Abstract

Scientific argumentation is one of the main competencies of students in communicating chemical phenomena through the application of conceptual mastery that they have understood. The development of this ability has been postulated in the 2013 curriculum through constructivist-based learning approaches and scientific inquiry, either in the classroom or the laboratory. However, there is relatively little information on how students' scientific argumentation skills develop. This study aims to measure students' scientific argumentation skills in explaining five science phenomena related to the acid-base concept, namely: acid rain, salt crystal making, the use of antacids as ulcer medicine, the use of CaMgCO3 dolomite fertilizer, and the difference in the acidity level of HCl and H2SO4, using Rasch modeling. Each phenomenon was measured by three multiple-choice test items, which were developed to test students' ability to make claims (Q1), evidence (Q2), and justification (Q3). The data were analyzed using Rasch modeling, allowing researchers to measure the item and individual respondent levels. Respondents were 100 chemistry students in Gorontalo, who were differentiated in gender and adversity quotient. The results showed that the measurement instrument has good validity and reliability. In addition, it was found that students' abilities differed; some items responded differently regarding gender and adversity quotient. Most students tended to be weak in explaining the phenomenon of acid rain, the use of antacids for ulcer disease, the use of dolomite fertilizer, and the difference in the acidity level of HCl and H2SO4

Abstract

The integration between the three levels of chemical representations is needed by students to get a comprehensive understanding. Based on the preliminary study only 45.5% out of 120 year 2 and year 3 students of chemistry education who passed the final exam with satisfactory category. Thus, teaching resources that integrate the three levels of chemical representation are needed. The aim of this study is to develop and determine the level of validity of e-module utilizing multiple representations of molecular shapes based on VSEPR theory using augmented reality technology. This research employs research and development refers to the instructional design of the ADDIE model consist of 5 stages: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implementation and Evaluation. The products of this research are the e-module of molecular shapes based on VSEPR theory utilizing multiple representations and Augmented Reality Molecule Simulator (ARMOR) application. The resources presented 13 types of molecular shapes, molecules with lone pair and without lone pair of electrons around the central atom. The instrument used in this study is the validity questionnaire sheet. Data collected were then analyzed using the percentage criteria proposed by Akbar. The results of the experts’ validation indicated that the product is categorized as very valid with 94% of content validity, 93% of media validity, and 99% of language validity. Therefore, the ARMOR is suitable for use in teaching and learning process. Students show a positive response to the use of the application in helping them understand concepts, which are easy to use, has an attractive appearance, and fun.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kreatif dan motivasi siswa pada materi kalor ditinjau dari jenis kelamin. Penelitian dilakukan di SMAN 11 Banda Aceh. Kedua kelas yaitu kelas laki-laki dan perempuan menggunakan metode inkuiri terbimbing. Metode yang digunakan adalah one-group pretest posttest design. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik tes uraian yaitu untuk mengukur keterampilan berpikir kreatif serta angket untuk motivasi peserta didik dengan model inkuiri terbimbing. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kelompok peserta didik laki-laki dan perempuan terhadap keterampilan berpikir kreatif dengan model inkuiri terbimbing dan motivasi siswa pada materi kalor dengan nilai signifikansi 0,05 dan Fhitung (1,85) Ftabel (1,93). Peningkatan ketrampilan berpikir kreatif memiliki rata-rata kelas kelas sebesar 89,14 dengan N-Gain bernilai 84,43% berkategori tinggi. Rata - rata keterampilan berpikir kreatif kelas laki-laki meningkat sebesar 85 dengan N-Gain 78,82% berkategori tinggi. Teramati bahwa model inkuiri terbimbinguntuk meningaktkan berpikir kreatif lebih baik diterapkan pada kelas perempuan. Pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berpengaruh terhadap motivasi belajar siswa dengan nilai rerata motivasi belajar kelas perempuan meningkat sebesar 3,3% sedangkan nilai rerata motivasi belajar pada kelas laki-laki menurun sebesar 3% dengan masing-masing kategori tinggi.

Abstract

Kesadaran metakognisi adalah kesadaran pada kemampuan berpikir untuk mengendalikan proses kognitif yang dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor salah satunya yaitu jangkauan informasi  di lingkungan pendidikan. Maka dari itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan kesadaran metakognisi siswa SMA di lingkungan desa dan kota. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan MAI (Metacognitive Awareness Inventory) yang merupakan instrumen tes yang berisi 52 item yang dibagi menjadi dua bagian yaitu pengetahuan kognisi (knowledge of cognition) dan pengaturan kognisi (regulation of cognition). Penelitian dilakukan di SMA Negeri Kebakkramat Karanganyar sebagai representasi SMA di desa dan SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta sebagai representasi SMA di kota. Teknik pengambilan sampel diambil dengan random sampling dari 30 siswa di masing-masing sekolah dari total populasi keseluruhan 150 siswa pada tiap sekolah. Analisis data menggunakan uji kruskal wallis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara SMA di desa dengan kota pada indikator pengetahuan deklaratif, prosedural, kondisional, perencanaan, pemantauan, debugging, dan evaluasi dan perbedaan yang signifikan hanya ditunjukan pada indikator manajemen informasi metakognisi.

Abstract

Kegiatan laboratorium di negara yang telah maju, pada tingkat SMA lebih banyak dilakukan dengan media komputer sehingga diperlukan adanya media yang dapat digunakan khususnya pada konsep titrasi asam basa. Selain itu, keterampilan proses dibutuhkan siswa karena melalui keterampilan proses siswa memperoleh ilmu sains itu sendiri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keterampilan proses siswa SMAN 2 Banda Aceh pada materi titrasi asam basa setelah menggunakan media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis Microsoft Excel. Penelitian menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan pretest-posttest control group design. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah soal tes dan lembar observasi. Hasil penelitian diperoleh penggunaan media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis Microsoft Excel pada materi titrasi asam basa dapat meningkatkan keterampilan proses siswa SMAN 2 Banda Aceh dari 35,89 dengan nilai ideal 100 menjadi 62,68.

Abstract

Many studies have found that good science process skills are correlated with understanding of concepts. Based on observations, many students have low understanding and processing skills, especially in physics subjects. This study aims to describe the impact of implementing the predict-observe-explain (POE) model assisted by virtual laboratory on the students’ science process skills and conceptual understanding of the topic of Ohm’s law and direct current (DC) electrical circuits. This study used a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 20 prospective teacher students in the Physics Education Program FKIP UPR. The sampling technique was saturated sampling. The instruments used were the conceptual understanding test and the performance test of science process skills. The conceptual understanding score was measured before and after the conducted learning and analyzed by N-Gain. While, data on students' science process skills were obtained from performance tests. The results showed an increase in the students’ conceptual understanding, which was indicated by an N-Gain score of 0.63 (moderate increase category). The aspects of the students’ science process skills observed in this study gained a good category. The results of the process skills test showed that 30% of students acquired science process skills with the category of “excellent”, 40% with the category of “good”, and 25% with the category of “adequate”. Based on results, it can be concluded that implementing a virtual laboratory-assisted POE can improve students’ conceptual understanding and science process skills, especially on the topic of Ohm’s law and dc electrical circuits

Abstract

Penelitian  ini dilakukan  dengan  tujuan  mengetahui untuk  pengetahuan  awal  dan  profil  miskonsepsi  pada  materi suhu dan panas,  serta  menguji  signifikansi  penggunaan  metode kerja laboratorium  dalam menurunkan miskonsepsi pada materi suhu dan panas kelas X SMAN1 Paya Bakong Aceh Utara.  Penelitian ini menggunakan  desain  pre-experimental  design  dengan  bentuk  one  group  pretest-posttest design.  Sampel  yang  digunakan  adalah  kelas  X -1 dan kelas X-2  yang  berjumlah  50  siswa.  Sebelum  dan sesudah  pelaksanaan  metode kerja laboratorium,  siswa  diberikan  14  soal  pretes  dan  postes yang dilengkapi dengan kolom  Certainty of Response Index  (CRI) untuk  membedakan siswa yang tidak tahu konsep (LC), tahu konsep (KCC), menebak (LG), miskonsepsi (Mis) dan tidak konfiden (NC). Jumlah miskonsepsi tiap  siswa  pada  pretes  dan  postes  dianalisis  menggunakan  persentase  pada  Microsoft  Excel  dan  menghasilkan  perbedaan siswa yang terjadi miskonsepsi dan tidak tahu konsep. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh adalah  metode kerja laboratorium mampu secara signifikan menurunkan miskonsepsi pada materi suhu dan panas.

Abstract

The covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia has affected various sectors, one of them is in the education sector. Thus, it interferes with the learning processes conventionally. A solution is needed to respond to the problem in the 21st century. Online learning is one of the alternative ways in utilizing the use of IT-based teaching materials. This study aims to improve the students’ critical thinking skills by using an e-module. The research was the quantitative descriptive method. This study was a quasi-experimental by using a nonequivalent control group design. The samples of the study consisted of 2 classes, namely XI MIPA 1 and XI MIPA 2. The analysis results using independent sample t-test showed a significance value of 0,000 0,05. The data analysis results of critical thinking skills used N-gain score test; the experimental class obtained a score of 0,72, in which it belonged to the high category. Meanwhile, the average N-gain score for the control class was 0,34, in which it belonged to the medium category. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the students’ critical thinking skills between the experimental class and the control class. Therefore, the implementation of a phenomenon-based learning e-module can be an alternative to improve the students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Penggunaan AC dianggap mampu menstabilkan suhu udara maupun kelembapan suatu area dengan sistem pendinginan. Namun, banyak masyarakat tidak menyadari bahwa penggunaan AC yang diperoleh melalui penggunaan bahan refrigerant atau biasa disebut Freon juga menjadi salah satu faktor terjadinya pemanasan global. Oleh karena itu, inovasi AC portable menjadi salah satu bentuk untuk mengurangi pemanasan global serta menghemat energi listrik. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimental dengan pengambilan data langsung terhadap alat uji. Pembuatan AC portable ini dilakukan pada tanggal 20 dan 21 Oktober 2018 di Laboratorium Fisika Jurusan Pendidikan Fisika Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh. Data dianalisis secara teoritis berdasarkan data eksperimen dengan menetukan kondisi pada setiap siklus percobaan. Hasil penelitian AC portable tanpa mengunakan bahan kimia yang mengandung chloro flouro carbon (CFC) atau yang di sebut dengan freon dapat menurunkan suhu ruangan ukuran 3x4 m2 dengan besar perbedaan suhu sebesar 2 0C.

Abstract

In Palembang, almost all the school have been implemented virtual learning, but not every school has complete facilities to support it. In fact, the completeness of facilities such as smartphones, laptops, a stable internet network, and skills in using various digital platforms greatly affect the independence and learning achievement of students. This study aims at discovering the profile of virtual Biology teaching and learning implementation in senior high schools throughout Palembang. This descriptive study was conducted from February to March 2021 with a random sampling technique. The number of 343 student samples was determined using the Slovin formula with an error tolerance of 5%. The samples were five schools in Palembang city, South Sumatera District with varying (A, B, and C) school accreditation levels. Data were collected in two ways, (1) a google form with 45 questions and (2) a six-question interview with Biology teachers from each school. The resulted data were analyzed descriptively. The descriptive analysis of the students’ responses was done by summarizing and presenting them in diagrams. The results showed that in A, B and C accredited high schools, students have similarities in the use of smartphones and laptops in online learning. The most used applications in online learning were WhatsApp and Zoom Meeting. The results of the questionnaire showed that students at all accredited high schools were not accompanied by their parents since they were independent enough. They, furthermore, experienced obstacles such as difficulty understanding the material, lack of concentration, boredom, and unstable internet network
