Abstract

In North Sumatra Province, specifically in the area of Labuhan Deli in Deli Serdang Regency, stunting is still a concern in nutrition among toddlers. In Labuhan Deli, the percentage of instances of stunting rose from 0.48% to 1.46% in 2021. Since adolescent girls will eventually become mothers and bear the next generation, they have a tremendous chance to interrupt the cycle of stunting. Purpose : This study aims to determine the effect of video media on the level of knowledge and attitudes in adolescent girls about stunting prevention at SMA Negeri 1 Labuhan Deli, Deli Serdang Regency.  This is quantitative research with a Quasi Experiment Design. The population of this study was all adolescent girls at the school. The sample of this study was 42 adolescent girls taken by using Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling technique. Data analysis used Paired Sample t-test. The results showed that there were differences in knowledge before (mean = 7.17) and after treatment (mean = 11.00) and there were differences in attitudes before (mean = 28.64) and after treatment with (mean = 39.57). Paired Sample t-test results on the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls obtained p value = 0.000 (< α = 0.05). It can be concluded that there was an effect of video media on the level of knowledge and attitudes in adolescent girls about stunting prevention at SMA Negeri 1 Labuhan Deli, Deli Serdang Regency. It is suggested to the local Health Center to be able to utilize video media in the selection of health promotion media.

Introduction: Anemia is a situation wherein the variety of blood cells inside the frame is small; as a result, the distribution of oxygen at some stage in the frame is delayed. Abstract

There is a possibility of work accidents at hospitals., especially fires. Ionizing radiation, chemicals, and medicinal gases are flammable elements that pose a significant fire risk. The observation's findings revealed that at Mitra Medika Tanjung Mulia Hospital, small extinguishers for fires of the dry chemical powder type and fire extinguishers for CO2, emergency stairs, routes for evacuation, and assembly points were available. However, some nurses continued to lack the knowledge necessary to utilize them. This study investigates factors associated with inpatient nurses' preventive efforts at Mitra Medika Tanjung Mulia Hospital. This cross-sectional study employs a quantitative methodology. There were 90 participants in the study, all nurses, and a purposive sampling technique was used to select a sample size of 35 participants. The chi-square test statistic is used in data analysis. According to the study, attitude has a p = 0.009 < 0.05, and knowledge has a p = 0.017 < 0.05. Based on these findings, Mitra Medika Tanjung Mulia Hospital's knowledge and attitudes regarding fire prevention. According to the study's findings, Mitra Medika Tanjung Mulia Hospital's fire prevention is influenced by certain factors. Hospitals should consider teaching all their nurses about fire safety so that they are well-versed in the subject and can prevent fires in medical facilities.

Abstract

Cosmetics are products used to improve the appearance of the outer body. Cosmetics are inseparable from dyes. One dye that is often misused in cosmetic products is Rhodamine B. Rhodamine B can cause liver damage and irritation of the respiratory tract and is carcinogenic. This review article aims to provide information on the use of analytical techniques to identify cosmetic products containing rhodamine B. The method used is a literature review by searching research journals with a period of 2013-2023 on Science Direct and Google Scholar using the keywords "identification of k10 red dye in cosmetics", "rhodamine B analysis in cosmetics," and "k10 red dye analysis method in cosmetics". Based on the literature review that has been carried out, identifying the content of rhodamine B dye can be done with various analysis techniques including Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), UV Vis Spectrophotometry, Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometric (UPLC-MS), and rapid test kit. Qualitative analysis of rhodamine B content in cosmetics can be done with KLT and a rapid test kit. Quantitative analysis can be done using UV Vis, KCKT, and UPLC MS spectrophotometry methods.

Abstract

Gamma oryzanol and anthocyanin are bioactive components contained in red sticky rice bran (Oryza sativa L var. Glutinosa). These two ingredients function as natural antioxidants. Peel-off gel mask containing red glutinous rice bran extract is formulated with varying concentrations of polyvinyl alcohol F1 12%, F2 14%, and F3 16% as gelling agent. This research aims to formulate a peel-off gel mask and carry out an evaluation to obtain the best formula physically and with the highest antioxidant activity. Each formula was tested for organoleptic, homogeneity, pH value, physical stability during storage, spreading power and drying power of the preparation and skin irritation testing. The research results showed that F3 was the best formula in terms of physical and antioxidant activity with an inhibition percentage of 90.5827%. Based on one-way ANOVA analysis, there was a significant difference in antioxidant activity between peel-off gel mask formulas with a significant value of p<0.05.

Abstract

Introduction Anemia in pregnancy is a condition when the hemoglobin (Hb) level is <11 g% in the first and third trimesters, while in the second trimester, the hemoglobin level is <10.5 g%. The implications for pregnant women with anemia are abortion, bleeding during childbirth, low birth weight (LBW) babies, congenital disabilities, and babies easily infected and susceptible to suffering from malnutrition. Objective This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of anemia in pregnant women at Mandrehe Health Center, West Nias Regency. Methods This is an analytical research study using a cross-sectional design. The population in this study was 140 pregnant women, while the sample was 104 pregnant women. The sampling technique was done by proportional random sampling. The data analysis technique used the chi-square test. Results showed that there was a relationship between knowledge and anemia with a p-value of 0.008. There was a relationship between diet and anemia with a p-value of 0.007. There was a relationship between parity and anemia with a p-value of 0.012). There was a relationship between adherence to Fe tablet consumption and anemia with a p-value of 0.000. Conclusion Health workers are expected to provide education to pregnant women about making antenatal care visits during pregnancy. In this way, health workers can monitor the diet, parity, and compliance of pregnant women in consuming blood supplements tablets.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that is famous for its wealth of natural energy sources and plants that have medicinal properties. Avocado is one of the plants that residents have used from generation to generation for traditional medicine. Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is a plant that contains many compounds that have antioxidant properties. Secondary metabolite bioactive compounds that play a role are saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, safrole, and tannins. Antioxidant compounds are electron distributors, which can counteract oxidants' negative impacts. This research aims to determine the ethanol extract content of avocado leaves containing secondary metabolites and the IC50 value of avocado leaf extract. One method of measuring free radicals by antioxidant compounds is to use the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 516 nm and vitamin C as a comparison. The research showed positive results in the phytochemical screening of Simplicia and avocado leaf extract against alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, steroid saponins, and glycosides. It can be concluded that the results of research on the antioxidant activity of avocado leaves have an IC50 value of 9.24 µg/ml in the very strong category, equivalent to vitamin C comparison, which has antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 1.942 µg/ml in the very strong category.

Abstract

Human life always coexists with various types of microbes. One of them is kenaga leaves (Cananga odorata (Lam.) Hook. F. & Thomson), which is a plant that can be used as a traditional medicine, one of which can be used to treat itching on human skin and can inhibit bacteria, one of which is Staphylococcus epidermidis. This research aimed to determine the types of secondary metabolite compounds contained in ylang-ylang leaves (Cananga odorata (Lam.) Hook. F. & Thomson) and to test the antibacterial activity of the n-hexane and ethyl acetate fractions of ylang-ylang leaves (Cananga odorata (Lam.) Hook. F. & Thomson). This research method includes simplicia characterization and phytochemical screening on simplicia powder and 96% ethanol extract. Extraction was done by maceration with 96% ethanol solvent, then liquid-liquid fractionation with n-hexane and ethyl acetate solvents. The antibacterial activity test was carried out by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone using the agar diffusion method. The results of the examination of the characteristics of ylang-ylang leaf Simplicia powder (Cananga odorata (Lam.) Hook. F. & Thomson) showed that the water content was 7.33%, the water-soluble essence content was 26.48%, the total ash was 3.52%, and acid insoluble ash content 0.18%. The results of phytochemical screening showed alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, glycosides, tannins, and steroids. The activity test results on the n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol extract fractions had antibacterial activity. The n-hexane fraction gave strong results against Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria at a 70 mg/ml concentration with an inhibitory zone diameter of 12.37 mm. The ethyl acetate fraction was strong against Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria at a 70 mg/ml concentration with an inhibition zone diameter of 12.98 mm.

Abstract

Antioxidants are chemical compounds that, in specific amounts, can inhibit or slow down cell damage caused by free radicals. Antioxidants function to protect the body from free radical attacks. The more free radicals in the body, the more cells will be damaged. One plant that contains antioxidant compounds is casturi mango (Mangifera casturi Koesterm.). Casturi mango (Mangifera casturi Koesterm.) is a plant that contains secondary metabolite compounds such as saponins, tannins, triterpenoids, flavonoids, and phenolics which have potential as antioxidants. This research aimed to determine differences in secondary metabolite compounds and antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of casturi mango leaves (Mangifera casturi Koesterm.) growing in Gampong Drien Bungong, Pidie Jaya. The stages of this research include sample processing, making ethanol extract of kasturi mango leaves, characterization examination, phytochemical screening, and antioxidant activity test. The sample used was musk mango leaves. The ethanol extract of casturi mango leaves (Mangifera casturi Koesterm.) was extracted using maceration with 96% ethanol solvent. The antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH (1-1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazyl) method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a maximum wavelength of 516 nm and vitamin C as a comparison. Based on the results of phytochemical screening tests, there are differences in secondary metabolites in the ethanol extract of kasturi mango leaves in Gampong Drien Bungong, Pidie Jaya, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids, and glycosides, and the results of antioxidant activity obtained an IC50 value of 9.06 ppm with the category very strong, equivalent to the antioxidant potential of vitamin C, having an IC50 value of 4.63 ppm in the robust category.

Abstract

Antioxidants are compounds that can delay, slow down, or inhibit the oxidation reaction of food or medicine. Antioxidants include electron-donor compounds that work by donating an electron to compounds that are free radicals so that radical activity is inhibited. One of the plants that can be used as a source of natural antioxidants is salam leaf (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight.) Walp). Salam leaves contain secondary metabolite compounds, including alkaloids, tannins, saponins, steroids, triterpenoids, and flavonoids, which act as antioxidants. The study aimed to determine whether the methanol extract of salam leaves (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight.) Walp.), which grows in Gampong Bunot, Pidie Jaya, contains secondary metabolites and has activity as an antioxidant. This research was conducted experimentally, where the sample used was salam leaves. The stages of this research included the processing of plant materials, preparation of methanol extract of salam leaves, characterization examination, phytochemical screening, and antioxidant activity test of methanol extract of salam leaves using the DPPH method. Salam leaf extract was prepared by maceration method using methanol solvent obtained and concentrated with a rotary evaporator, then the phytochemical screening test and the antioxidant activity test of the methanol extract of salam leaves were carried out using the DPPH method (1,1 diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazil) at a wavelength of 516 nm and vitamin C as a comparison. Based on the results of the phytochemical screening test, there were differences in secondary metabolites in the methanol extract of salam leaves grown in Gampong Bunot, Pidie Jaya, including alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids, and glycosides. The results of the antioxidant activity test of the methanol extract of salam leaves obtained the IC value50 of 25.68 µg/ml and the IC value50 Vitamin C of 4.537 µg/ml in the second category is very strong.
