Abstract

Bathrooms or toilets are an essential part of daily life, serving as places for personal cleansing and relieving oneself. In Islam, such activities are not only related to physical cleanliness but also to moral values and ethics emphasized in the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The purpose of this study is to analyze the proper manners and recommended practices for using the bathroom as stated in the Prophet’s hadiths, such as supplicating before entering, entering with the left foot, maintaining modesty, and following appropriate procedures when entering and leaving the bathroom. Through an examination of these hadiths, this study seeks to explore the deeper meanings behind Islamic teachings that regulate human behavior in everyday situations. The analysis is conducted by reviewing the religious, moral, and social contexts of each relevant hadith in order to understand why Islam places cleanliness and propriety as integral parts of faith. This research employs a qualitative approach based on library research to collect data. The approach involves engaging with relevant literature and ideas to draw conclusions. Muslims may gain new insights from the results of this study regarding the importance of good manners in all aspects of life, even in matters that may seem trivial, such as using the bathroom. Thus, this study affirms that both physical and spiritual cleanliness are tangible manifestations of the faith and discipline of a Muslim who strives to comprehensively follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Abstract

This study aims to compare the interpretation of environmental and scientific verses in the Quran. This study uses a literature study approach. The results show that a comparison between environmental and scientific verses in the Quran demonstrates a complementary relationship. Scientific verses (kawniyah) reveal signs of God's greatness through the creation of nature, which encourages humans to think and research. Environmental verses (tasyri'iyah) provide an ethical and moral foundation for humans as caliphs to protect and preserve nature. The integration of the two produces a holistic understanding: scientific knowledge of nature should strengthen ethical awareness to protect it, not become a tool for its exploitation. A comparison of interpretations from various commentators, both classical and modern, proves that the Quran is a book that is timelessly relevant, able to adapt to scientific advances without losing its spiritual and ethical values.

Abstract

This paper explains the meaning of istitha'ah in the interpretation of al-Azhar and its relevance to the implementation of the Indonesian pilgrimage during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research is library research, using the research methodology of maudhu'I interpretation. The primary source in this research is the book of Tafsir Al-Azhar written by Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah and published by the Nurul Islam Foundation Jakarta in 1982. This study found that the meaning of istitha'ah in the interpretation of al-Azhar is the provision of piety, because according to Buya Hamka the best provision is piety to Allah SWT. Therefore, the author concludes that the concept of istitha'ah offered by Buya Hamka in the interpretation of al-Azhar seems irrelevant if it is applied to the implementation of the pilgrimage during the Covid-19 pandemic, because it is not in harmony with the concept of al-maqasid al-syariah which is centered on to the five benefits, especially the benefit of the soul of Hifzh an-nafs. In addition, Buya Hamka's experience when performing the hajj pilgrimage in 1927 is also impossible to apply at this time, considering the differences in legal rules. Theoretically, this research is expected to contribute to the development of Islamic studies, especially in the field of interpretation, while practically this research is expected to provide scientific explanations to the wider community regarding the problems of implementing the Indonesian Hajj during the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social verses in the Qur’an using a historical approach in order to understand the social values contained therein and their relevance to contemporary social life. This study employs a qualitative method, specifically library research, by examining various sources related to Qur’anic exegesis, social verses, and the historical approach in exegetical studies. Data were collected through documentation techniques from primary and secondary sources, including the Qur’an, exegetical works, scientific journals, and relevant academic literature. Data analysis was conducted using a descriptive-analytical approach by examining the socio-historical context of the revelation of the verses (asbab al-nuzul) and interpreting the social meaning of the verses contextually. The research findings indicate that the social verses in the Qur’an contain fundamental principles regarding human equality, justice, social solidarity, and concern for vulnerable social groups. The historical approach helps uncover the social context behind the revelation of the verses, enabling the verses’ messages to be understood more comprehensively and applied effectively in modern society. This study concludes that the social teachings in the Qur’an have strong relevance as ethical and moral guidelines for building a just, harmonious, and civilized society.

Abstract

The historiography of exegesis is a field of study that examines how the history of the development of Qur’anic exegesis has been written, compiled, and constructed across various historical periods. This field is important because the history of exegesis not only documents the development of exegetical works and the lives of exegetes but also reveals the intellectual, social, political, and cultural dynamics that have influenced the emergence of various interpretive approaches. This article aims to analyze the methods used in writing the history of exegesis, identify the influence of ideological biases in the historiography of exegesis, and explain the periodization of exegetical development in the Indonesian archipelago. The research employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained through a review of various relevant literature, including books, scholarly articles, and research findings on historiography and the study of exegesis. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, classification, interpretation, and the drawing of conclusions using a descriptive-analytical approach. The results of the study indicate that the historiography of tafsir has been developed through several approaches, namely chronological, biographical, thematic, and contextual-historical. The writing of the history of exegesis is also not entirely value-free, as it is influenced by the author’s ideological background, which has the potential to give rise to different historical constructions. Furthermore, the development of exegesis in the Nusantara has undergone a transformation that can be understood through several periods from the early, medieval, modern, to contemporary periods which demonstrate the increasingly strong efforts to contextualize exegesis in line with societal developments. Thus, the historiography of exegesis serves not only as a reconstruction of the history of Qur’anic interpretation but also as a means of understanding the dynamics of the development of Islamic thought from one era to the next.

Abstract

This article explores the epistemological implications of translation within the discipline of tarjamat al-Qur’ān, with particular emphasis on the objectives of translation, translation models, and the qualifications of translators. Utilising a qualitative approach with a mixed-methods design, the study integrates document analysis, participant observation, and in-depth interviews with translators, validators, and members of the Bebaso-speaking community. The findings indicate a shift in the orientation of Qur’anic translation from an originally educational-theological function towards an educational-cultural role, wherein the translation of the Qur’an serves as a tool for language documentation, identity reinforcement, and the symbolic legitimisation of local languages. In relation to translation models, the study identifies a hybrid and layered pattern of tarjamat al-Qur’ān that employs Indonesian as an intermediary language, necessitating a multi-tiered mechanism of meaning control through processes of verification, validation, and reference to authoritative exegetical sources. Regarding translator qualifications, the research reveals a transition from the paradigm of an individual mutarjim possessing comprehensive competence to a collaborative and multidisciplinary translation model that distributes scholarly authority among team members. These findings demonstrate that the epistemology of tarjamat al-Qur’ān is dynamic and responsive to socio-cultural contexts, while maintaining adherence to the normative principles of fidelity to meaning and theological caution in engaging with divine revelation.
