Abstract

SDIT Tahfidzul Qur'an Mutiara Insan Sukoharjo is an Islamic school that aims to correlate science with the Qur'an. One approach is through observing celestial objects, but the school currently lacks a telescope to provide students with hands-on experience. This community service program aims to educate participants about space using Stellarium simulation software and direct observation of celestial objects with a telescope. The program was carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The activities were attended by 9 teachers and 120 students. The program included educational sessions on utilizing telescopes for celestial observation, which successfully increased participants' enthusiasm for learning about celestial objects. The use of Stellarium software provided participants with a new experience by simulating various functions to display visualizations of celestial phenomena. Telescope-based observation also became a novel experience, with many participants eager to try observing through the telescope. The high level of enthusiasm among participants indicates that similar activities should be conducted regularly to boost motivation in learning about celestial objects.

Abstract

The rapid development of Balikpapan City has an impact on the increasingly high demand for land for urban expansion needs. The expansion of Balikpapan City is more directed towards coastal areas which are dominated by mangrove forests. This study discusses the destruction of the mangrove forest and its causal factors and how conservation efforts are being carried out to maintain sustainability. Mangrove forest damage data obtained through surveys and image analysis using NDVI. While the factors causing the damage to mangrove forests were obtained from observations and interviews with the mangrove center manager of Balikpapan. The results showed that there were many mangrove forests that had rare or already damaged that were spread in the West Balikpapan, North Balikpapan, and East Balikpapan Sub-district. This damage is caused by natural and non-natural factors. Natural factors that cause damage to mangrove forests are pests and sedimentation. The non-natural factors are due to the pollution and the opening of fish ponds. Preservation efforts are carried out by replanting mangroves which are only carried out by the mangrove center and some CSR and environmentalists and do not involve the community at large. These Conditions make the mangrove forest in Balikpapan City threatened its sustainability.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates how environmental education influences students’ behavior in responding to climate change at State Senior High School 1 Gondang. By examining this relationship, the research seeks to demonstrate the strategic role that integrated environmental education can play in fostering adaptive attitudes and actions among adolescents facing increasingly frequent flooding disasters in Indonesia. Methodology: Employing a quantitative design, the study surveyed 289 students selected via stratified random sampling to ensure representation across grade levels. Data collection combined structured questionnaires—measuring both exposure to environmental education and self‐reported climate‐response behaviors—with school documentation on program implementation. Analyses comprised descriptive statistics to categorize variable levels and a Pearson product–moment correlation test to assess the strength and significance of the relationship between environmental education and climate‐responsive behavior. Results: The descriptive analysis placed the environmental education variable in the moderate category (46%) and the climate‐response behavior variable in the sufficient category (34%). The correlation test yielded a significance value of 0.00 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.527, reflecting a moderately strong positive relationship. These findings confirm that higher levels of environmental education are associated with more proactive student attitudes toward climate change. Applications/Originality/Value: By providing empirical evidence of the positive impact of environmental education on students’ climate‐ responsive behaviors, this study underscores the importance of curriculum designers and school administrators embedding targeted environmental modules into secondary education. The results offer a practical framework for schools seeking to enhance resilience education and inform policymakers on the value of scaling up environmental programs to mitigate the human and economic costs of climate‐induced disasters.
