Abstract

This study aims to analyze the policies implemented by the Principal of SDI Bustanu Usyuqil Qur'an (BUQ) Lesmana Ajibarang Banyumas in improving the quality of learning based on Tahfidz Al-Qur'an. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach, focusing on identifying the influence of policies on curriculum development, human resource management, and evaluation systems, which contribute to improving learning outcomes of Tahfidz Al-Qur'an. Data were obtained through interviews with principals, teachers, staff, and students, as well as observation of learning and extracurricular activities and analysis of school documents and official reports. The results were thematically analyzed to identify key themes related to the principal's policy, leadership, and the quality of Tahfidz learning. The research findings show that the policy implemented by the principal focuses on developing a curriculum that suits students' needs and structured Tahfidz learning. The implementation of this policy involves applying the Qiraati method for Tahfidz learning, as well as strict supervision of the program implementation. In addition, periodic evaluations are conducted to ensure the quality of learning and identify areas for improvement. Supervision by the principal and teachers, as well as regular evaluation of learning outcomes, have proven effective in supporting the success of the tahfidz program at SDI BUQ. Overall, SDI BUQ's principal's policy, which is based on needs analysis, structured management, and continuous evaluation, can improve the quality of learning and students' mastery of memorizing the Qur'an. This research makes an essential contribution to the understanding of education policy implementation in Islamic elementary schools, especially in learning Tahfidz Al-Qur'an, and can be a reference for other Islamic schools in designing similar policies.

Abstract

This study discusses Ignác Goldziher's criticism of qirā'āt (variations in Qur'anic recitation) and its implications for Islamic education. Orientalist criticism, including Goldziher's view, emphasises that the diversity of qirā'āt is due to the weakness of early Arabic orthography that lacks dots and harakat, so it is considered a product of human improvisation, not a divine provision. This criticism raises doubts about the authenticity of the Qur'an and has a significant impact on the younger generation of Muslims if not responded to with scientific arguments. This study aims to analyse 'Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Qāḍī's thoughts as a critical response to Goldziher's views, as well as explore its implications in strengthening the teaching of qirā'āt in Islamic educational institutions. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach. Primary data is taken from Goldziher's Madhāhib al-Tafsīr al-Islāmī and al-Qirā'āt fī Naẓr al-Mushtashriqīn wa al-Mulḥidīn by 'Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Qāḍī, as well as other supporting literature. The results show that Goldziher's critique is ahistorical and ignores the talaqqī system and mutawātir sanad in the Islamic tradition. In contrast, al-Qāḍī asserts that the variations in qirā'āt are varied, not contradictory, and have wisdom in facilitating the understanding of the Qur'an. This study recommends integrating traditional and critical academic approaches into the Islamic education curriculum. The traditional approach emphasises memorisation and talaqqī, while the critical approach equips students with scientific abilities to respond to orientalist criticism. This research makes a significant contribution in filling the gap of previous descriptive research and offering practical solutions for strengthening qirā'āt education in facing the challenges of orientalist thought.

Abstract

This research examines the strategic role of Islamic educational institutions in campaigning for religious moderation on social media to reduce religious fanaticism and intolerance in the digital age. This research uses a qualitative approach to analyse data from literature and content on social media platforms such as Facebook and YouTube. The main focus of the study is the dynamics of discussions related to religious issues, including differences in determining the beginning of Ramadan, which often trigger conflicts between groups. Data were analysed thematically to describe narrative patterns, interactions, and potential conflicts and evaluate the role of Islamic education institutions in promoting social harmony through religious moderation. The results showed that social media became a conflict arena dominated by verbal attacks and intolerant behaviour, exacerbated by the lack of social media ethics. In this context, pesantren and madrasah have a key role as agents of social change through formal education and digital campaigns. This research confirms that integrating technology-based education, such as digital literacy training and the production of educational content based on religious moderation, can help create more inclusive and tolerant discussion spaces. Cooperation between academic institutions, government and society is also needed to expand the reach of religious moderation campaigns and minimise social polarisation. This research makes a theoretical contribution by strengthening the literature on the role of education in shaping a tolerant digital ecosystem while offering a practical approach for educational institutions in facing digital challenges. As a recommendation, the values of religious moderation need to be used as a foundation in Islamic education to create sustainable social harmony, both in the real world and in the digital world. The findings open up opportunities for further research to develop innovative strategies to strengthen religious moderation in the digital era.

Abstract

This study employs a library research method to examine the role of the Tadris Journal in promoting religious moderation in Islamic education at IAIN Madura. Using literature as the primary data source, it provides an in-depth analysis of religious moderation through academic publications. Data was collected using manual coding based on discourse analysis principles and analyzed with NVivo software for rigor and transparency. The research focuses on three volumes of the Tadris Journal (Vol. 14 No. 2, 2019; Vol. 18 No. 1, 2023; Vol. 18 No. 2, 2023), selected for their relevance to religious moderation. These publications align with the Ministry of Religious Affairs' initiatives to strengthen religious moderation during 2019–2023. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) by Norman Fairclough was applied to analyze the interaction between text, context, and power structures, encompassing thematic identification, discourse evaluation, and socio-political contextualization. The findings reveal the Tadris Journal's key role in addressing socio-religious issues in Madura, a region marked by radicalism and religious violence. Themes include countering radical conservatism, fostering peace, promoting ethical values, enhancing intra-faith relations, and embracing digital transformation. These efforts showcase a strategic approach to embedding religious moderation in higher education. The study underscores the importance of digital platforms in amplifying discourse on religious moderation and calls for innovative digital tools to expand religious literacy. Collaboration between academic institutions and policymakers is recommended to foster tolerance and peaceful coexistence across diverse socio-religious settings.

Abstract

PAI teachers play an essential role in Islamic education, especially in developing students' Qur'an reading skills, including tajweed, Maharaj, and fluency, while fostering spiritual growth. This study examines the teaching strategies, challenges, and outcomes of the Qur'an literacy program at SMP Negeri 2 Pegajahan using a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through direct observation, semi-structured interviews with teachers, students, parents and school leaders, and document analysis such as lesson plans and student performance records. Data analysis was conducted based on the Miles and Huberman framework through the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, with the support of triangulation techniques to ensure data validity. The results showed that PAI teachers act as facilitators as well as spiritual mentors, using effective teaching methods such as iqra' and talaqqi to build Qur'anic literacy. The daily routine of reading the Qur'an before the lesson begins increases motivation, builds confidence, and encourages students' spiritual discipline. Collaboration with parents and support from school leaders, including the provision of additional study time and interactive media, significantly strengthened the effectiveness of the program. This research contributes to the discourse of holistic Islamic education by demonstrating the integration of intellectual, emotional and spiritual elements in pedagogy. The study also offers practical recommendations for teachers and policymakers in designing innovative Qur'ānic literacy programs, which ultimately benefit educational institutions and the wider community

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing the Jigsaw cooperative learning method in improving students' engagement, collaboration, understanding, and retention in the subject of Islamic Cultural History (IHR). The study also identified the challenges faced during the implementation of the method, such as students' adaptation to new roles, ability variation, time management, and group dynamics. The research was conducted through a Classroom Action Research (PTK) approach in several cycles, involving observations, interviews, and analysis of student learning outcomes. The results showed that the Jigsaw method significantly increased student engagement, build teamwork, and strengthened social skills, such as communication and conflict resolution. Data showed an increase in material comprehension and long-term retention through collaborative interaction and group discussion. The study also identified implementation challenges, such as students' initial resistance to active roles, uneven contributions within groups, and time management constraints. Mitigation strategies, such as gradual guidance, provision of additional materials, and structured time management, proved effective in overcoming these obstacles. This study makes a practical contribution to the educational literature by confirming the effectiveness of the Jigsaw method while offering solutions to implementation challenges. The implications of this study suggest that the active role of teachers is crucial in ensuring the success of this method, as well as encouraging the application of the Jigsaw method in broader and diverse educational contexts. This research also opens up opportunities for further exploration of the application of the Jigsaw method in other subjects and groups of students with special needs.

Abstract

The increasing complexity of modern challenges, including moral degradation and the influence of digital culture, underscores the need for effective integration of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) values in schools. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach to investigate how PAI values are embedded in MAN 1 Tapanuli Tengah, focusing on teachers, principals, and students' processes, experiences, and perspectives. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. They were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, which includes data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing and is validated through triangulation. The findings indicate a holistic framework built on three core components: faith (akidah), worship, and moral behavior (akhlak). Akidah serves as the spiritual foundation, fostering moral clarity and emotional stability. Worship, exemplified through communal prayer and dhikr, fosters spiritual discipline and social harmony. Ethical behavior is reinforced through educational strategies emphasizing honesty, responsibility, and tolerance, creating an environment supporting students to practice these values daily. This implementation involves role modeling from teachers, habituation, persuasive counseling, and educational sanctions to shape students' character and discipline. However, challenges remain due to limited parental involvement, peer influence, and unregulated use of social media. Theoretically, this research expands the role of religious education from mere knowledge transfer to character building. Practically, it provides insights into value-based education strategies by emphasizing collaboration between schools, families, and communities to address the challenges of the digital age. The findings contribute to local and global perspectives in strengthening value-based education.

Abstract

Evaluation is the initial process for planning the way forward. Still, in practice, it was found that most teacher performance evaluation programs did not positively impact improving the quality of education. This study describes the strategic planning, organisational structure and implementation outcomes of the teacher performance evaluation programme at SMP Muhammadiyah 57 Medan. Data were collected using interviews, observation, and document analysis and validated by triangulation using a qualitative descriptive approach. Strategic planning, supported by specific objectives, standardised procedures, and professional development efforts, emerged as the main approach to the program's success, according to the findings. This high-level assessment combined national policy objectives with a region-specific approach, blending theoretical models with realities on the ground. An organisational model detailed how systematic implementation was carried out, assigning responsibilities to evaluators and administrators. However, limited teacher involvement in developing evaluation instruments and unclear communication of results were identified as remaining problems, resulting in dissatisfaction and mismatched expectations. This study highlights the importance of collaborative planning, transparent feedback mechanisms and evaluator training to build trust and improve program effectiveness. The study provides a comprehensive model of teacher assessment through self-evaluation, motivational incentives and strong regulation, which allows for practical applications to support educational institutions in improving assessment processes and enhancing teaching quality

Abstract

The ability to read the Quran to elementary school students is still a significant problem in the field of Islamic religious education, especially in SD Negeri No. 107826 Pematang Sijonam (SD Nege telugu No. 107826 Pematang Sijonam). This problem is due to the traditional and outdated applied methods of learning that do not engage students to learn. This study is conducted to see the effectiveness of the Index Card Match (ICM) method in improving students' reading ability in the Quran. A qualitative case study design approach is used. The subjects of the studies were Muslim students in the school. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive approach, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results obtained show that the ICM method can increase students' motivation to learn and skills in reading the Quran correctly. Moreover, this method also develops an interactive and collaborative process, making the learning environment fun and encouraging students to learn. Nevertheless, implementing ICM faces challenges as teachers need to prepare more to develop materials and guarantee adequate learning time. This paper suggests that the second method, ICM, should be more widely integrated into practice-based learning, even in subjects requiring more conceptual understanding. Moreover, there is a need for intensive training for the teachers to improve their skills in adequately implementing the ICM method. It is also expected that school policies would promote the utilization of this method by providing enough resources and time to ensure maximum impact on the quality of learning
