Abstract

Background: The liver is the largest metabolic organ and plays an important role in the body. Nutritional fulfilment is one factor in maintaining liver health. Liver function can be evaluated by measuring the levels of SGPT and SGOT enzymes in the blood. Soybean juice and zinc can support liver health by keeping SGPT and SGOT enzyme levels normal. Methods: This study was conducted between October and December 2024 at the Zoology Laboratory of the University of Lampung. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) included four treatment groups. Each treatment included five mice: control (K), treatment 1 (P1)- induced Soybean juice 0,6 mL/kg body weight (P2) induced Soybean 0,3 mL/kg body weight and Zinc 0,3 mL/kg body weight, and (P3) induced Soybean 0,6 mL/kg body weight and Zinc 0,6 mL/kg body weight for 14 days. Normal and homogeneous data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) to determine whether the treatment's effect was significant. Differences were considered statistically significant at p < 0.05. Duncan's multiple interval post hoc test (=5%) was used to identify the most effective treatment. Result: Based on the results of the one-way ANOVA test with a 95% confidence interval, the average SGPT and SGOT levels in the K, P1, P2, and P3 treatments differ significantly. The average SGPT levels above show that the P2 and P3 groups experienced a significant decrease compared to the K and P1 treatments. Conclusion: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that administering soya juice and zinc at an optimum dose of 1.2 mL/kg body weight can affect and maintain normal SGPT and SGOT levels.

Abstract

Bilateral clavicle fractures are rare and when it occurs, these are generally associated with high-energy trauma which may also associated with thoracic injury. We report a case of a 46-year-old man presenting with bilateral fractures of the clavicle associated with multiple rib fractures and hemothorax after he suffered a road traffic accident, hit by a car from behind and fell with his chest hitting the road. The left clavicle was fixed with a hook plate, the left clavicle was fixed by a S-shaped locking plate. For the thoracic injury, the hemothorax was managed by water seal drainage (WSD) placed on the left lung and the multiple rib fractures was fixed with elective open reduction and internal fixation.

Abstract

Background: Chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment for pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) but is frequently associated with significant hematopoietic suppression. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effects of chemotherapy on hematopoietic suppression and recovery in pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Methods: This systematic review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD420251074627) and conducted according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were performed in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink for studies published between 2020 and 2025. Original studies assessing chemotherapy-related hematopoietic changes in pediatric ALL were included. After screening titles, abstracts, and full texts, 7 studies were eligible and synthesized narratively. Results: Induction chemotherapy consistently caused profound suppression of erythropoiesis, granulopoiesis, and thrombopoiesis, reflected by declines in hemoglobin, absolute neutrophil counts, and platelet counts. Hematopoietic recovery was phase-specific and lineage-dependent, with earlier erythroid recovery compared with neutrophil and platelet recovery. Early markers, including reticulocyte indices and immature platelet fraction, demonstrated earlier recovery than conventional blood counts. Bone marrow assessments showed delayed restoration of marrow cellularity and hematopoietic stem cell compartments despite morphologic remission. Conclusion: Chemotherapy-induced hematopoietic suppression in pediatric ALL is marked and heterogeneous, with recovery extending beyond morphologic remission. Integrated monitoring using peripheral blood parameters, early recovery markers, and selective bone marrow evaluation may improve assessment of hematopoietic recovery and supportive care during treatment

Abstract

Background: Excessive free radicals in the body can cause oxidative stress and trigger various diseases. Antioxidants play a crucial role in neutralizing free radicals. Purple eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is a natural source of antioxidants that has a high anthocyanin content. The boiling process is essential for preparing purple eggplant, as it can affect its antioxidant activity. Methods: This study was a controlled laboratory experimental design, observing the antioxidant activity of boiled purple eggplant extracts at durations of 4 minutes, 8 minutes, and 12 minutes, with concentrations of 50 ppm, 100 ppm, 150 ppm, 200 ppm, and 250 ppm. The qualitative test was conducted to detect the presence of flavonoids, while the quantitative test was performed using the DPPH method with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and repeated three times. Results: The flavonoid test indicated that purple eggplant contains antioxidant compounds, as shown by the color change from brick red to golden yellow. The IC50 values of boiled purple eggplant were 152 ppm (4 minutes), 110 ppm (8 minutes), and 130 ppm (12 minutes). Conclusion: The antioxidant activity of purple eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) measured using the DPPH method was categorized as moderate, with the highest antioxidant activity observed at 8 minutes of boiling, indicated by the lowest IC50 value of 110 ppm. In comparison, the IC50 values at 4 and 12 minutes of boiling were 152 ppm and 130 ppm, respectively. These findings suggest that boiling duration affects antioxidant activity, with 8 minutes representing the optimal boiling time for preserving antioxidant compounds in purple eggplant.

Abstract

Background: HIV continues to pose a serious threat to world health. Gestational age is one of the indicators used to evaluate the success of HIV status because pregnant HIV-positive women are more likely to experience maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. In order to reach pregnant women and their partners for HIV testing, the World Health Organization is beginning to explore the use of the most recent HIV test, known as HIV self-testing (HIVST). Determining the utilization of HIVST in ANC services is the aim of this literature review. Method: This article was written using a literature study based on Google Scholar and Pubmed databases from 2016-2023. A total of 17 articles are reviewed in this paper. Result: The results showed that the use of HIVST in pregnant women and their partners in ANC services was an early prevention related to status and further treatment efforts. Conclusion: It is hoped that the government will focus more on HIVST counseling and secondary HIVST distribution strategies in ANC services. In addition, further development is needed in the form of research related to HIVST in ANC services so that the target of HIV testing for pregnant women and partners can be achieved.

Abstract

Background: Spironolactone, a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist, is widely used to treat resistant hypertension, heart failure, and primary aldosteronism. However, significant interindividual variability in therapeutic response suggests a genetic contribution to its effectiveness. Method: This study employed a bioinformatics approach using secondary data from PharmGKB, GTEx Portal, and HaploReg v4.2 to identify genetic variants and gene expression profiles potentially influencing spironolactone response. Result: Seven variants were identified as associated with spironolactone effectiveness: rs1799752 (ACE), rs3890011 and rs1126742 (CYP4A11), rs1801253 (ADRB1), rs1799983 (NOS3), rs4961 (ADD1), and rs1042713 (ADRB2). Tissue-specific expression analysis showed ACE highly expressed in testis, CYP4A11 in liver, ADRB1 in lung, NOS3 in spleen, ADD1 in tibial artery, and ADRB2 in skin. Functional predictions indicated that missense variants (rs1126742, rs1799983, rs4961) may affect protein structure, while intronic variants (rs1799752, rs3890011) may influence gene regulation. Conclusion: These findings suggest that pharmacogenomic profiling may help predict spironolactone response and support the development of personalized treatment strategies. Further clinical validation is required to establish the therapeutic relevance of these variants

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is an escalating public health concern, particularly among productive-age populations in urban settings. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of WHR and HG as low-cost, non-invasive tools for early diabetes risk detection. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 539 productive-age adults (>18 years) across multiple districts in Jakarta during 2024–2025 using consecutive sampling. Fasting blood glucose, WHR, and HG were assessed. Multiple linear regression was applied to examine associations between WHR, HG, and fasting glucose. A binary logistic regression model with backward likelihood ratio selection was used to identify predictors of diabetes. Results: WHR showed a significant positive association with fasting glucose (B = 72.647; p = 0.001), while HG demonstrated a significant inverse association (B = –0.468; p = 0.047). Logistic regression analysis indicated that lower HG (B = –0.867; Exp(B) = 0.420; p = 0.001) and higher WHR (B = –2.413; Exp(B) = 0.090; p = 0.018) were independently associated with diabetes risk. The model constant was 4.535 (p < 0.001). Conclusion: A model integrating WHR and HG shows promise for early diabetes risk stratification among productive-age adults in Jakarta, supporting their utility in community-based screening.
