Abstract

The Islamic world has a long history, from the prophet Adam to the present day, in line with the development of the times. This study aims to examine in depth the Problem Posing learning model and its application in Islamic Cultural History learning. The focus of the study covers four main aspects, namely: (i) understanding the meaning of the Problem Posing learning model, (ii) identifying the steps for applying the model, (iii) analyzing its strengths and weaknesses, and (iv) evaluating the relevance and effectiveness of applying the Problem Posing model in Islamic Cultural History lessons. The research used a qualitative method with a library research approach that relied on various scientific literature sources such as books, journals, and relevant research articles. The Problem Posing model is seen as a constructivist approach that encourages students to actively think, ask questions, and find solutions to problems that are posed or discovered by themselves. The results of the study show that this model is able to increase student participation and understanding in Islamic Cultural History learning, although its application requires teachers to be prepared in designing appropriate learning scenarios and responding flexibly to classroom dynamics. Thus, the Problem Posing model can be an effective alternative in creating an interactive and meaningful learning process in Islamic Cultural History classes.

Abstract

The problem identified in this study is the low learning outcomes of sixth-grade students in Islamic Religious Education, specifically in the subject of prayer and its implementation. One of the causes is the lack of variety in the teaching strategies used by teachers, which results in students becoming less enthusiastic, bored, and unmotivated to actively participate in learning, leading to low learning outcomes. Therefore, there is a need for new innovations in the form of applying the latest learning strategies to improve student learning outcomes. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of Islamic Religious Education learning and contribute to the development of Islamic Religious Education teachers' competence in formulating learning strategies and models in the application of learning media. This study used a quantitative experimental method in the form of a one-group pre-test-post-test only, which compares the test results before treatment (pre-test) with the test results after treatment (post-test). Abstract

Contemporary Islamic education faces a serious dichotomy due to the dominance of modern learning models that focus solely on academic intelligence, thereby neglecting spiritual, emotional, and social intelligence. This condition is contrary to the true purpose of Islamic education, which is oriented towards the development of a complete person (Insan Kamil). This study aims to analyze the urgency of integrating modern pedagogy with the fundamental values of the Quran and Hadith in order to formulate a holistic learning approach. Using the library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach, this study conducts a conceptual synthesis and reviews the literature on integrative pedagogy. The analytical framework is reinforced by Amin Abdullah's concept of interconnection integration and Ismail Raji Al Faruqi's idea of Islamization of knowledge, which offer a philosophical basis for eliminating dichotomy. The results of the study show that contextualizing the values of the Quran and Hadith can strengthen the spiritual, moral, emotional, and social intelligence of students by developing the aspects of Ar Ruh, Al Qalb, Al Nafs, and Al Aql. It also improves critical thinking and social awareness. Modern learning models such as Problem Based Learning, Project Based Learning, Flipped Classroom, and Gamification become effective and religiously meaningful through this integration. The main contribution of this research is to offer a comprehensive conceptual framework for the development of an integrative Islam-based model that not only emphasizes cognitive mastery but also fosters a strong religious character. This integration is a strategic path towards a comprehensive vision of Islamic education.

Abstract

The rapid integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in English Language Teaching (ELT) highlights the necessity for instructional media that are contextually relevant to diverse educational settings, including Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). This study aims to systematically review existing empirical research focusing on the design and implementation of ICT-based instructional media for ELT in pesantren environments, particularly those adopting instructional frameworks such as ADDIE and TPACK. A systematic literature review method was employed following the PRISMA protocol, examining 25 SINTA 4 indexed articles published between 2019–2025. Data extraction and thematic analysis were conducted to categorize findings based on types of media developed, pedagogical frameworks applied, student learning outcomes, and contextual challenges encountered in pesantren settings. The results reveal that most studies successfully implemented ICT-based media such as mobile learning applications, digital games, and multimedia modules, which demonstrated positive impacts on students’ English proficiency, motivation, and autonomous learning. However, challenges remain, including limited digital infrastructure, teacher ICT competence, and the need for alignment between technological tools and Islamic cultural values. This review suggests that future research should enhance technology acceptance models among pesantren educators and strengthen ICT professional development to optimize ELT innovation in Islamic boarding schools. The study contributes both theoretically and practically by providing updated insights and identifying research gaps in ICT-based media design within pesantren contexts.

Abstract

English Language Teaching (ELT) in many global and Indonesian contexts has long been dominated by technical–instrumental orientations, including grammar instruction, standardized test preparation, and utilitarian communicative competence for academic and economic mobility. These practices reduce language to a functional skill and overlook its deeper humanistic, moral, and philosophical dimensions. This conceptual article examines ELT through the philosophical notion of humans as language-making beings individuals who construct meaning, identity, and social reality through language. Drawing on humanistic educational philosophy, perspectives on linguistic rights, Maturana’s theory of language and emotion, and contemporary critiques of exam-oriented ELT, the article argues that language education should serve as a process of humanization rather than technical training. The discussion highlights the need to reorient ELT toward moral imagination, hope, advocacy, and global citizenship. The article also situates these issues in the Indonesian ELT landscape, where exam-driven and native-speaker–oriented practices remain dominant, despite growing calls for multilingual justice. Ultimately, this paper proposes a conceptual framework for humanistic ELT that affirms learners’ identities, supports ethical awareness, and promotes English as a medium for constructing meaningful social participation.
