Abstract

Agricultural production in rural areas produces large amounts of organic waste, such as straw, weeds, and livestock manure, which is often not optimally utilized, causing environmental pollution. One solution that can be implemented is to process this waste into solid organic fertilizer that is useful for improving soil fertility. The Integrated Intensive and Applied Movement (GIAT) 12 Program of Semarang State University conducted training on making organic fertilizer from goat manure in Wirosari Village, Patean District, Kendal Regency, involving the Women Farmers Group as partners. This activity was carried out through socialization, counseling, technical practice, and participatory evaluation. The results of the training showed a significant increase in community knowledge, from only 40% of participants understanding the concept of organic fertilizer before the activity to 100% after the activity. In addition, participants were able to practice making solid organic fertilizer using goat manure, molasses, and Effective Microorganisms 4 (EM4) with a fermentation time of approximately two weeks. The positive impacts of this activity include improving community skills, strengthening the value of mutual cooperation, reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers, and opening up new economic opportunities through independent organic fertilizer production. For the sustainability of the program, support is needed in the form of facilities, continued mentoring, and development of the product value chain so that the social, economic, and environmental benefits can continue to be felt by the community.

Abstract

This community service project aimed to enhance the financial accountability and transparency of Masjid Istiqomah by implementing proper financial reporting standards. The specific objectives were to: 1) Identify and inventory the mosque's assets and financial transactions, 2) Provide training and mentoring on applying Indonesian financial accounting standards for non-profit organizations (ISAK 35) and sharia-compliant philanthropy (PSAK 409), and 3) Assist the mosque's treasurer in preparing a complete set of financial statements for accountability to the congregation. The project employed the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method, focusing on collaborative mentorship. The execution was conducted in phases: a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for initial assessment, an asset identification and data collection phase, a series of technical workshops and intensive mentoring sessions on preparing financial statements, and a finalization phase. The activities were carried out by a team of lecturers and students from UNS, working directly with the mosque's treasury officials. The project successfully produced Masjid Istiqomah's first complete set of financial statements for the period January 1 - June 30, 2025. The outputs include: a Statement of Financial Position, a Statement of Activities, a Statement of Changes in Net Assets, and Notes to the Financial Statements. Furthermore, the competence of the mosque's treasurer in understanding and practicing sharia-based financial recording and reporting was significantly improved. A simple Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for ongoing bookkeeping was also established. This project provides significant practical value by transforming the mosque's financial management from simple cash notes to a standardized, transparent, and accountable system. It strengthens the mosque's social trust (legitimacy) by enabling clear financial accountability to its stakeholders (the congregation). The project also serves as a practical model for other mosques and non-profit organizations seeking to implement ISAK 335 and PSAK 409, demonstrating how academic knowledge can be directly applied to solve real-world community problems. The novelty of this work lies in its focused, hands-on application of complex sharia accounting standards (PSAK 409 and ISAK 335) within the specific, often overlooked context of a local mosque. While these standards exist theoretically, their practical implementation at the grassroots level is limited. This project bridges that gap by translating accounting theory into a simple, manageable framework for non-accountant mosque officials, ensuring both religious compliance (sharia principles) and financial accountability. The participatory mentorship model ensures the solution is sustainable and owned by the community.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum requires learning practices that foster deep learning, which teachers are expected not only to deliver content but also to cultivate higher-order thinking skills and design instruction that accommodates diverse student characteristics. However, observations and interviews at SMP Negeri 12 Pekalongan revealed that teachers still face limitations in planning and managing adaptive learning. Their understanding of students’ interests and needs remains at a general diagnostic level, making it difficult to fully address individual differences in potential and character. To address this challenge, a Community Service program was carried out through training and mentoring in the application of design thinking as a creative, problem-solving–oriented approach. The program consisted of five main stages: socialization, workshop and training, technical training and implementation, program evaluation, and program continuity. The training combined 25% theory and 75% practice using case studies, simulations, and interactive discussions to provide teachers with hands-on experience in designing design thinking–based learning materials. Mentoring sessions ensured that teachers could implement the concept in classroom practice. Evaluation results showed that 85% of participating teachers understood the concept of design thinking and were able to apply it in heterogeneous classrooms, with the majority successfully developing learning tools ready for classroom implementation. These findings demonstrate that design thinking training and mentoring effectively enhance teachers’ capacity to design creative, adaptive, and student-centered instruction, while also supporting the realization of deep learning in schools.

Abstract

The community service activity entitled “Healthy Living in Facing Chronic Diseases in Elderly: Towards Healthy and Active Elderly” was conducted at Posyandu Lansia Cendana, RW 04, Sumur Batu Village, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. This program aimed to enhance the knowledge and awareness of elderly individuals regarding chronic disease management through structured health education and basic health screening. The activity employed a participatory and educational approach, including interactive counseling, healthy lifestyle training, elderly exercise sessions, and simple health assessments (blood pressure, random blood glucose, body mass index, and waist circumference). A total of 100 elderly participants took part, supported by healthcare professionals, local cadres, and community leaders. The results showed that most participants were women (87%) aged between 61 and 79 years. Screening data revealed that the majority of participants had a body mass index in the overweight category (48%) and waist circumference above the normal limit, indicating a high risk of metabolic disorders. Moreover, random blood glucose results suggested that many participants were in the prediabetic range. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant improvement in knowledge scores before and after the educational intervention (p = 0.014), indicating the effectiveness of the program in improving elderly participants’ understanding of chronic disease prevention and management. This activity proved effective in promoting awareness, healthy lifestyle adoption, and early detection of chronic disease complications among the elderly. Furthermore, it positively influenced psychosocial well-being by enhancing confidence and social engagement. It is recommended that similar programs be conducted regularly and integrated into community-based elderly health initiatives, such as Posyandu Lansia, with active involvement of local health cadres to ensure program sustainability.
