Abstract

The activity to discover the social role of the main character in the short story Hawa Panas by Silvester Petara Hurit was carried out using a qualitative method with dramatic techniques. This method directly explains the concrete actions carried out by the characters in the story. This activity integrates a sociological approach to literature and mathematical concepts to explain the social roles that appear in the story. The collaboration between the Indonesian Language and Literature Education study program and the Mathematics Education study program at the FKIP Larantuka Teacher Training and Technology Institute allows the application of mathematical concepts in understanding the story. In this short story, there are several social roles that can be found, namely: (1) building relationships between individuals to create strong social bonds, (2) being sensitive in responding to surrounding conditions and providing appropriate responses, (3) communicating appropriately to avoid misinterpretation, (4) using a cultural approach to respect prevailing social norms, and (5) showing compassion for others. This activity also provides a deeper understanding of the application of social concepts in everyday life through literary stories.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of planning, program transparency, and maslahah-based utilization on the success of the Village Fund Program in Pulau Tamang. The research employed a quantitative approach with an associative research design. The population consisted of 578 village residents, and a sample of 85 respondents was determined using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression analysis, t-test, F-test, and the coefficient of determination (R Square). The results indicate that partially, planning, program transparency, and maslahah-based utilization have a significant effect on the success of the Village Fund Program, with significance values below 0.05. Simultaneously, the three variables also have a significant effect, with an F-value of 26.108 and a significance of 0.000. The R Square value of 0.492 shows that 49.2% of the variation in program success can be explained by these variables. Thus, the success of the Village Fund Program is influenced by systematic planning, accountable transparency, and maslahah-oriented fund utilization.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen village officials’ understanding of restorative justice for resolving social and environmental conflicts in Gudang Hirang Village, Banjar Regency. The results indicated a significant improvement in the officials’ ability to identify minor conflicts, conduct neutral restorative justice-based mediation, and draft written agreements that prioritize victim recovery without recourse to formal judicial proceedings. Enhanced understanding of restorative justice directly contributed to community harmony in Gudang Hirang Village. A local wisdom-based dispute resolution mechanism involving village officials, community leaders, Babinsa, and Bhabinkamtibmas effectively prevented the escalation of social and environmental conflicts and resolved them through familial approaches. This model reduces court caseloads for minor cases while promoting active community participation in maintaining order and social justice. Program sustainability can be ensured through the establishment of a Restorative Justice House, the development of village mediation SOPs, and periodic mentoring by the service team, thereby institutionalizing restorative justice principles as the primary instrument for maintaining peace at the village level. The program employed lectures with PowerPoint presentations, case discussions, interactive question-and-answer sessions, and pre-tests and post-tests. Equipment used included laptops, microphones, a sound system, mobile phones, and an LCD projector.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by differences in students’ learning responses in music learning at Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Katharos Indonesia, especially among Papuan students. Of the 17 students participating in music learning, 12 Papuan students demonstrated learning processes that required more intensive instructional adaptation compared to students from other regions. This community service program aimed to analyze the relationship between learning cultural background and the comprehension process of Papuan students in music learning within theological education. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design analyzed through Lev Vygotsky’s Social Constructivism theory. Data were collected through observation, additional learning sessions, and documentation of music learning activities using demonstration methods, active practice (learning by doing), audio-visual media, and participatory approaches. The results showed that students’ comprehension processes were influenced by educational background, previous learning experiences, limited understanding of music theory, and differences in learning styles. Contextual and participatory learning approaches were proven to improve learning engagement, tempo comprehension, and students’ confidence in music practice. The findings indicate that theological education institutions need to develop adaptive and contextual pedagogical strategies to bridge differences in students’ learning processes from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Abstract

Gender Mainstreaming is a development strategy for achieving gender equality by integrating gender perspectives into every stage of planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. One key instrument is Gender-Responsive Planning and Budgeting (GRPB). However, village-level officials often have limited capacity to use sex-disaggregated data, identify gender issues, and prepare Gender Analysis Pathway (GAP) and Gender Action Budget (GAB) documents. This community service program aimed to strengthen the capacity of urban village officials in Surakarta City to prepare applicable GRPB documents. The program involved representatives from 54 urban villages through technical assistance, mentoring, interactive lectures, group discussions, case studies, GAP and GAB practice, and individual consultations. The mentoring used a four-step GAP model covering gender data and issue identification, causal analysis, action plan formulation, and determination of relevant implementing institutions. The results showed improved participants’ understanding of gender concepts, social inclusion, gender-responsive budgeting, and technical preparation of GAP and GAB documents. Participants were able to identify local gender issues and formulate action plans aligned with village development priorities. The program also strengthened awareness of sex-disaggregated data as evidence for inclusive planning and demonstrated that capacity building supports gender-responsive local development at the urban village level in a sustainable and participatory manner effectively.

Abstract

Early childhood education is a crucial stage in the development of legal awareness and adherence to rules; however, teachers’ competence in fostering this awareness through a deep learning approach is still not optimal. A preliminary survey of early childhood education teachers revealed that the majority still rely on instructional and rote-learning methods, with limited understanding of deep learning as a reflective learning approach. This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of HIMPAUDI member teachers in Malang Regency to apply deep learning in fostering legal awareness among young children, particularly regarding compliance with rules. The methods used include outreach through the provision of educational materials, discussions, and the implementation of best practices in deep learning for fostering legal awareness in young children. The outcome of this program is an increase in the participants’ science and technology. This program successfully shifted teachers’ paradigms from an authoritative and rote-learning approach toward a participatory, reflective, and experience-based approach in fostering legal awareness in early childhood. Similar capacity-building programs are recommended for replication in other regions to ensure the sustainability of strengthening the pedagogical competencies of early childhood education (PAUD) teachers in Indonesia.
