Abstract

Consumption constitutes a larger part of GDP and contributes immensely in enhancing economic growth and development of a country. This study examines the influence of macroeconomic factors on household consumption expenditure in the Gambia. To achieve our objective, we employ ARDL estimation method with Bounds tests to analyze our study using secondary times series data collected from World Bank’s World Development Indicators database from 2000 to 2020. The findings reveal that GDP, inflation, direct credit to private sector, remittances and population all have significant effect on household consumption expenditure in the short run because their p values are less than 0.05 at 5% level of significance. For the long run effect, the CointEq (-1)* is negative and statistically significant. It means that the short run is adjusted with high speed in the run approximatively 108%. Therefore, GDP, inflation, direct credit to private sector, inflation, remittances and population are all significantly affecting household consumption in the long run. Thus, the study recommends that Government of the Gambia to use a mix macroeconomic policy method to stimulate and increase household consumption expenditure in order to help in achieving economic growth and development. The study further recommends future researchers to include other macroeconomic variables like unemployment and interest rate.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between employee compensation, working facilities, and local tax revenue generation in East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. Utilizing panel data multiple linear regression analysis, the research analyzes financial reports from ten Regencies and Cities (Balikpapan, Samarinda, Bontang, Kutai Timur, Kutai Barat, Kutai Kartanegara, Penajam Paser Utara, Berau, Mahakam Ulu, and Paser) over the period of 2017-2023. Employee compensation, represented by growth of employee expenditures (PBP), captures the year-to-year increase in personnel costs. Working facilities, represented by growth of goods and service expenditures (PBBJ), reflect the year-to-year change in spending on operational resources. The findings reveal a positive association between both growth in employee expenditures and growth in goods and services expenditures with local tax revenue, but these relationships are not statistically significant. This suggests that factors beyond employee compensation and working facilities likely play a more prominent role in driving regional tax revenue growth.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) in improving the fitness of basketball players. Employing a literature review methodology, this study explores recent findings related to the application of HIIT in the context of basketball sports. The literature analysis involves searching and screening various scientific articles covering aspects such as improved cardiorespiratory fitness, muscle strength, time efficiency, and safety considerations. The results indicate that HIIT holds significant potential in enhancing the cardiorespiratory fitness of basketball players, with positive effects on aerobic capacity and cardiorespiratory endurance. Furthermore, HIIT has also shown a positive impact on increasing muscle strength and endurance. The effectiveness of HIIT can be observed in its time efficiency, as this high-intensity training program can deliver significant results in a shorter time compared to conventional training methods. However, the study also highlights the importance of considering the risks and safety considerations in implementing HIIT, emphasizing the need for an individualized approach and careful monitoring. Thus, this research provides a solid foundation for the development of more focused and effective training programs to enhance the performance of basketball players. The practical implications of these findings can assist coaches and fitness professionals in designing exercise programs tailored to the specific needs of basketball players, taking into account cardiorespiratory aspects, muscle strength, time efficiency, and safety.

Abstract

At the beginning of 2020, the global COVID-19 pandemic crisis occurred which had an impact on the batik industry in Laweyan Village, namely a decline in sales of up to 60% and the threat of bankruptcy. The formulation of the research problem is what is the work ethic of women Laweyan batik craftsmen during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. There are two sampling techniques used in this research, namely snowball sampling which is used to look for informants for women craftsmen through key informants from the management of the Laweyan Batik Village Development Forum (FPKBL), and purposive sampling is used to find out whether the informant knows the data being sought. The research results found that women Batik Laweyan craftsmen had a work ethic during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data was obtained through 10 dimensions of work ethic theory, which shows that female Laweyan batik craftsmen still had a work ethic when the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. This research concludes that Laweyan Batik craftsmen still have a work ethic even though they are experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
