Abstract

This study aims to analyze John Locke's theory of empiricism from the perspective of Islamic education in enhancing children's learning experiences. Based on the context of Islamic education, it is an effort to guide humanity in living life following Islamic teachings. This requires an integrative view of how the Islamic context views this theory of empiricism in developing children's learning experiences so that there are implications for the current Islamic education process. The research employs a library research method with a qualitative approach. The materials used include literature from books and journal articles, particularly scientific journals published in the last five years, both national and international. The collected data is then processed and analyzed qualitatively to provide answers to the focus of this study. The results reveal that human knowledge derives from sensory experiences. Furthermore, Locke stated that humans are born in a blank state, like white paper, and the environment will give the graffiti what it will look like. Empiricism positions Ratio, or human reason, as the only function of processing the experience obtained from the environment into knowledge. However, knowledge acquisition is not solely based on experience in Islamic education. Instead, there are four ways for humans to acquire knowledge: sensory perception, the process of rational thought, and heart intuition through revelation. Additionally, Islam highlights that humans are born into the world already in a state of fitrah. This has implications for the Islamic education process, such as the role of teachers, religious experience, and the formation of children’s character.

Abstract

Abstract. The learning atmosphere, especially in the environment, is still not optimal so that it does not have a positive impact on the learning process. The purpose of this study is to describe Research Trends and Gaps in Characteristic Learning Environment in the Community: A Bibliometric Analysis (2019–2024). The approach used is quantitative which specifically uses bibliometric analysis. Data source from Crossref, a publish or perish (PoP) application with 500 articles as a sample with the keyword characteristics of the learning environment in the community for the period 2019-2024 produced 1000 articles which were then analyzed using the VOSViewer application version 1.6.20. The results of the research on the topic of characteristics of the learning environment in the community with a span of 2019-2024 show that the ups and downs of publications seem to be decreasing in 2024. The results of the research with the most publications on the characteristics of the learning environment in the community in 2020 (27 publications). Productive researchers include Michael Cann, Gary Harfitt, Marjorie Mayo, Ntimi Mtawa, Muhammad Hassan Raza, Rachael W. Shah, and Osly Usman. Based on the source from VOSViewer, a map of research development was produced, there are 3 clusters. Cluster 1 (36 items), cluster 2 (31 items), and cluster 3 (20 items). The keywords that are widely researched include characteristic, teaching, community engagement, program, and analysis. Meanwhile, those that are included in the category of research recommendations that still do not have research are community service, learning process, learner, higher education, online learning environment.  The topic of community service makes a very positive contribution in creating a learning environment and of course the learning environment is not only directly manum but must also be done through learning in an online learning environment.

Abstract

Educational institutions strive to shape students into individuals with character and noble morals, enabling them to integrate intelligence, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual aspects. Research on character education in elementary schools, specifically Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, presents diverse viewpoints. Based on the data above. The focus of this study is on three specific issues. The first issue is the pressing need for character education in both elementary schools and Islamic elementary schools, also known as madrasah ibtidaiyah. The second concern pertains to the various forms of character education students receive. The third issue pertains to the implementation of the character education model in Islamic elementary schools. The researchers employed the systematic literature review method. The articles were chosen based on five stages, and data analysis was done using PRISMA. The themes and time period covered the last ten years, from 2014 to 2024, and global data from Scopus and Google Scholar, which added up to 483 articles, book reviews, proceedings, and conferences. The study's results indicate that schools must effectively and efficiently implement character education in Islamic elementary school students, through coaching, mentoring, and individual approaches. In addition, schools must strengthen educational components such as curriculum, learning media, madrasah programs, and the government through the education office. while the types of characters implemented in Islamic elementary schools, include: religious character, nationalism, mutual cooperation, social, and discipline, which are supported by several character education models such as Thomas Lickona's character education model, the G-Gold Way model, participatory observation learning model, and an education model based on strengthening collaboration between schools and parents. The study's theoretical implications emphasize the importance of fostering a positive school culture as the primary solution.

Abstract

This research aims to explore how the Sufi curriculum at Dayah Mudi Mesra influences the spiritual development and character of the students (santri). Utilizing a qualitative research method with a case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, involving both santri and teachers at the dayah. An interactive analysis method by Miles and Huberman was applied to interpret the data, which was validated using triangulation techniques. The findings indicate that the Sufi curriculum, which emphasizes the teaching of classical texts such as Ihya Ulumuddin, as well as daily practices like dhikr (remembrance of God) and wirid (recitations), is effective in shaping the character of the santri. Values such as religiosity, honesty, and responsibility have become internalized in the daily lives of the santri, strengthening their spiritual connection with Allah SWT and their discipline in worship. However, the main challenges include a lack of resources, particularly a shortage of trained instructors in Sufism, and limited supporting facilities. This research fills a gap in the literature by connecting the Sufi curriculum with character education and provides recommendations for other institutions seeking to integrate Sufism into character education. It is recommended that training be provided for teachers to enhance their understanding and teaching skills in Sufism, as well as to increase social activities to boost the engagement of santri within the community. Overall, this research contributes not only to academic discourse but also offers practical guidance for developing a more holistic model of Islamic education that can be implemented in other institutions.

Abstract

In the context of globalization, Islamic education faces great challenges, especially related to secularization and separation between religious and general sciences. Therefore, it is very important to develop an educational system capable of combining spiritual and scientific aspects. Through this approach, Islamic education aims to form students' balanced character in intellectual, moral, and spiritual aspects, as well as prepare them to face the challenges of the times. For this reason, effective learning methods, such as mind mapping and blended learning, along with curriculum integration, need to be implemented to increase student engagement. Curriculum integration means combining general science and religion in one harmonized system. World knowledge is taught along with Islamic values, so that each subject helps to strengthen these values. For example, science is taught by paying attention to Islamic principles, so that there is no separation between world science and religion. However, the lack of facilities, qualified educators, and adequate funding for operations and development are the main challenges. In addition, the separation between religious science and general science, which separates the spiritual aspect from the worldly aspect, also contributes to the delay in Islamic education in keeping up with the development of science and technology. Therefore, an approach that unites religious and general science is important so that Islamic education remains relevant to the times and is able to face the challenges of globalization.
