Abstract

IL-6 has been shown to enhance collagen synthesis and prolong the fibroblast proliferative phase, potentially contributing to uncontrolled keloid growth. However, despite its frequent mention in the literature as a crucial factor in keloid formation, studies specifically exploring the molecular mechanisms of IL-6 in fibroblast regulation and its interaction with other cytokines within keloid tissue remain limited. This study aims to further investigate the role of IL-6 in keloid matrix formation. This study is an analytical study conducted cross-sectionally. The samples used were patients diagnosed with keloids histopathologically based on microscopic criteria. Clinical data were taken from medical records and microscopic and immunohistochemical assessments using paraffin blocks available in the anatomical pathology laboratory of hospitals in Jambi city. There were 36 cases of keloids, aged between 12 and 42 years, mostly in women (66.7%), occurring in the trunk area (77.8%) 30 cases of recurrence (83.3%). We found 24 cases (77.8%) with strong IL-6 immunoexpression. There were 3 cases (8.3%) with no immunoexpression. There was a strong correlation between IL-6 immunoexpression and gender (p=0.03), age(0.04) and recurrence (p=0.02). The role of fibroblast cells is very important for the process of collagen formation in wound healing. The role of fibroblast cells is very important for the process of collagen formation in wound healing, where interleukin-6 in various theories and studies supports the process of collagen formation.

Abstract

ABSTRACTAn important aspect in improving quality of life is bone and joint health, especially as you age. Degenerative disorders in orthopedics such as osteoporosis have become a significant public health problem. Osteoporosis is characterized by a decrease in bone density, increasing the risk of bone fractures and causing various serious complications. For this reason, the service team carried out an activity in the form of counseling and osteoporosis exercises as well as conducting consultations regarding the participants' current disease complaints, especially problems related to osteoporosis in the sub-district services of the city across Jambi. Increase knowledge about degenerative diseases and types of food that are related to the causes of osteoporosis. This begins with osteoporosis exercises and continues with education about degenerative disorders and types of food related to osteoporosis. Participants were given pretest and posttest questions to measure knowledge about degenerative disorders and types of food related to osteoporosis. There was an increase in the number of correct points during the post-test compared to the pretest.Key words: degenerative disorders, osteoporosis, nutrition ABSTRAKAspek penting dalam meningkatkan kualitas hidup adalah Kesehatan tulang dan sendi terutama ditengah pertambahan usia. Abstract

Burns are a serious injury that requires effective therapy to accelerate the healing process. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of 25% ethanol extract of areca nut (Areca catechu L.) on healing second-degree burns in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). The extract was obtained through a maceration method and characterized for its secondary metabolite content. A total of 25 rats were divided into five groups: a negative control (Vaseline flavum), a positive control (Bioplacenton®), and three treatment groups with extract concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 6%. The topical preparation was applied daily for 21 days, then clinical observations were carried out in the form of wound diameter measurements and histopathological analysis (re-epithelialization, collagenization, angiogenesis, and the number of fibroblasts). Phytochemical results showed that the extract contained flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, phenols, and steroids. Clinically, the treatment group with a concentration of 6% showed the greatest reduction in wound diameter (56.6%) compared to the low concentration extract group and the negative control, although not exceeding the positive control. Histological analysis showed more even re-epithelialization, increased fibroblasts, and a more organized collagen fiber arrangement in the 6% group. These findings indicate that a 25% ethanol extract of areca nut has the potential to accelerate burn wound healing through antioxidant, antimicrobial, astringent, and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, although its effectiveness is still below standard therapy. Further research is needed to optimize the dosage and formulation for its development as an affordable, natural-based alternative phytotherapy.

Abstract

Low back pain is a common degenerative illness among the elderly, significantly impacting their quality of life and independence. Insufficient understanding of effective management frequently worsens the disease. The objective of this community service program was to enhance comprehension of low back pain among elderly and their caregivers at the Olak Kemang Public Health Centre in Jambi City. The programme consisted of an instructional session with 41 participants utilising a multidisciplinary-developed interactive visual module, accompanied by a practical demonstration of stretching exercises. A pre- and post-test design was used to quantitatively evaluate the alteration in participants' knowledge. The data were examined with the Wilcoxon and Pearson chi-square tests. The findings indicated a statistically significant enhancement in participants' knowledge, with the median score increasing from 60 (range: 30-80) in the pre-test to 85 (range: 50-100) in the post-test (p < 0.001). The number of participants who attained a passing score (≥70%) rose considerably from 19 to 31 (p = 0.007). The interactive visual education program effectively enhances awareness regarding lowback pain among the elderly and their caregivers. This strategy is highly recommended for implementation in other community health programs. Keywords: Low back pain; caregiver; health education; elderly

Abstract

The incorporation of mangrove leaf powder into food systems offers an emerging strategy for enhancing the functional value of confectionery products. This study evaluated the effects of Sonneratia alba (S. alba) mangrove-leaf powder on the physicochemical properties, antioxidant capacity, and sensory quality of dark chocolate. Leaves were processed into fine 60-mesh powder and added at concentrations of 0–5.5% (w/w). The analytical assessments included moisture content, total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant activity using the DPPH method, CIELAB colour parameters, texture hardness, and consumer acceptance. The product underwent enrichment with S. alba produced significant (p < 0.05) increases in TPC (49.06–64.37 mg GAE/g) and antioxidant activity (60.45–69.45%). A strong linear relationship between TPC and DPPH inhibition (R² = 0.934) indicated that phenolics contributed directly to enhanced radical-scavenging performance. Colour measurements showed elevated a* and b* values with increasing leaf concentration, reflecting intensified red–yellow chromaticity from plant pigments. Meanwhile, hardness decreased from 135.33 to 98.95 g/F, suggesting that fibre components disrupted fat crystallisation and softened the chocolate matrix. Sensory evaluation demonstrated that intermediate enrichment levels (4.5%–5.5%) provided the most favourable consumer responses, yielding the highest scores for flavour, texture, and overall acceptance. Collectively, these results indicate that powder from S. alba leaves serves as an effective natural fortifying agent capable of improving the functional profile of dark chocolate without compromising sensory desirability. The findings highlight opportunities to use mangrove biomass as a sustainable, phenolic-rich ingredient for developing clean-label, functional chocolate products.
