Abstract

Stunting remains a public health problem in Indonesia, especially in rural areas. Breastfeeding practices and infectious diseases play an important role in child growth. This study aims to analyse the relationship between breastfeeding practices and infectious disease history with stunting in children aged 12–59 months in Pesawaran District. This study used a case-control design with 210 respondents (105 stunted, 105 not stunted) selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews and anthropometric measurements according to WHO standards. Analysis was performed using chi-square tests and multiple logistic regression. There was a significant relationship between breastfeeding practices and history of infectious diseases with the incidence of stunting (p0.05). Children who did not receive exclusive breastfeeding had a two times higher risk of stunting (AOR=2.10; 95% CI: 1.13–3.88). Children without a history of acute respiratory infections had a lower risk of stunting (AOR=0.48; 95% CI: 0.26–0.88). Exclusive breastfeeding and prevention of infectious diseases are important factors in preventing stunting. Efforts to educate on breastfeeding, improve clean and healthy living behaviours, and prevent infections need to be strengthened at the family and community levels.

Abstract

Adolescent girls are at high risk of experiencing vaginal discharge. Efforts that can be made to overcome the problem of vaginal discharge in adolescent girls are through vaginal hygiene education and also the provision of red betel leaf decoction. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of vaginal hygiene education and red betel leaf decoction on the management of vaginal discharge in adolescent girls at the Harapan Bunda Sejahtera Clinic, Bekasi Regency in 2024. The method used was a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest. The population of adolescent girls with vaginal discharge, a sample of 45 people, purposive sampling technique, statistical test paired t test. The study showed that the incidence of vaginal discharge in adolescent girls before being given vaginal hygiene education and red betel leaf decoction was found that all 45 people (100%) experienced vaginal discharge, and after being given vaginal hygiene education and red betel leaf decoction, the majority did not experience vaginal discharge, 42 people (93.3%). There was effectiveness of vaginal hygiene education and red betel leaf decoction on the management of vaginal discharge with a p-value of 0.001. Red betel leaf decoction can treat vaginal discharge (fluor albus) because it contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and alkaloids, which act as antiseptics and anti-inflammatories, suppressing bacterial and fungal growth and relieving itching, irritation, and discomfort. Vaginal hygiene education and red betel leaf decoction are effective treatments for vaginal discharge in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Injectable contraception is a hormonal contraceptive method administered through injection and consists of two types, namely DMPA (Depo Medroxy Progesterone Acetate) and combination. Monitoring and management of data on participants in the 3-month injectable contraception program is carried out through the SIMP KS3B application so that health workers can provide more targeted services. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of using the SIMP KS3B application in improving the quality of family planning services in the working area of the Denkesyah Garut Clinic. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with a posttest nonequivalent control group. The research population consisted of midwives in the working area of the Denkesyah Clinic, with purposive sampling technique. Univariate data analysis used frequency distribution, while bivariate analysis used the Mann Whitney test and multivariate analysis used logistic regression. The study was conducted from December 30, 2024, to January 17, 2025. The results showed that the dimensions of ease, usefulness, interest, and actual use had a value of ρ = 0.000. Multivariate analysis showed that the dimension of actual use was the most influential with a beta coefficient value of 2.310 (ρ = 0.000). In conclusion, the SIMP KS3B application is more effective than manual family planning records in improving the quality of family planning services. It is recommended that this application be recommended by the Health Office as a medium for recording and reporting family planning services.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major global health challenge, with a worldwide prevalence of 21.9% among children under five. The Southeast Asian region contributes more than one-quarter of all stunting cases globally. This condition affects not only the growth and development of children but also increases morbidity and mortality rates, which in turn influence national productivity and economic outcomes in the future. Maternal risk factors play a critical role, contributing more than 50% to a child’s growth. This study aims to identify maternal risk factors associated with stunting in Southeast Asia. Data were retrieved from PubMed, Springer, and ProQuest using the keywords “children,” “stunting,” “maternal risk factors,” and “Southeast Asia.” Of the 768 articles identified, only 10 met the inclusion criteria. Most studies were conducted in Indonesia, followed by the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Maternal factors associated with stunting include infections during pregnancy, nutritional status, maternal height, educational level, hygiene practices, supplement intake during pregnancy, maternal age, employment status, MUAC, dietary diversity during pregnancy, and maternal stress.

Abstract

The adolescent phase is nutritionally vulnerable phase because it requires more energy and nutrients for growth and development. Unbalanced nutrient consumption can lead to nutritional deficiencies. Adolescent girls with irregular eating patterns, having food restrictions, often buying snacks because they follow friends, often skipping breakfast, eating fast food, and junk food can cause anemia. Consumption habits that inhibit iron absorption will affect hemoglobin levels. Efforts to prevent anemia in adolescent girls include having a healthy lifestyle and providing iron tablet supplements taken regularly. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between adherence to iron tablet consumption and a healthy diet with anemia status in adolescent girls. The method used in this study was analytical research with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 female adolescents at SMPN 1 Banjarmangu. The sampling technique used was cluster sampling. The statistical test used was correlation with chi-square. The results showed a relationship between adherence to iron tablet consumption and anemia status (p-value 0.00), and there was no relationship between a healthy diet and anemia status (p-value 0.279).

Abstract

Sectio Caesarea (SC) is a surgical procedure to remove a baby from the mother's uterus. SC wound infection is a complication that can increase morbidity and mortality rates. Several factors influence SC wound healing. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence SC wound healing at Bendan Hospital. This study used descriptive analytic design through cross-sectional approach by using chi-square test and logistic regression test. The population of this study were all postpartum mothers from November 17 - December 20, 2023, with a total sampling technique to obtain a sample of 70 respondents. The results of bivariate analysis showed there was a relationship between age (ρ=0.015), personal hygiene (ρ=0.015), anemia status (ρ=0.023), and fulfillment of nutrition (ρ=0.025). There was no association between BMI (ρ=0.579) and wound care knowledge (ρ=0.634). Multivariate analysis showed nutritional fulfillment had a value of ρ=0.042 and OR: 3,862. So the factor that most influences SC wound healing at Bendan Hospital is the fulfillment of nutrition. It is expected that health workers can provide education about nutrition to support SC wound healing to reduce SC wound infection.

Abstract

HIV and AIDS continue to represent substantial public health challenges among marginalized populations, particularly among street-connected adolescent girls who experience limited access to comprehensive reproductive health education and are exposed to adverse socio-economic conditions. This study sought to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and preventive actions of HIV/AIDS among female teenagers residing in the streets of Bekasi Regency. A sequential explanatory design with a mixed-methods approach was implemented. During the quantitative phase, 30 people were recruited using purposive and snowball sampling approaches. The qualitative phase comprised in-depth interviews with ten important informants to help contextualize the quantitative findings. The majority of respondents were in late adolescence (over 15 years old) (60%), had completed junior secondary education (50%), and worked in informal street jobs, mostly as street performers (57%). A mere 17% of interviewees stated that they had previously received HIV/AIDS counseling. Approximately 47% of respondents had a moderate grasp of HIV/AIDS, but more than 52.5% had negative views. Furthermore, the majority (55%) reported participating in preventative measures to a considerable extent. Qualitative findings revealed persistent misconceptions about HIV transmission channels, stigmatizing views toward HIV patients, and widespread feelings of fear and humiliation about HIV testing and participation in educational activities. In Bekasi Regency, street-involved adolescent females shown a sufficient level of awareness and participated in certain preventive actions; yet, unfavorable attitudes concerning HIV/AIDS persisted. These findings underscore the urgent need for integrated, community-based, and youth-centered HIV prevention interventions that explicitly address stigma reduction and promote the adoption of protective behaviors.

Abstract

The exclusive breastfeeding program represents a strategic government effort to strengthen the quality of human resources. One effective non-pharmacological approach to addressing this issue is lactation massage, which stimulates milk production and supports the breastfeeding process. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of lactation massage educational videos compared with printed leaflets in improving husbands’ knowledge and roles in supporting successful breastfeeding at the Ciangsana Bogor Independent Midwife Practice in 2025. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was employed. The study involved 74 husbands of postpartum breastfeeding mothers who accompanied their wives during February–March 2025. Husbands’ knowledge and roles were assessed using structured questionnaires administered prior to the intervention and seven days afterward. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test, while the level of effectiveness was determined through gain score analysis. The findings revealed significant differences in both knowledge and roles between husbands who received lactation massage educational videos and those who received printed leaflets. The effectiveness analysis demonstrated that educational videos produced greater improvements, with a 57% increase in knowledge and a 56% increase in husbands’ roles, both classified as moderately effective. In conclusion, lactation massage educational videos are more effective than printed leaflets in strengthening husbands’ knowledge and roles in supporting breastfeeding success. The use of engaging and visually rich educational media may serve as a valuable strategy to foster meaningful husband participation and promote optimal breastfeeding outcomes.

Abstract

Tegal City Mayor Regulation No. 82 of 2023 concerning Behavioral and Social Change Strategies in Accelerating Stunting Reduction in Tegal City, explains that the target coverage of Exclusive Breastfeeding is 68% by 2024. The failure of the implementation of Exclusive Breastfeeding often occurs because the mother's breast milk has not come out in the early period after delivery, this is the reason for the mother to provide formula milk. Several risk factors that can slow the onset of lactation are anxiety, nutritional status, age, parity, type of delivery, birth weight, and early initiation of breastfeeding. Hypnopressure is a relaxation technique to help smooth the breastfeeding process. How to insert positive affirmations that help the breastfeeding process when the mother is relaxed or very concentrated on something. The purpose of this study is to Analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of breastfeeding with hypnopressure on lactation onset in the Tegal City Community Health Center Area. The research method used was pre-experimental, with a control group and intervention. The sampling technique was accidental sampling with 40 respondents. The results of the Mann Whitney test show that the asymp.sig value (2-tailed) is 0.004, which is smaller than the probability value of 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that "Ha is accepted", thus it can be said that breastfeeding with hypnopressure is effective for the onset of lactation.

Abstract

Poor breast milk production is the main reason why mothers do not breastfeed early on, as they feel unable to meet their babies' needs and support adequate weight gain. One effective way to increase breast milk production is by caring for the breasts, maintaining hygiene, and performing oxytocin massage. This study aims to determine the effect of oxytocin massage and breast care on the smooth flow of breast milk in postpartum mothers at the PP Hospital in Jakarta. The research method is descriptive analytical using an experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest design, in which measurements of the smooth flow of breast milk production are carried out using oxytocin massage and breast care. Data collection was conducted from December 2024 to April 2025 with a total sample size of 60 respondents using primary data and the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality, as well as hypothesis analysis using the Mann-Whitney test. Research results: The Mann-Whitney statistical test yielded a p-value of 0.000 α 0.05. Conclusion: Oxytocin massage and breast care have an effect on breast milk production in postpartum mothers in the Maternity Ward at PP Hospital Jakarta. Recommendation: It is hoped that PP Hospital Jakarta can expand the knowledge of health workers in an effort to increase mothers' understanding of the effect of oxytocin massage and breast care on breast milk production.
