/Fair). The responsiveness and assurance dimensions perform relatively well, whereas tangible, reliability, and empathy are still constrained by limited facilities, unstable technological infrastructure, and delays in service completion. To address these challenges, the sub-district office has implemented five strategies: optimizing apparatus resources, improving facilities and infrastructure, strengthening service administration systems, enhancing service quality for the community, and improving communication and responsiveness. These strategies remain largely adaptive and are not yet fully supported by formal policy, updated standard operating procedures, or dedicated budget allocation, indicating the need for further institutional strengthening

Abstract

Household waste is the largest contributor to national waste generation, accounting for approximately 50.8 percent of the total waste composition in 2024 (GoodStats Data 2025). A similar condition is found in Lubuk Gilang Village, Air Periukan District, Seluma Regency, where most residents still manage household waste conventionally through open burning or dumping on vacant land due to the limited availability of waste transport and processing facilities at the village level. This Community Service Program (KKN) aims to increase public understanding and awareness of the importance of household waste management through socialization activities, as well as to provide practical skills in converting waste into useful products, namely ecopaving blocks from plastic waste and biopore compost from organic waste. The implementation method consisted of field surveys, socialization through lectures and interactive discussions, demonstrations and hands-on training in producing ecopaving blocks and biopore compost, and monitoring and evaluation of the outcomes. The results show that the socialization activity successfully increased community understanding of the risks of waste accumulation and burning, while the training in producing ecopaving blocks and biopore compost provided residents with practical skills to reduce plastic and organic waste volumes while generating useful, economically valuable products. This program is expected to serve as a sustainable, community-based waste management model for rural areas.

Abstract

English language proficiency is a crucial foundation for the younger generation in navigating the era of global communication; however, disparities in access and learning effectiveness in rural areas remain fundamental challenges. This research and community service initiative aimed to assess the baseline English vocabulary proficiency of children and the effectiveness of the "English Learning Day" program based on a "Fun Learning" approach in Lubuk Gilang Village, Air Periukan District, Seluma Regency. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were gathered through direct observation and documentation involving students from kindergarten, elementary, and junior high school levels. The findings revealed low baseline proficiency and minimal self-confidence when speaking English. Following a phased intervention using thematic materials incorporating educational games, flashcards, songs, role-play, and periodic review sessions significant improvements in comprehension and self-confidence were observed across all levels. Average vocabulary mastery increased from 3–5 to 12–15 words for kindergarteners, from 8–12 to 20–25 words for elementary students, and from 15–20 to 28–35 words for junior high students. The program's success was driven by high child participation and support from village officials, despite constraints regarding time and a lack of language exposure in the home environment. This program demonstrates that the "Fun Learning" approach is an effective, adaptive, and communicative model for teaching English to children in rural areas.

Abstract

South Bengkulu Regency is located on the western coast of Sumatra, directly facing an active subduction zone, which places it at high risk of earthquakes, tsunamis, and landslides. Community preparedness, particularly among school-aged groups, is an important factor in reducing disaster risk and impact. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and preparedness of students at MAS Al-Qur'aniyah in facing earthquake, tsunami, and landslide disasters through a disaster mitigation socialization program. The activity was carried out by students of the Community Service Program (KKN) of the University of Bengkulu, Period 108, Group 114, in collaboration with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Bengkulu Regency on 20 July 2026 in a classroom of MAS Al-Qur'aniyah, involving 30 students. The implementation method consisted of two stages, namely the planning stage (coordination with the school and BPBD, preparation of materials and facilities) and the implementation stage (material presentation by a BPBD resource person and a question-and-answer session). The results showed good participant enthusiasm, indicated by active engagement during the presentation and three questions raised during the discussion session regarding evacuation procedures and natural signs preceding a disaster. This activity is expected to serve as an initial foundation for students in building a disaster-aware culture and encouraging the establishment of disaster-resilient schools in disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

The increasing demand for clean water in Padang City requires optimal performance of water treatment plants (WTPs), including the Palukahan Water Treatment Plant. In the water treatment process, Poly Aluminium Chloride (PAC) solution is used as a coagulant and injected through a dosing pump. The reliability of the dosing pump is crucial for ensuring that the quality of treated water complies with the standards stipulated in Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023. However, failures in the dosing pump can disrupt the coagulation process and reduce water treatment efficiency. This study aims to analyze the causes of dosing pump failures and provide recommendations for appropriate maintenance actions. The recommended maintenance strategies include periodic preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance in response to operational anomalies, and regular evaluation of pump performance parameters. This study is expected to serve as a technical reference for Perumda Air Minum Kota Padang in improving the reliability of the dosing system and maintaining the quality of clean water services for the community.
