Abstract

Populations living in flood- prone areas will experience repeated floods . Repeated floods will have an impact on a person's health and well-being. Handling the impact of floods , especially psychological impacts such as anxiety, is by providing special interventions in the form of post-flood psychosocial assistance. The community service activities carried out aim to provide knowledge and skills to children regarding flood disaster preparedness and how to overcome anxiety due to flood disasters that occur. The method used is to provide health education and demonstrations then conduct an evaluation by comparing pretest and posttest values using a questionnaire. The activity was carried out in March 2024 and was attended by 19 people. The results of community service showed that there was a significant difference in the average knowledge value before and after being given Disaster Preparedness Education and participants had the ability to overcome anxiety with breathing meditation techniques . Post- flood psychosocial assistance needs to be carried out as a promotive and preventive effort for communities in wetland environments that have the potential to experience repeated floods .

Abstract

Bubu is one type of fishing gear that operates passively on the bottom of the water. In general, bubu is classified as a catching device in the form of a cage or a closed room, where the fish that enter it cannot come out again. This dedication program aims to apply and test the bottom trap construction that is operated in the waters of Lhok Paroy, as well as evaluate its effectiveness in increasing the catch of local fishermen. This activity was carried out in July-August 2023, located in Paroy Village, Lhoong District, Aceh Besar Regency. The method used is a test method (experimental fishing) by operating a trap directly in the location. The result of the dedication shows that the construction of the trap used has a length of 1.5 m, a width of 1.0 m, and a height of 0.5 m, with a mesh size of 2 inches, additional weights tied to the rope of the branch, and a buoy as a marker of the presence of the trap . As many as 6 species of fish were identified in the catch of bubu, namely red snapper (Lutjanus malabaricus), grouper fish (Epinephelus coioides), chicken fish (Balistoides viridescens), pomace fish (Platax teira), gaga snapper (Lutjanus rivulatus), and treacherous fish (Lutjanus johnii). The total number of fish caught was 16 from 3 trips, with a total weight of 13,474 grams. This result shows that the application of this basic trap has the potential to increase the catch of fishermen in the waters of Lhok Paroy, Aceh Besar.

Abstract

This community service program aims to support efforts to rehabilitate coral reef ecosystems on Tuan Island through the application of appropriate technology based on modified structures. Coral reefs are important ecosystems that provide habitat for various marine species, but are currently being damaged by human activities and environmental changes. In this program, we develop and apply artificial structures that have been specifically modified to support optimal coral regeneration and growth. This approach involves environmentally friendly material technology and designs that mimic natural structures, so that they can integrate well into the marine ecosystem. Through collaboration with local communities and direct training in the field, this program is expected to provide a real contribution to accelerating coral reef recovery while increasing public awareness of the importance of maintaining the sustainability of marine ecosystems.

Abstract

Community Service (PKM) is one of the activities carried out by universities or educational institutions to make a positive contribution to society. PKM focuses on the application of science and technology owned by universities to help solve problems faced by the community, and improve social welfare. Community Service (PKM) is also an effort to realize a more efficient education, namely education that is directly experienced by lecturers and students, so lecturers and students do not only get material, but what is more important is that the theories obtained in the lecture bench must also be applied in the field, especially in the community environment of Gampong Alue Naga, Syiah Kuala District, Banda Aceh City.

Abstract

Rainfall and sea surface temperature (SST) are closely linked in the global climate system. Sea surface temperature affects rainfall through water evaporation, which plays an important role in cloud formation and the hydrological cycle. As sea surface temperature increases, water evaporation also increases, increasing the chance of rainfall in certain regions, especially in the tropics. Conversely, in regions with cooler sea surface temperatures, evaporation decreases, resulting in lower rainfall. This internship aims to gain a deeper understanding of sea surface temperature and rainfall in the western waters of Aceh. This activity was carried out in August-November 2024, which took place at the Class I Sultan Iskandar Muda Meteorological Station office in Kuta Baro, Aceh Besar. The method used is descriptive analysis method, which is by collecting SST data and also rainfall. SST data is processed using GrADS until it can visualize the map. While data from rainfall is taken from BMKG data and processed using Excel. The results of the internship show that there are several factors for rainfall besides SST, in each region including latitude, altitude, wind patterns (trade winds and monsoon), land and water distribution, and mountains and high mountains. These factors greatly influence the variation and type of rainfall. Annual rainfall variations are influenced by global atmospheric behavior, tropical cyclones and others. Warm ocean temperatures in April and May increase air humidity which favors the formation of rain. However, the fluctuating rainfall shows that SST is not the only factor affecting rainfall. In June, while the SST remained high, rainfall was drastically reduced. This suggests that other factors, such as latitude, wind patterns and global atmospheric influences, play a significant role in rainfall variations.
