Abstract

This study explores the management of the superior class program at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 1 (MIN 1) West Lampung, focusing on its role in enhancing student achievement and institutional reputation. The program integrates Islamic values with modern educational practices, structured around four key management components: planning, organizing, implementation, and evaluation. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document reviews, with a triangulation method ensuring reliability. The findings highlight the program's significant achievements in both academic and non-academic domains, including improved Qur'anic memorization, competitive successes, and strengthened community trust. The management framework emphasizes strategic planning aligned with institutional goals, resource allocation, innovative teaching methods, and rigorous evaluation involving parents and supervisors. The study concludes that the superior class program effectively enhances the institution’s image while providing a holistic education that nurtures students’ cognitive, spiritual, and social development. This study contributes to the discourse on Islamic education by demonstrating the potential of integrating traditional values with modern management practices. The insights gained offer a model for other institutions to adopt similar initiatives, ensuring their relevance and competitiveness in a contemporary educational landscape.

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the application of constructivist theory in the learning process within the Islamic Religious Education Study Program at IAIN Pontianak and its impact on students' awareness of religious moderation. The research employs a library-based approach enriched by field investigations, including observation, interviews, and documentation. A descriptive method is used to analyze the implementation of constructivist theory in Islamic Religious education and its influence on students’ moderate attitudes. The findings indicate that constructivist-based learning not only enhances students’ theoretical understanding of religion but also fosters the development of moderate, inclusive, and tolerant attitudes toward diversity. By internalizing the values of moderate Islam, students are better equipped to resist extremist interpretations. The study concludes that the application of constructivist theory in the Islamic Religious Education Study Program at IAIN Pontianak plays a significant role in cultivating students’ awareness of religious moderation, thereby preparing them to become educators who promote peace, tolerance, and social harmony.

Abstract

Religious moderation and multiculturalism in the era of digitalization serve as regulators of student behavior to counter the rapid development of digitalization in the modern age. This research aims to examine the internalization of multicultural education and religious moderation in strengthening the character of students in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, and then analyzed through data display, coding, and interpretation, ultimately leading to conclusions based on the qualitative analysis of Miles & Huberman. The results of the study indicate that the internalization of religious moderation and multiculturalism in shaping student character can be achieved through the following steps: 1) integration of multicultural content and religious moderation in the curriculum, 2) activities within student learning, 3) habituation of activities in student life, 4) equal opportunities for learning without gender discrimination, and 5) an inclusive academic culture that is open and based on respect for diversity, as well as social structure. Learning activities on campus contribute to the formation of student character in higher education, supported by the alignment of objectives, materials, and learning strategies, leading to the strengthening of social communities within the cohesive student environment.

Abstract

This study examines the form of curriculum integration between the Amanatul Ummah Islamic Boarding School and KH Abdul Chalim University, Mojokerto, focusing on integrating Islamic moderation-based religious education and academic education that accommodates social and cultural diversity. The background of this study is the need to integrate spiritual values and social diversity into the educational curriculum, which is increasingly relevant in an increasingly pluralistic world. The primary focus of this study is to explore how these two institutions form curriculum integration as a component that teaches pluralism, tolerance, and respect for differences in the context of higher education and pesantren. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving interviews, observations, and documentation as data collection techniques to study the two institutions' curriculum integration process. The findings of this study indicate that Pesantren Amanatul Ummah emphasises moderate religious education based on yellow books and students' social activities. At the same time, KH Abdul Chalim University integrates pluralism values in formal courses that are more global, such as Aswaja and multicultural education. The results of this study indicate that curriculum integration in both institutions creates an inclusive and moderate education, which complements each other to form a more tolerant generation, and is ready to face social diversity. The implication of this finding is that the holistic curriculum integration model can be the basis for Islamic education in the future, with recommendations for further research on the challenges of implementation and the role of technology in multicultural teaching in Islamic boarding schools and universities.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) utilization on the learning outcomes in Akidah Akhlak at Madrasah Aliyah Hidayatul Mubtadiin. A quantitative approach was employed, involving 143 students and 10 teachers. Data were collected through performance assessments, teacher readiness questionnaires, student surveys on the ICT, and classroom observations regarding ICT use. The findings show a significant positive correlation between the ICT and student learning outcomes, highlighting the importance of motivation in academic success. Furthermore, teacher readiness, particularly in integrating ICT into teaching, was found to have a substantial effect on student performance. Although ICT utilization was positively correlated with student performance, the inconsistency in its application suggests a need for further teacher training and support in using digital tools. The study emphasizes the need for combining traditional pedagogical methods with modern educational technologies to optimize student learning in Islamic education.

Abstract

Progressive Qur’anic interpretation as a contextual approach to understanding the Qur’an has been extensively developed at the theoretical level, but its implementation in Islamic higher education remains underexplored. Most institutions in Southeast Asia still adhere to traditional exegetical models that are less responsive to contemporary issues such as gender equality, environmental crises, and religious pluralism. This study aims to fill that gap by exploring the application of progressive interpretation as a pedagogical strategy in the Qur’an and Tafsir Study Program (PSIAT) at the Graduate School of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through curriculum document analysis, semi-structured interviews, and classroom observations. Thematic analysis was conducted through open, axial, and selective coding, focusing on principles of justice, social relevance, and interdisciplinarity. The findings show that PSIAT systematically integrates progressive interpretation into its curriculum through digital, interdisciplinary, and contextual approaches. Students demonstrated positive responses by developing critical thinking and actively engaging with contemporary social issues. This study offers an empirical contribution to the development of a tafsir curriculum in Islamic higher education that is more inclusive, transformative, and relevant to modern challenges.

Abstract

Few studies on the intellectual contribution of old people have been conducted, resulting in a research gap. The majority of studies tended to investigate younger people as the driver of renewal, while educational ideas from the old people are used to be neglected. This study aims to explore the educational thought of Sheikh Khatib Muhammad Ali as one of the old intellectuals, through his traditionalist book entitled “Syair Irsyadiyah”. This study employs a hermeneutic approach to literature analysis to get more insights into the meaning of written texts precisely, so that there is no gap in the reader's understanding of the author of the original text. Primarily, data were collected from the book “Syair Irsyadiyah”, supported with other related literature, such as books, articles, and previous research findings. The findings demonstrated that Sheikh Khatib Muhammad Ali is a traditionalist and a pioneer who balances the views of modernists and traditionalists in Minangkabau Islamic education This is demonstrated by his ideas about education, as follows: 1) Sheikh Khatib Muhammad Ali created and implemented a new curriculum that includes structured subjects, standardized science, systematic teaching methods, and learning evaluation. 2) Sheikh Khatib Muhammad Ali also made up his own books to be taught in his school while the religious schools preferred to maintain teaching classical books originating from Middle Eastern scholars from the middle ages. 3) Santri needs to be of high moral character since learning is a necessity. His concepts indicate the effort to renew Islamic studies by making religious knowledge and general knowledge balanced, using systematic and measurable teaching materials, and developing students’ good character.

Abstract

Managing puberty while away from families can be challenging for young adults, especially women. A pedagogical approach that combines reproductive health literacy with religious principles will equip students to face puberty responsibly and follow religious guidance. This study aims to explore the levels of female students’ knowledge in handling puberty and the relationship between these levels and the support the students receive from an Islamic boarding school. Two sets of questionnaires were distributed to female students (n=189) in a private Islamic Boarding School in Malang, Indonesia. The data was analysed using R version 4.4.0 with a Pearson’s product-moment correlation, completed with Spearman to measure the effect of students’ demography on their knowledge and school support. Results show that a moderately significant relationship was found between students’ knowledge and school support (p=0.354), which works reciprocally between the two. In terms of demographic information, such as students’ current age, age at their first menarche, information about puberty, and parents’ educational attainment, shows a slight influence on students’ knowledge. Interestingly, mothers’ education level significantly correlates with school support, while information from friends has a negative statistical correlation with school support. Yet most demographics show no statistically significant correlation with both students’ knowledge and school support. This finding implies the call for boarding schools to support their young female students while they are transitioning through puberty with confidence in relation to their ample knowledge.

Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia has often emphasized solely normative-doctrinal aspects, making it less capable of addressing various contextual challenges and the moral crises faced by the younger generation. This phenomenon indicates a gap between the universal ideals of Islamic teachings and the dynamic socio-cultural realities of society. In this context, Buya Hamka’s thought offers an integrative perspective that seeks to harmonize Islamic values with the local wisdom of the Nusantara, aiming to develop an Islamic education that is more contextual, humanistic, and deeply rooted in the nation’s cultural heritage. This article aims to examine a model of Islamic education based on local values as reflected in the works and ideas of Buya Hamka. The research approach employed is a conceptual paper utilizing hermeneutic analysis and literature synthesis, with a focus on a narrative review of texts and the core concepts found in Buya Hamka’s writings as well as other relevant scholarly literature. This study reveals that Hamka developed an educational model based on three main pillars: aqidah (faith), akhlaq (morality), and knowledge, while remaining open to the integration of local cultural values such as gotong royong (mutual cooperation), musyawarah (deliberation), and customary practices that align with the principles of Sharia. This integration is not a form of compromise but a transformative process that enriches Islamic education with a contextual socio-cultural dimension. Such an approach produces a contextual, character-based, and transformative Islamic education model, making it relevant in addressing the challenges of globalization while reinforcing the nation’s identity. This article provides a conceptual contribution to the development of Islamic education curricula rooted in Islamic values and local wisdom, and it opens avenues for further research on the implementation and policy of value-based education
