Abstract

This study aims to explore the integration of local cultures in the English language learning process at the high school level. In the context of globalization and the dominance of foreign cultures in English teaching materials, it is important to preserve local identity and enrich students' learning experiences through contextual and meaningful approaches. Using a qualitative approach, this study involved 42 respondents consisting of teachers and students from various regions in Cirebon. Data was collected through the Goggle Form open questionnaire. To understand the perception of experience, as well as teaching practices that involve elements of local culture. The results of this study show that the integration of local cultures can increase students' motivation to learn, strengthen their sense of cultural identity, and encourage the use of English in contexts relevant to their lives. Cultural elements such as folklore, traditional dances, special foods, local festivals are used creatively in teaching and learning activities. However, challenges also arise, such as a lack of resources, difficulties in designing culturally-based materials, and the need for in-depth teacher training. This study recommends the development of education policies that support the systematic inclusion of local culture in foreign language teaching, as well as strengthening the capacity of teachers in implementing culture-based approaches.

Abstract

This qualitative study investigates how cultural values are reflected in the short story Panggilan Tradisi, and how readers interpret these values through their own cultural lenses. Using in-depth interviews with eleven university students, the research explores participants’ perceptions of cultural indicators embedded in the story, such as traditional rituals, linguistic politeness, social harmony, and symbolic elements like wayang, gamelan, and blangkon. Findings show that the short story effectively conveys complex cultural values through concise narrative structure, character development, and setting. Readers’ interpretations were deeply influenced by their cultural backgrounds, prior experiences, and emotional proximity to the values represented. The results suggest that short stories can serve as powerful tools for fostering intercultural understanding and identity reflection. Additionally, the study underscores the significance of cultural analysis in literature as a means to promote empathy, tolerance, and a more critical awareness of societal values in a multicultural context.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the song Mangu by Fourtwnty as a symbolic medium that reflects the tension in interfaith and cultural relations in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach and narrative method, this study examines the relationship between song lyrics and the personal experience of an informant named Marhamah Khoirunnisa, who is in a relationship with a couple of different faiths and cultures. The findings show that Mangu's song is not only an expression of personal grief, but also contains a collective narrative of love that is hindered by religious boundaries, family pressure, and established social norms. Lyrics like "you there, I'm across from you" contain symbolic meanings that reflect emotional and structural distances that are difficult to bridge. This song proves to be a means of emotional catharsis and identity negotiation for individuals who are at the intersection of love and trust. Thus, Mangu is positioned as a cultural text that plays a role in representing the complexity of Indonesia's diversity through the medium of music.

Abstract

This research analyzes the dynamics of transcultural communication and language use in two multicultural Islamic educational institutions, Pondok Pesantren Buntet and Pondok Qur'an Birruna Putri, through a comparative study of their contrasting language policies and practices. Using a qualitative approach, this study reveals how different language policies fundamentally shape the intercultural communication and adaptation experiences of santri. At Pondok Pesantren Buntet, the dominance of the Cirebon regional language encourages organic and informal language adaptation, where linguistic misunderstandings turn into positive experiences that strengthen relationships and foster inclusivity based on traditional family values. In contrast, Pondok Qur'an Birruna Putri with its strict obligation to use Arabic and English, demonstrates accelerated foreign language acquisition and communication unification amidst regional diversity, turning linguistic challenges into a drive for understanding and building unity through a universal language. Overall, this study highlights that the diversity of santri backgrounds is both a strength and a challenge, and the leadership role of kyai and ustadz/ustadzah is crucial in instilling values of tolerance and unity that transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the management of transcultural communication in pesantren through diverse language strategies.

Abstract

The low level of digital adoption among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in tax administration and marketing, continues to hinder competitiveness. This community service program focuses on empowering MSMEs in Masale Sub-district, Makassar City through Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based tax literacy and the use of Augmented Reality (AR) for digital promotion. The activity aims to enhance MSME capacity through AI literacy training for tax management and the application of AR in digital marketing strategies. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), implemented through socialization, smart tax and AR content creation training, mentoring, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test. The results show a significant improvement, with the average accuracy increasing from 48.2% in the pre-test to 91.8% in the post-test. This program effectively strengthens MSMEs’ digital skills, improves operational efficiency, and expands AR-based promotional reach, all of which contribute to building a sustainable digital entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Abstract

To support stunting prevention efforts, a Community Service Program (PKM) was implemented under the title “The Effect of Nutrition Education on Mothers with Toddlers through Training on Nugget Processing as a Protein Source in Tanjung Garbus Village, Lubuk Pakam District, Deli Serdang Regency.” The program aimed to enhance mothers’ knowledge and skills in utilizing local food ingredients to produce nutritious, protein-rich products. The activity was conducted over two months using several stages: pre-test, education, training (cooking demonstration), post-test, and skill evaluation. Education sessions were delivered through lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice, involving 20 active participants. The results indicated an improvement in participants’ knowledge, with the average pre-test score increasing from 12.85 to 12.90 and the proportion of participants categorized as having “good” knowledge rising from 15% to 85%. Although attitudes toward nutritious food consumption showed a positive shift, the change was not statistically significant (p > 0.05), and behavioral practices remained relatively unchanged (p = 0.121). The nuggets produced during the training contained 9.33 g of protein and 144 kcal per 100 g, making them a viable alternative source of nutritious food for children. This program produced several outputs, including an educational booklet, activity video, and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

Abstract

This research aims to understand how the Tri Hita Karana teachings are applied in forming the character of Hindu students at the high school level. The values ​​of Tri Hita Karana include harmonious relationships between humans and God (parhyangan), humans and each other (pawongan), and humans and the environment (pabelasan). The research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach through observations and interviews at one of the high schools in Bali which has a Hindu religious education program. The research results show that applying the Tri Hita Karana values ​​can foster religious character, discipline, care for the environment and respect for others. The obstacles faced are the lack of consistency in implementation outside the school environment and the influence of modern lifestyles on student behavior. Therefore, collaboration between teachers, parents and the community is important in strengthening character education based on Hindu teachings.

Abstract

Community service activities with the theme "Education on Financial Recording and Tax Compliance for Cahaya Rizki Brick Factory MSMEs" have been implemented well and have had a positive impact on increasing financial literacy and tax awareness of MSME actors. This activity aims to help business actors understand the importance of regular financial recording and tax obligations in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws and regulations, especially PP No. 23 of 2018 concerning Income Tax on Income from Businesses Received or Obtained by Taxpayers with Certain Gross Turnover. Through activities in the form of training, daily cash book filling simulations, interactive discussions, and assistance in recording practices, participants gained a practical understanding of how to prepare simple financial reports and calculate 0.5% Final Income Tax. The results of the activity showed an increase in the ability of MSME actors to separate personal and business finances, record transactions systematically, and understand their tax obligations as business actors. In addition, this activity opens up opportunities for MSME actors to implement a more orderly and transparent financial system as a basis for business decision making.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of a guided inquiry learning model assisted by Augmented Reality on students’ conceptual understanding and learning interest regarding convex mirror material. Using a quasi-experimental quantitative design, two groups were compared: an experimental class using guided inquiry with Augmented Reality and a control class using direct instruction. Normality and homogeneity tests indicated that the data met parametric test assumptions (p > 0.05). The t-test showed a significant difference in conceptual understanding between the groups (p = 0.000). The experimental group achieved a higher N-Gain score (0.67, moderate) than the control group (0.25, low), with an effect size of 2.058, indicating a strong impact. Additionally, student interest responses reached 90% (very high category). Overall, guided inquiry learning assisted by Augmented Reality proved effective in improving students’ conceptual understanding and learning interest in physics.

Abstract

This program aimed to enhance the competencies of elementary school teachers in Depok City in developing interactive digital learning media using the Wordwall application. The activities were carried out in the form of training and direct mentoring, focusing on the creation and implementation of game-based learning media. The implementation methods included demonstration, hands-on practice, and guided assistance. The results of the program indicate that participants were enthusiastic and successfully created simple learning media using Wordwall. Based on observations throughout the activities, the teachers demonstrated improved skills and increased interest in integrating digital technology into the teaching and learning process. This program is expected to serve as an initial step in supporting digital learning transformation in elementary schools.
