Abstract

This study aims to enhance students’ scientific literacy and interest in learning science (IPA) among elementary school students through contextual learning connected to everyday life. Scientific literacy refers to students’ ability to understand scientific concepts and apply them in real-life contexts, enabling them not only to memorize content but also to relate it to their experiences and surrounding situations. The research employed observation, interviews, and questionnaires as data collection instruments. The study subjects were 24 fifth-grade students (Class 5A) from a public elementary school. Interviews were conducted with the homeroom teacher to identify the teaching approaches used, while questionnaires were distributed to students to assess their level of understanding and interest in science learning. By linking science learning to daily life, it is expected that students will gain a more functional understanding of scientific concepts and develop a greater interest in science subjects.

Abstract

Multi-grade Learning (PKR) is a learning model that is often applied in the 3T (underdeveloped, frontier and outermost) areas as a solution to the limited number of educators. However, implementing this model presents complex challenges that require high adaptive skills from teachers. This article discusses the importance of developing change coping skills for teachers in the context of MGT, including changes in curriculum, education policy, developments in information and communication technology (ICT), and the diverse learning needs of students. PKR teachers are required to be flexible in their learning strategies, classroom management and effective use of simple technology. In addition, teachers also need to develop pedagogical, managerial, evaluative and collaborative competencies to create inclusive and meaningful learning. With strong adaptive skills, PKR teachers are not only able to survive the fluctuating learning dynamics, but also have a significant positive impact on the quality of student education across levels. This article confirms that improving teacher capacity through training and policy support is the main foundation for optimizing learning in multi-grade classrooms.

Abstract

Multi-grade learning is one of the solutions implemented in primary schools, especially in remote, rural and 3T (frontier, outermost, underdeveloped) areas, due to limited teaching staff and infrastructure. In practice, this learning presents its own challenges, both for teachers and students. However, with the right strategies and approaches, multi-grade learning can be effective and provide space for the growth of creativity, independence and cooperation between students across classes. This article aims to examine the effective implementation of multi-grade learning through a qualitative approach with a literature study method. Data are obtained from various literature sources, such as books, scientific journals, and relevant previous research results. The results show that multi-grade learning is effective in limited areas when supported by teacher competence, appropriate learning media, and thematic and collaborative strategies. Approaches such as peer tutoring and integration of local values improve student engagement and learning outcomes.

Abstract

The implementation of multi-grade learning strategies is an alternative solution to overcome the limited number of teachers in remote areas. This strategy requires teachers to manage two or more grade levels in the same space and time. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing multi-grade learning strategies through an integrated thematic approach and the use of local-based learning media. The results show that teachers who use flexible lesson planning, heterogeneous grouping of students, and the use of active learning methods are able to increase student engagement and more equitable learning outcomes between grade levels.

Abstract

This study examines strategies for developing students’ critical thinking skills in multigrade classrooms through a literature review method. Findings reveal that effective multigrade teaching hinges on creative approaches—including Problem Based Learning (PBL), cross-grade collaboration, visual media utilization, task differentiation, higher-order thinking (HOT) questions, and critical reflection—with the teacher’s facilitative role being pivotal in fostering an inclusive learning environment. Key challenges such as age diversity, varied academic abilities, and resource constraints are addressable through teacher training and adaptive instructional design. The study culminates in practical guidelines for teachers to efficiently manage multigrade settings while nurturing critical thinking skills centered on analysis, evaluation, and decision-making.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that many grade II students at SDN Dian Andalas have difficulty learning math. The purpose of this research is to find out the causes of students having difficulty learning math, the factors that influence math learning difficulties, and the efforts made to overcome math learning difficulties. This research uses qualitative data obtained through direct interview techniques with the research sample. The results showed that 75% of grade II students at SDN Dian Adalas had difficulty learning mathematics, especially understanding the basic concepts of calculation operations. Math learning difficulties are caused by internal factors and external factors. Efforts made by students to overcome difficulties are by independent learning, asking teachers, asking parents for help, studying in groups and attending tutoring

Abstract

Cognitive development in early childhood, especially 5 years of age, is an important foundation in forming logical and symbolic thinking skills. Although some children are able to recognize and name various types of plants in their environment, there is still variation in understanding the physical characteristics of plants and their habitats. This study aims to describe the cognitive abilities of 5-year-old children in identifying plant types, recognizing where they grow, and understanding the physical characteristics of plants through a checklist-based assessment approach. The study used a descriptive quantitative method with seven children from five kindergartens in Medan City as subjects. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews, and documentation of children's activities during the learning process. The results of the study showed that most children, namely 85.71%, were in the "Very Well Developed" category. Children were able to group plants based on their type and where they grow, and recognize plant parts such as roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. These findings indicate that the use of checklist-based observation assessment instruments is effective in mapping children's cognitive development more objectively and contextually. This study contributes to the development of early childhood education learning strategies that are more appropriate to children's developmental stages and based on real experiences.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out the significant effect of Small Group Work learning method toward student social science learning achievement at State Islamic Junior High School 8 Kampar. This research was instigated with the low student learning achievement, including the lack of student knowledge of Social Science learning material and the lack of student ability to communicate in group discussions. Quantitative method was used in this research with quasi-experimental approach. All the seventh-grade students were the population of this research, and they were 132 students. While the samples consisted of 66 students, they were the seventh-grade students of classes 1 and 2, and they were selected with purposive sampling technique. Test, observation, and documentation were used to collect data. Based on the research findings and data analyses, there was a significant effect of Small Group Work learning method toward student social science learning achievement at State Islamic Junior High School 8 Kampar. It could be identified from the experimental posttest mean score 78.33 and the control posttest mean score 69.85. Based on the independent sample t-test results, tobserved was higher than ttable (6.847>1.669), so it could be concluded that Ha was accepted, and H0 was rejected. The effect size test results showed that the score was 0.69, so there was a moderate effect of Small Group Work learning method toward student social science learning achievement at State Islamic Junior High School 8 Kampar.

Abstract

The term "Profession" originates from the Latin word Professus, meaning a public declaration to carry out a specific duty. It refers to an occupation that requires expertise, advanced education, and a high level of moral and social responsibility. According to the Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), a profession is a field of work based on education and professional integrity. Teaching, as a profession, holds a strategic role within the education system, where teachers serve as character educators and learning facilitators responsible for the intellectual and moral development of students. Teachers are required to possess pedagogical, professional, social, and personal competencies as mandated by Law No. 14 of 2005. The concept of Society 5.0, introduced by Japan, emphasizes the integration of technology with human values. In the context of education, it demands a transformation of the learning system and the role of teachers. Teachers are expected to master technology and use it to shape students' character and creativity. This study uses a literature review approach to analyze the rights and responsibilities of teachers in the era of Society 5.0 . The findings show that teachers have professional, economic, academic, technological, social, and participatory rights. They also face growing responsibilities, such as enhancing digital competencies, innovating teaching methods, strengthening character education, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support holistic education.
