Abstract

The guava plant, also known as Syzygium malaccense (L.) Merr. & Perry, is a member of the Myrtaceae family and is rich in antioxidants. The therapeutic properties of this plant have been known for centuries. When compared to other sections of the guava plant, the leaves have the largest concentration of flavonoids. The purpose of this research is to develop and assess the physical characteristics of five different formulations of a peel-off gel mask containing guava leaf extract (Syzygium malaccense (L.)) at concentrations of 0% (F0), 2% (F1), 4% (F2), 8% (F3), and 12% (F5). The recipe was found to be consistent in appearance, smell, and taste throughout the organoleptic testing. The results of tests on pH, spreadability, and viscosity were statistically different (p0.05). Results from 4°C viscosity tests showed a range of 3933-7167 Cps. pH values ranged from 5.08 to 6.48 and spreadability from 5.23 to 6.50 cm when tested at 4, 25, and 40 degrees Celsius, respectively. The drying time test at 25°C and 40°C revealed no significant variations (p>0.05), and the viscosity test yielded values between 4100 and 4933 Cps at both temperatures. Ten test subjects were not irritated by any of the tested formulations. Finally, F4 (0.8%) showed the finest physical quality when incorporated into a guava leaf extract peel-off gel mask.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death globally and can significantly impact an individual's health anxiety and quality of life. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between health anxiety and quality of life among cardiovascular patients at SMC Telogorejo hospital, Semarang. An observational analytic approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 50 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data on demographic characteristics, including age, gender, and educational background, were collected alongside assessments of health anxiety and quality of life. The majority of participants were aged 61-70 years (40.0%), predominantly male (62.0%), and had a bachelor's degree (50.0%). The findings indicated that 60.0% of respondents experienced moderate health anxiety, while 74.0% reported a moderate quality of life. Statistical analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between health anxiety and quality of life (r = -0.832, p < 0.05), suggesting that higher health anxiety is associated with a lower quality of life. The study highlights the need for addressing health anxiety to improve the well-being of cardiovascular patients. Further research is recommended to explore interventions and additional factors related to health anxiety and quality of life in cardiovascular patients across various healthcare settings.

Abstract

Background: Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) contain various chemical compounds, such as alkaloids, which can cause a bitter taste and exhibit activity against Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne or acne vulgaris. Objective: To determine the feasibility of papaya leaf ethanol extract as the main active ingredient in the formulation of a face spray and to assess the stability of different concentration variations in the ethanol extract face spray formulation. Methods: This study used an experimental method with varying concentrations of papaya leaf ethanol extract: F1 (8%), F2 (12%), and F3 (15%). Results: Organoleptic tests indicated that the formulations with ethanol extract concentrations of F1 (8%), F2 (12%), and F3 (15%) remained physically stable. The spray dispersion for each ethanol extract concentration—F1, F2, and F3—was 7 cm, 6 cm, and 6 cm, respectively, with a pH of 5. The findings demonstrated that the ethanol extract could be formulated as a face spray since it did not cause irritation, as confirmed by an irritation test on 10 respondents. Implications: The variations in papaya leaf ethanol extract concentrations—F1 (8%), F2 (12%), and F3 (15%)—met the established Indonesian National Standard (SNI).
