Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the role of socialisation in promoting community participation in the maintenance and development of Kalibaru village infrastructure. A qualitative and case study approach was used to explore effective socialisation strategies in the context of rural infrastructure development in Indonesia, with a focus on Kalibaru village. The results of this activity show that socialisation programmes relevant to local needs and with a deep understanding of the community context can increase the active participation of the community in maintaining and developing Kalibaru village infrastructure. Factors such as the involvement of village officials, community awareness, and availability of resources also play an important role in the success of the socialisation programme. The recommendations include increasing community participation through more targeted and measurable socialisation strategies. Additionally, it is important to establish synergy between the community and the government in sustainable village development efforts.

Abstract

Mangrove degradation that occurs in various regions of Southeast Sulawesi, especially in Mawasangka sub-district, Central Buton Regency, is caused by several factors, one of which is the conversion of mangroves into ponds. Real action is needed in mangrove rehabilitation efforts. Some concrete actions in mangrove rehabilitation efforts include species recognition activities as well as mangrove nurseries, which can later be used as a source of seeds for mangrove planting activities. This activity aims to provide understanding to students of the Marine Science and Fisheries Science Study Program regarding the types of mangroves, seed selection, and how to seed mangroves. The methods used in carrying out this activity were a survey of mangrove locations, introduction of mangrove species, selection of seeds, nurseries, and evaluation of activities. A mangrove location survey was carried out to inspect mangrove areas that were open due to conversion into ponds. Species introduction is carried out directly in the mangrove area around the pond. Seed selection is carried out on mangrove propagules that meet the requirements as a seed source. Mangrove seeding is carried out on previously selected mangrove species. Meanwhile, evaluations are carried out 30 days after planting, to see the level of success of mangrove seedlings in growing. The results obtained were that there were 16 types of mangroves, with 4 types of mangroves used as seed sources, namely R. apiculata, R. mucronata, C. tagal, and B. gymnorrhiza. There are a total of 1200 mangrove seedlings that have successfully grown, with a growth success rate of 100%. Apart from that, the participants' capacity in the aspect of introducing types of mangroves, how to seed several types of mangroves, and how to select good seeds has increased. Meanwhile, the participants had a very good understanding of the function and role of mangroves for the environment and society.

Abstract

Morosi Village located in Konawe Regency is one of the areas in which there is a nickel processing company. The nickel processing produces solid waste, one of which is nickel slag. The amount of nickel slag is accumulating day by day, because each process of refining one ton of nickel product produces 50 times the solid waste, equivalent to 50 tons. So that from the results of quite a lot of waste, research was carried out to use solid waste as a concrete forming material, either as coarse and fine aggregate, or as a cement mixture. Government Regulation No. 101 of 2014 classifies nickel slag as B3 waste hazard category 2 with waste code B403. This means that nickel slag is a waste that has a delayed effect, and has an indirect impact on humans and the environment. Meanwhile, at the end of 2019, the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) concerning the choice of nickel slag material from electric furnaces. This SNI was also prepared by the Ministry of Industry to support the development of nickel slag standards and as a solution for nickel slag management. The existence of SNI is also intended as a reference to optimize the use of nickel slag as aggregate, substitute for natural aggregate and other uses. Some examples of products made from nickel slag include bricks, precast and ready-to-print concrete, road base and field, soil improvers, growing media and fertilizers, mortar and cement slag, composite portland cement, and cement geopolymers. To accommodate the use of nickel slag, assistance is needed to the community, especially in Morosi Village to be able to process with appropriate, effective and efficient technology in accordance with its physical characteristics and chemical characteristics. This will be an alternative to reduce the amount of nickel slag that can pollute the environment, in addition to increasing people's income.

Abstract

This community service activity is a training activity on the manufacture of health and food products that have the opportunity to improve the community's economy as well as providing education on the use of moringa leaves as face masks and papaya fruit as an analog tomato sauce to mothers in Tondonggeu Village, Nambo District, Kendari City. Tomato sauce is generally made from tomato raw materials, but it can also be made from other ingredients so it is called an analog tomato sauce. Tomato sauce is generally made from tomato raw materials, but it can also be made from other ingredients so it is called an analog tomato sauce. Papaya as a substitute for tomatoes in making analog tomato sauce can be done because papaya has characteristics like tomatoes, namely color, organic acid content, and viscosity, even papaya has a higher vitamin C level than tomatoes.  Moringa leaves contain many vitamins, including vitamin A, vitamin C, amino acids and antioxidants such as flavonoids, quercetin and zeatin which function to maintain dry skin hydration and prevent the appearance of wrinkles, because it helps fight free radicals, so it is very good to be used as a cosmetic ingredient in the form of a face mask. Participants in this training involved residents of Tondonggeu village, Thematic KKN students and a team of accompanying lecturers from the Biotechnology and Biology study program of FMIPA Halu Oleo University. The training methods used are lectures, demonstrations and discussions. The lecture method was carried out with the aim of providing information and knowledge about moringa masks and analog ketchup. The demonstration aims to provide skills to mothers through the practice of directly processing moringa leaves into masks and papaya fruits into analog tomato sauce while the discussion is intended to show the activeness and understanding of the community during the training process. The results of the training on making masks and analog tomato sauce carried out by mothers are in the good category with an average success of 85%, their response to the implementation of the training is very good as seen from the enthusiasm of the residents to participate in the activity from the beginning to the end. This training activity can increase knowledge and improve mothers' skills in producing moringa masks and papaya analogue tomato sauce.

Abstract

This service program aims to provide an alternative feed for local chickens (Gallus domesticus) with high protein to the Latompe farming community. The alternative feed are maggots which are the larvae of Black Soldier  Flies (Hermetia illucens). It is hoped that the chicken farmers in Latompe village will no longer only depend on carbohydrate-based feed such as corn to obtain maximum chicken growth. To transfer that new technology, the farmer's educators managed a mass socialization and made presentation slides, leaflets, and on-site practice followed by periodic assistance. As a result, the maggot extension program has been running well and several breeders have been able to cultivate maggots for their chickens' feed. It is hoped that this program can be implemented sustainably to obtain maximum production of local chickens.
