Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The increase in world nickel demand has prompted the Indonesian government to implement downstream policies to increase the added value of mineral commodities before they are exported to the international market. This study aims to analyze the influence of downstream policies, exchange rates, production levels, and international prices on Indonesia's nickel export volume with global demand as a mediating variable. The research uses a quantitative approach with secondary data for the period 2015–2024 obtained from various official institutions such as the Central Statistics Agency, Bank Indonesia, TradeMap, and the World Trade Organization. The analysis was carried out based on international trade theory, comparative advantage theory, Heckscher-Ohlin theory, value-added theory, and derived demand theory. The results of the study show that the downstream policy contributes to increasing the competitiveness of Indonesia's nickel exports through increasing the added value of products. Production levels have an important influence in maintaining the sustainability of export supply, while exchange rates and international prices affect the competitiveness of Indonesian products in the global market. Global demand has proven to be a mechanism that strengthens the relationship between these variables and export volumes. The findings of the study show that the success of Indonesia's nickel exports is not only determined by production and price factors, but also influenced by government policies and international market dynamics.

Abstract

The decline in the effectiveness of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) tariff preference scheme and the dynamics of export product competitiveness raise questions about the factors that influence Indonesia's export performance. This study aims to analyze the influence of GSP tariff preferences, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and export competitiveness as measured by the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) index on Indonesia's Crude Palm Oil (CPO, HS 1511.10) export performance to India during the 2010–2024 period. The study uses a quantitative associative-causal approach with the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) method based on secondary data obtained from UNCTAD, the World Bank, and the ITC Trade Map. The results show that GSP tariff preferences have no significant effect on export performance, while GDP and RCA have a positive and significant effect. Simultaneously, the three variables are able to explain 72.1% of the variation in export performance. In addition, RCA does not moderate the relationship between GSP and export performance, but significantly strengthens the influence of GDP on export performance. These findings indicate that Indonesia's improved export performance is more determined by strengthening economic capacity and product competitiveness than by solely utilizing preferential trade facilities. The research's implications emphasize the importance of enhancing industrial competitiveness and refining export policy strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Indonesian Migrant Workers' (PMI) remittances, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and nonmigrant labor on Indonesia's trade balance, both directly and through per capita income as a mediating variable. The research applies a quantitative method with a causal associative approach using annual secondary time series data of Indonesia for the 2012–2024 period sourced from the World Bank and Statistics Indonesia. The analysis was conducted using path analysis through two multiple linear regression models with SPSS version 25. The results show that, partially and simultaneously, PMI remittances, FDI, and nonmigrant labor have no significant effect on the trade balance, either directly or through the mediation of per capita income. Per capita income is the variable with the highest coefficient and t-value in the model, thus potentially representing the most economically dominant transmission channel, although it is not yet statistically significant. These findings indicate that the dynamics of Indonesia's trade balance during the study period were largely determined by factors outside the model.
