<![CDATA[Workshop of Test of English Proficiency on Lecturers of Universitas Prof. Dr. Hazairin, SH Bengkulu This community service was aimed to improve the ability of the test of English proficiency (TOEP) the lecturers of Prof. Dr. Hazairin, SH University by practicing listening and reading skills. In addition, this activity was provided participants with insight into easy ways or tips and tricks when dealing with listening and reading questions in the TOEP with the aimed of increasing the participant's TOEP score. The method used was a lecture, discussion/question and answer, and practice. Participants who were the target of this training were lecturers who had not yet passed the lecturer certification. Pre-test at the beginning of the activity and post-test at the end of the activity carried out as an instrument for evaluating community service activities. The results of these community service activities indicated that there were differences in the ability scores of the trainees before and after the training. The pre-test results showed that the maximum score for TOEP was 405, the average score was 266.5 and the minimum score was 205. While the post-test results showed that the maximum score for participants' TOEP was 465, the average score was 393.5 and the minimum score was 360. Increasing the participant's TOEP score showed that the training activity was successful.]]>

<![CDATA[ABSTRACT In the learning process of teachers still have a very important role in transferring knowledge to their students. In addition, success in teaching is greatly influenced by student learning activities. A teacher must have the ability to empathize, be a unique listener, and can be a facilitator for students in solving their problems by themselves.This research was a descriptive qualitative. The purpose of this research is to increase students’ vocabulary mastery by using crossword puzzle method. The subject of this research were 10 students. It consists of fourth (4) Males and six (6) Females. The instrument of this study a vocabulary test are interview and questionnaire. Based on the results of the interviewfirst, only 60% of students who do not like English because it is considered difficult and 40% like English because it is considered easy. Second, half of or 50% of students memorize a lot of vocabulary and half or 50% don't memorize a lot of vocabulary. Third, all students or 100% of students state that teachers who teach in class are boring and monotonous. The fourth is that all students or 100% know about crosswords. Based on the results of the questionnaire the highest percentage or 100% who answered "Yes" is in the second statement "crossword puzzle method is very excited. While the lowest percentage or 30% who answered" Yes "is the seventh statement" I was very excited by learning English vocabulary ". Furthermore, the highest percentage or 70% for those who answered" No "was the statement to the full" I was very excited by learning English vocabulary ". And the last lowest percentage or 20% who answered"]]>

<![CDATA[In the current era of globalization which is full of challenges and competition, not only high level of education, but everyone is required to have special skills. One of the skill that medical record students must possess is English. This of course makes many students find it difficult to meet the standard of TOEFL score because lack of understanding in English by some students. Through TOEFL training, participants will get listening, writing, and reading tests. The method used in this community service is a descriptive method through a qualitative approach. This method was chosen because it presents data systematically and accurately regarding the facts in the field. Based on the data, it shows that more than 50%, namely 87.5% (21 students) have a TOEFL score above the criteria, which is 425 indicating that there is an increase in the TOEFL score after the training.]]>

<![CDATA[This socialization aims to provide provision for English students who will take part in the second internship program at school. The socialization and debriefing will be held on Monday 17 October 2022 in the C4 learning building at 08.00-14.00 WIB. The participants for apprentice II were all semester V students. Implementation of socialization and debriefing of apprentice II program for English students at Prof. Dr. Hazairin SH through the lecture method. Internship Program IIaims to strengthen educational academic competence and linkageswith academic competence in the field of study as well as determining the initial abilities of prospective teachers in developing learning tools through: reviewing the curriculum and learning tools used by teachers, reviewing learning strategies, reviewing evaluation systems, compiling and developing Learning Implementation Plans (RPP), developing learning media, developing teaching materials in accordance with the lesson plans; and development of evaluation tools in accordance with the objectives. Implementation of socialization and debriefing of apprentice program II for English students at the University of Prof. Dr. Hazairin SH makes students able to design learning tools, namely studying the curriculum, designing syllabus, and designing learning plans as well as being able to know the school environment carefully.]]>

<![CDATA[The study explores local value/wisdom and the cultural views of Bengkulu people, which is dealing with the teaching materials for reading skill. This study aims to develop reading materials in the basis of on local value that are effective, valid, and practical for English major students. This is a research and development (RnD) using ADDIE model applied to the Students of the English Language Study Program Semester IV, Universitas Prof. Dr. Hazairin, SH Bengkulu. The results of the study show that the teaching materials for reading skill based on the local wisdom has been developed is valid, practical and effective. It is based on the expert’s and validator’s evaluation and proved that the learning outcomes reaching 92.5% of all learning outcomes are valid and feasible. The practicability of the product showed based on the students’ responses which is gained the achievement of student activities reached ≥ 75% of the 5 observed activity indicators, while the average response of all students reached 80%. It indicates that students responded positively reaching ≥ 75%.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to determine the difference between using role-play and debate methods on students' speaking skills in English subject. This study is quantitative research with a comparative study method. The sample of this study was the students of XI IIS3 and XI MIA1 at one of the top-favourite private schools in one of the developed regencies in West Borneo. The researchers applied a performance test to collect the data while the T-test was used to analyze the data. The result revealed there was a significant difference between using role-play and debate toward the students' speaking skills. It can be seen from the significant difference in the comparison of their average values. In the role-play method, the average value is 62.11 while in the debate is 51.82. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the role-play method is better than the debate method in an EFL setting. However, this study realizes that it happens because the role-play method offers a flexible chance for the students to ask for help during the preparation of the speech production.]]>

<![CDATA[Pelatihan TOEFL merupakan salah satu langkah strategis dalam mempersiapkan mahasiswa menghadapi dunia kerja, terutama di era globalisasi yang semakin kompetitif. Artikel ini membahas pelaksanaan program pelatihan TOEFL bagi mahasiswa semester 8 Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP) Universitas Prof. Dr. Hazairin (UNIHAZ) yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mereka. Program ini dilaksanakan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, dengan tahapan pre-test, pelatihan intensif, dan post-test yang mencakup empat keterampilan utama TOEFL: listening, reading, speaking, dan writing. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada kemampuan bahasa Inggris peserta, terutama pada keterampilan listening dan reading. Peningkatan ini membuktikan efektivitas pelatihan dalam membekali mahasiswa untuk menghadapi tes TOEFL dan tantangan dunia kerja yang membutuhkan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris. Namun, tantangan terkait dengan variasi latar belakang kemampuan bahasa Inggris peserta masih menjadi perhatian dalam pelatihan ini. Kesimpulannya, pelatihan ini berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa dan memberikan kesiapan lebih baik dalam memasuki dunia kerja global. ]]>

<![CDATA[Penulisan karya ilmiah yang berkualitas memerlukan pengelolaan referensi yang baik dan efisien. Salah satu perangkat yang dapat membantu mahasiswa dalam mengelola referensi adalah Mendeley, sebuah alat manajemen referensi yang memungkinkan penulis untuk mengatur sitasi dan daftar pustaka secara otomatis. Pelatihan penggunaan Mendeley pada mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP Unihaz bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam menyusun karya ilmiah dengan menggunakan teknologi yang efektif dalam pengelolaan referensi. Pelatihan ini diikuti oleh 30 mahasiswa dan dilakukan melalui sesi pengenalan serta praktik langsung penggunaan Mendeley dalam penulisan karya ilmiah. Metode yang digunakan adalah pelatihan berbasis praktek, di mana peserta diberikan pemahaman dasar tentang fitur-fitur Mendeley dan dilatih untuk mengaplikasikannya dalam penulisan ilmiah. Sebelum dan setelah pelatihan, dilakukan tes untuk mengukur pemahaman dan keterampilan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan Mendeley. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam pemahaman dan keterampilan mahasiswa, yang tercermin dari perbandingan nilai pre-test dan post-test, serta umpan balik positif dari peserta. Mahasiswa melaporkan peningkatan efisiensi dalam proses penulisan karya ilmiah mereka, berkat kemudahan yang ditawarkan Mendeley dalam pengelolaan referensi. Berdasarkan temuan ini, pelatihan penggunaan Mendeley sudah berkontribusi pada peningkatan kualitas penulisan ilmiah di FKIP Unihaz dan sudah diterapkan di institusi pendidikan lain untuk mendukung pengembangan kemampuan akademik mahasiswa.]]>

<![CDATA[This study explores the mastery of the simple present and present progressive tenses among second-semester Counseling Guidance students at Universitas Prof. Dr. Hazairin, SH, Bengkulu. The purpose of the study is to assess students ability to use these tenses correctly in both written and spoken forms. A mixed-methods approach was employed, consisting of a grammar test to evaluate students' written proficiency and structured interviews to assess their spoken usage. The results revealed that while students showed relatively high proficiency in using the simple present tense, their performance with the present progressive tense was weaker. Common errors identified included confusion between the two tenses, omission of auxiliary verbs, and incorrect verb forms. These findings suggest that students have a solid grasp of the simple present tense but face difficulties with the present progressive tense, largely due to the absence of similar tense forms in their native language. The study concludes that targeted grammar instruction, particularly focused on the present progressive tense, is essential. It also recommends incorporating task-based learning and form-focused instruction to enhance grammatical accuracy. The findings offer valuable insights into tense acquisition among Indonesian EFL learners and have implications for improving English grammar teaching practices at the university level.]]>

<![CDATA[Masalah stunting masih menjadi tantangan serius di berbagai wilayah, termasuk di desa Sri Kuncoro, kecamatan Pondok Kelapa, Bengkulu Tengah. Rendahnya pemahaman masyarakat mengenai gizi seimbang serta kurangnya keterjangkauan informasi dengan bahasa yang mudah dipahami menjadi salah satu penyebab utama. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat tentang pentingnya gizi dalam pencegahan stunting melalui pendekatan edukatif menggunakan bahasa lokal. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini meliputi sosialisasi gizi, distribusi buku saku, penyuluhan dengan media visual, dan diskusi interaktif dengan ibu-ibu serta kader kesehatan setempat. Seluruh materi disampaikan menggunakan bahasa daerah setempat agar lebih komunikatif dan mudah diterima oleh peserta. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman peserta terhadap pentingnya asupan gizi pada masa kehamilan dan usia dini anak, serta meningkatnya partisipasi aktif dalam Posyandu dan praktik pemberian makanan bergizi di lingkungan keluarga. Pendekatan penggunaan bahasa lokal terbukti mampu menjembatani kesenjangan komunikasi antara pendidik dan masyarakat sasaran, serta membangun kedekatan emosional yang mendukung perubahan perilaku. Kegiatan ini menyimpulkan bahwa edukasi gizi berbasis bahasa lokal merupakan strategi efektif dalam mempercepat penanganan stunting pada masyarakat pedesaan yang memiliki karakteristik budaya dan bahasa tersendiri.]]>
