Abstract

One of the key components of the Early Childhood Development Achievement Standards is language development, which includes receptive language, expressive language, and early literacy skills. These abilities serve as the foundation for children's cognitive, social, and emotional development. Children's language acquisition is strongly influenced by social and cultural environments, as daily interactions constitute the primary source of linguistic stimulation. This study aimed to compare the language development of children aged 4–5 years in two early childhood education institutions with different environmental characteristics, namely an environment with diverse access to communication and learning resources and a relatively homogeneous environment. This research employed a quantitative comparative design using a purposive sampling technique. Specific criteria were applied in selecting participants to ensure that both groups possessed comparable characteristics. Data were collected through structured observations using a language development instrument based on the Early Childhood Development Achievement Standards. Descriptive statistics were used to provide an overview of children's language development, while an independent samples t-test was conducted to examine the significance of differences between the two groups. The findings revealed differences in the level of language development between children from the two educational settings. Children at TK Al-Barokah, Kedungkarang Village, demonstrated a higher average level of language development than children at TK Cendekia, Bapangan, Jepara. These differences were reflected in children's abilities to comprehend language, express opinions, and communicate actively during daily learning activities. The differences may be attributed to variations in language stimulation, the intensity of social interactions, and access to learning media and educational resources. Environments with more complex communication opportunities tend to provide richer language stimulation, whereas more homogeneous environments tend to produce language patterns that are more limited yet contextually grounded. The study concludes that environmental factors play a significant role in shaping early childhood language development and highlights the importance of designing contextual and adaptive learning strategies to support children's language growth.

Abstract

This study aims to examine illocutionary speech acts used in the context of religious abuse. This problem is examined in pragmatics, specifically through illocutionary speech acts. This study aims to identify and describe the types of illocutionary speech acts in the context of religious abuse in digital media. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a pragmatic theoretical approach. Data were obtained through the listening-and-note-taking method from the video series "#ESCAPE - Raymond Chin X Ustadz Felix Siauw," which focuses on religious abuse, and then analyzed using the matching method. The results of the study indicate the presence of illocutionary speech acts, namely assertive, directive, expressive, commissive, and declarative used to convey certain intentions. These speech acts not only function as linguistic and educational tools, but also encourage critical thinking among the audience and have the potential to shape opinions. The dominant illocutionary speech act in the video is the assertive type. This is because the speaker mostly delivers statements, explanations, and arguments to provide information. This study contributes to the development of pragmatic research and increases public critical awareness of sensitive issues.

Abstract

This study aims to examine more deeply Jean Piaget's cognitive learning theory and its implications for Javanese language learning in Javanese script material in accordance with the level of thinking of elementary school-age children. This research is a type of quantitative research through a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study approach. Data collection techniques in this study through tests, interviews with teachers, observations, and questionnaires to find out information related to student problems in learning Javanese characters. The problem was found that students had difficulty in reading and writing Javanese characters which stemmed from factors; (1) the difficulty of the Javanese script form which is difficult to distinguish between one letter and several other letters, (2) the non-use of Javanese characters in daily reading and writing activities today, (3) the use of Javanese script learning media that is not appropriate. The sampling technique in this study was carried out using purposive sampling. The results of this study indicate that the cognitive development of children at the concrete operational age stage (7-12 years) in learning Javanese language Javanese script material in elementary schools is adjusted to the age stage, which begins in grade III SD by learning the initial Javanese script (legena script). This is in accordance with the implementation of Jean Piaget's learning theory. It refers to how people grow, adjust, and change over the course of their lives through physical development, personality development, socioemotional development, cognition (thinking) development, and language development.   In addition to the level of understanding, the models and methods and treatments used also vary. The results of this research can be the basis for teachers to teach so that learning becomes more effective, efficient, and on target. Moreover, to realize the achievement of national education goals

Abstract

Folklore learning in Javanese language subjects plays an important role in preserving local culture while instilling character values in students. However, “students’’ understanding of folklore still needs improvement because learning activities tend to be teacher-centered and provide limited opportunities for active student participation. This study aimed to determine the effect of the storytelling method on students’ understanding of folklore in Javanese language learning among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Pecangaan Wetan. The study employed a quantitative approach using an experimental method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample consisted of 33 students selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using validated and reliable pretest and posttest instruments. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the Paired Sample T-Test. The results showed that the mean pretest score of 73.1 increased to 91.7 in the posttest. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed, with significance values of 0.406 for the pretest and 0.379 for the posttest. The Paired Sample T-Test revealed a significance value of p < 0.001, indicating that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, the storytelling method has a significant effect on ‘‘students” understanding of folklore and can be used as an effective alternative teaching method in Javanese language learning at the elementary school level.
