Abstract

This study aims to examine the development of a Problem Based Learning (PBL)-based Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum in State Islamic Senior High Schools (Madrasah Aliyah Negeri) through a library research approach. PBL is positioned as a relevant pedagogical approach for promoting contextual, participatory, and critical-oriented PAI learning. This study employs library research by reviewing scholarly books and peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last five years. Data were collected through a systematic search of academic sources related to curriculum development, Islamic Religious Education, and the implementation of PBL. Data analysis was conducted using an analytical-critical approach, involving data reduction, data display, and analytical conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the development of a PBL-based PAI curriculum  has the potential to enhance the relevance of Islamic religious learning to students’ real-life contexts while supporting the development of 21st-century competencies. The integration of PBL into the PAI curriculum requires adjustments in learning objectives, content organization, and evaluation systems that emphasize authentic assessment. This study is expected to serve as a conceptual reference for the development of PAI curricula in State Islamic Senior High Schools and to contribute to the academic discourse on curriculum innovation in Islamic religious education in Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning in shaping students’ character at an Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT). Character building is one of the main objectives of education, particularly Islamic education, which emphasizes the internalization of moral and religious values in students’ daily lives. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of PAI learning at SDIT is carried out in an integrated manner through classroom learning activities, religious habituation, teachers’ role modeling, and an Islamic school culture. PAI learning plays a significant role in developing students’ religious character, discipline, responsibility, honesty, and social awareness. Therefore, PAI learning at SDIT is not only oriented toward cognitive aspects but also toward the formation of students’ attitudes and behaviors based on Islamic values

Abstract

Character education should be a central emphasis in educational curricula. Educators not only enhance cognitive knowledge but also cultivate good character in students, fostering their development into intelligent and well-rounded individuals. This study seeks to identify the programs executed by madrasas in the implementation of character education through the Rahmatan Lil 'Alamin Student Profile (P2RA) at MIS Tahfizh Cendekia in Pekanbaru City, along with the challenges encountered during implementation and potential solutions to address these challenges. This research employed a qualitative methodology. The techniques employed for data collection comprised observation, interviews, and documentation. Eight individuals participated in the study: the Principal, the Vice Principal for Student Affairs, the Tahfizh Coordinator, the homeroom teachers for Grades IV and V, the Islamic Religious Education teacher, and students from Grades IV and V. The data analysis techniques employed comprised data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The study identified seven programs executed by Madrasahs in the implementation of character education through the Rahmatan Lil 'Alamin student profile, detailed as follows: 1. Punctuality, 2. Appropriate Attire, 3. Group Prayer, 4. Flag Ceremony, 5. Educational Trip, 6. Scouting Activities, 7. Memorisation and Recitation Program. The Rahmatan Lil 'Alamin student profile encompasses characteristics such as civility, exemplary behaviour, citizenship, and nationality. It emphasises a balanced and straightforward approach, equality, deliberation, tolerance, and a dynamic, innovative spirit. Implementation challenges include insufficient parental cooperation and the diverse characteristics of students. Homeroom teachers should engage in communication with parents and interact with students

Abstract

This study aims to examine the full-day school program at Integrated Islamic Elementary Schools (SDIT) for lower grade students (grades 1-3), examining developmental psychology theory and Islamic educational concepts. The research method used a qualitative approach, incorporating literature review of research articles published in scientific journals. The results indicate that the full-day school program has a positive impact on religious character development and academic achievement, but also has negative impacts such as physical and mental fatigue, reduced family time, and adaptation difficulties for lower grade students. Based on Piaget's theory, children in grades 1-3 (ages 6-9) are in the pre-operational to concrete operational transition phase, requiring sufficient playtime and rest, with an attention span of only 15-20 minutes. From an Islamic perspective, the concepts of tadarruj (gradual development), fitrah (natural development), and tarbiyah (education) teach that education should be tailored to the child's abilities and not burdensome. This study concludes that the 8-9 hour full-day school program is less suitable for lower grades and recommends program modifications by reducing the duration of formal learning, increasing playtime and rest, and involving parents more intensively in the child's education process

Abstract

This quantitative experimental study examines the effectiveness of a Ruhiology Intelligence (RQ)-based learning method in improving Islamic Religious Education (PAI) achievement in 200 students at an Integrated Islamic Senior High School (SMA IT) in Batam, Indonesia. The research aims to examine the effectiveness of a Ruhiology Intelligence (RQ)-based learning method in improving Islamic Religious Education (PAI) achievement among students at an Integrated Islamic Senior High School (SMA IT) in Batam, Indonesia. The study employed a pretest-posttest design with a control group, and data triangulation through questionnaires, PAI tests, and digital observations. The study examined the five pillars of RQ: spiritual morality, meaningful memorization, spiritual Arabic, worship achievement, and daily reflection, compared to conventional lecture methods amidst the challenges of Industry 4.0, such as digital distractions and low spiritual activity. The results indicate a projected increase in PAI achievement of 15–20% (exceeding the Minimum Completion Criteria/KKM ≥70), a 28% decrease in stress levels, and a 12% decrease in bullying (urban trend). These findings were validated through a paired t-test (α = 0.05), multiple linear regression (R² > 0.50), and the Iskandar RQ Scale instrument with a reliability level of α = 0.89. The novel contributions of this research include the development of a digital-hybrid RQ module aligned with the Independent Curriculum, policy recommendations for the Riau Provincial Education Office, and empirical validation of Iskandar's RQ theory in urban areas, to bridge the gap in holistic Islamic education towards Indonesia Emas 2045

Abstract

Generation Z adolescents, born and raised in a hyper-connected digital environment, face complex challenges in character formation and religious identity. This study aims to conceptualize a model of adolescent education relevant to the Generation Z era through the interpretation of Surah Al-Baqarah verse 83. The method used is qualitative research with a library study approach. Primary data was obtained from the books of mu'tabarah interpretation such as Tafsir al-Azhar, Tafsir al-Misbah, and Tafsir al-Tahrir wa al-Tanwir. Secondary data came from scientific journals indexed by Sinta and Scopus as well as books related to adolescent psychology and Islamic education. The results of the analysis show that the verse that commands commitment to monotheism, doing good to parents, relatives, orphans, and the poor, and being steadfast in prayer and zakat, contains five pillars of contextual adolescent education. These pillars include Digital Aqidah and Spiritual Education, Socio-Cultural Education in Cyberspace, Empathy and Social Concern Education, Discipline and Time Management Education, and Socio-Economic Responsibility Education. The discussion reveals that integrating the universal values of this verse with the characteristics of Generation Z can create a holistic and resilient educational approach. The findings imply the need for reorienting Islamic education and character-building curricula toward a more integrative approach that combines religious values, digital literacy, life skills, and participatory learning methods. In conclusion, Surah Al-Baqarah verse 83 offers a lasting educational framework for developing Generation Z youth with strong, religious, and contributing characters

Abstract

The work of Tafsir Raudlatul Irfan by KH Abdul Sanusi is one of the intellectual legacies of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), illustrating how Nusantara scholars interpreted the Qur’an contextually while remaining rooted in classical Islamic traditions. This study explores KH Sanusi’s approach to Qur’anic interpretation by focusing on its methodology, interpretive style, and the socio-cultural background that shaped it. Employing a qualitative library research method, the study reveals that Raudlatul Irfan presents a synthesis of tafsir bi al-ma’thur and tafsir bi al-ra’yi, framed within a Sufi-oriented and morally didactic perspective. KH Sanusi positions tafsir not merely as an intellectual exercise but also as a means of moral formation and spiritual cultivation. Consequently, Raudlatul Irfan serves not only as an exegetical text but also as a reflection of the holistic worldview of pesantren that emphasizes the integration of knowledge, practice, and ethics. In the contemporary context, KH Sanusi’s interpretive approach highlights the importance of reading the Qur’an with local awareness, social empathy, and living spirituality. The findings imply that contextual and value-oriented Qur’anic interpretation can contribute to the development of Islamic education, character formation, and inclusive religious discourse in the digital era while preserving local wisdom and spiritual depth

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the dynamics of Islamization in the coastal areas of the Malacca Strait by emphasizing the role of maritime trade routes, Muslim scholars (ulama), Islamic political institutions, and cultural acculturation in shaping Malay Islamic identity. This study employs a qualitative approach based on library research by critically examining academic books, reputable national and international journal articles, and scholarly documents published within the last ten years (2015–2025). Data analysis was conducted using historical-critical analysis and content analysis to identify patterns, key actors, and driving factors in the Islamization process. The findings indicate that Islamization in the coastal regions of the Malacca Strait occurred peacefully, gradually, and contextually through trade interactions, scholarly networks, and the institutionalization of Islam within Islamic sultanates. Islam functioned not only as a belief system but also as an ethical, legal, and cultural foundation that was integrated with local customs. This process resulted in a distinctive form of Malay Islam characterized by moderation, inclusivity, and adaptability to social change. This article recommends strengthening coastal-based Islamization studies as an important reference for the development of Islamic history, Nusantara Islam studies, and contextual Islamic education in Southeast Asia

Abstract

This study analyzes the methods and interpretive approaches employed in Tafsir Raudhatul ‘Irfan by Abdul Sanusi. The study proceeds from the assumption that this work cannot be adequately understood merely as either tafsir bi al-ma’tsur or tafsir bi al-ra’yi, but rather exhibits a complex methodological character. The research adopts a qualitative-descriptive design using content analysis of the exegetical text, accompanied by an examination of its reference sources and patterns of Qur’anic interpretation. The findings indicate that Raudhatul ‘Irfan applies the tahlili method of exegesis with a strong emphasis on bayani and ishari approaches. Abdul Sanusi interprets Qur’anic verses by starting from their linguistic meanings and transmitted reports, then expands these meanings through symbolic and spiritual explanations characteristic of Sufism. The ishari approach employed is not entirely speculative, as it remains framed by the apparent meaning of the text, although Sufi subjectivity is unavoidable. Thus, this tafsir represents a synthesis between the classical exegetical tradition and spiritual inclinations, while also revealing the limits of objectivity inherent in ishari exegesis

Abstract

This article examines Shaykh Muhammad Arsyad al-Banjari (1710–1812) as a key intellectual actor in the formation of normative Islam in eighteenth-century Nusantara. Departing from previous studies that tend to approach him through biographical and locally bounded perspectives, this study situates Shaykh Arsyad within the framework of the Haramain–Nusantara scholarly network, the production of religious authority, and the transregional transmission of Islamic knowledge across the Malay world (Banjar–Mecca–Riau). Employing an intellectual history approach and critical literature review of primary and secondary sources, this article demonstrates that Shaykh Arsyad was not merely a local jurist but a significant agent in the standardization of religious practices through his legal work Sabilal Muhtadin, theological purification, the strengthening of Islamic education, and his contributions to the Qur’anic scholarly tradition in Nusantara. Through discursive mechanisms based on texts and scholarly networks, Shaykh Arsyad’s influence extended beyond Banjar without requiring physical mobility. These findings highlight his role as a transregional ulama who bridged classical Islamic scholarship with the socio-cultural context of the Malay world, contributing to the development of a moderate and enduring Islamic orthodoxy in Nusantara
