Rubber plant (Hevea brasiliensis) cultivation techniques against pests and diseases in Tanjung Batu District, Ogan Ilir Regency. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-10 Tahun 2022, Palembang  27 Oktober 2022. pp. 898-909. Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Rubber plant (Hevea brasiliensis) is a plantation crop with high economic value and one of the important agricultural commodities in the international environment and also in Indonesia. Geographical compatibility conditions and soil types that support the growth of rubber plants (Hevea brasiliensis), make farmers in Tanjung Batu District use their land to cultivate rubber plants. Plant-disturbing organisms (OPT) are one of the obstacles encountered in rubber cultivation activities which interfere with growth and affect the yield of rubber latex production. The use of pesticides is mostly done by farmers who think they can get fast and practical results. The purpose of this study aims to evaluate farmers in rubber cultivation techniques against pests and diseases in Tanjung Batu District. This research was conducted from May to July 2022. The method used to observe rubber plants was using a simple purposive sampling method. The results of research on rubber farmers have different planting methods. The observed rubber farmers have the status of profit-sharing land. To increase rubber resistance to pests and diseases, fertilization and sanitation are carried out. Pests and diseases found on farmer's land, namely, leaf fall disease and termite pests.

In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-10 Tahun 2022, Palembang 27 Oktober 2022. pp. 1049-1056. Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).The cause of damage to chili plants is caused by plant pest organisms (OPT), including mite-type pest organisms (Acariformes). This study aimed to inventory the types of mites that attack chili plants. Field research has been carried out on chili plants in three villages namely Timbangan Village, Pulau Semambu Village, and Palemraya Village, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra and Laboratory observations were carried out at the Entomology Laboratory of the Plant Protection Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research was conducted starting on August 26 to September 8, 2022. Sampling was carried out descriptively and data collection in the field was carried out in a survey with systematic random sampling technique at the observation location. Sampling of chili plants was selected when the chili plants had entered the production phase which showed symptoms of attack on chili. Samples of mites were taken from the leaves and individual mites were taken and then observed under a microscope. The results obtained from all samples showed that the red mites (Tetranycus sp.) and yellow mites (Polyphagotarsonemus latus) were the red mites (Tetranycus sp.) and yellow mites (P.latus). From the samples taken from the survey in three villages, two species of mites were found. Of the 7 samples that have been identified, a red mite species (Tetranycus sp) was found in the first village located in Timbangan Village. In the second village, located in Palemraya Village, from 5 samples that have been identified, a yellow mite species (P.latus) was found. The last village, located in Pulau Semambu Village, found the same species as Palemraya Village, namely the yellow mite (P.latus). The mites found in the study in the chili area in three villages in Ogan Ilir were mites of the species Tetranycus sp and P.latus. Mite control in chili can be done biologically by utilizing natural enemies of mites such as the beetle Amblysiuscucumeris Oriusminutes, Coccinellidae Coccinellarepanda.

Spodoptera frugiperda attack level on corn plants in Batu Belang Dua Village, Muaradua Distric. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-11 Tahun 2023, Palembang 21 Oktober 2023.  (pp. 275–284). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Corn (Zea mays L) is one of the food crops and the main source of income for Indonesian people, especially in South Sumatra, however, people's income has decreased due to a significant Spodoptera frugiperda attack. This research aimed to determine the percentage intensity of Spodoptera frugiperda pest attacks in Batu Belang Dua village. The research method used in this research is the survey method through direct observation in the field. The data collected is primary data in the form of direct observation of symptoms in the field and secondary data obtained from farmer interviews. The results obtained from five corn farmers were of productive age, the farmers ranged in age from 30 years to 50 years with a land area of 1 ha. The highest Spodoptera frugiperda L. attack was on land 3 owned by Mr. Ahyar with an average of 16.43% and the lowest was on land 2 owned by Kartini with an average of 9.92%. So, the intensity of Spodoptera frugiperda attacks in Batu Belang Dua village showed that the highest attack was on land 3 belonging to Mr. Ahyar with an average of 16.43%, while the lowest attack was on land 2 belonging to Mrs. Kartini with an average of 9.92%. Therefore, farmers in Batu Belang Dua village must pay attention to the level of Spodoptera frugiperda pest attacking corn crops so that they do not experience very high economic losses.

Inventory of pest insects and predatory insects in long beans crops (Vigna sinensis L.) in Ogan Ilir District, South Sumatera. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-10 Tahun 2022, Palembang 27 Oktober 2022. pp. 414-422. Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Pest control on long bean plants by utilizing natural enemies is part of a control method that emphasizes ecological aspects that are safe and recommended. This study aimed to determine the presence and availability of insect pests and predatory insects in long bean plantations. The types of traps used in this study were Pitfall Trap, Yellow Trap, and Sweep Net. Observations and sampling were carried out in the vegetative phase of long bean plants in three villages: Tanjung Seteko, Tanjung Pering and Permata Villages. Then, the trapped insects were put into vials that had been given 70% alcohol and identified using identification guidebooks and journals. Based on the results of the research, the insect pests found were Agelastica alni, Aphis craccivora, Aulocophora similis, Aulacophora femoralis, Bactrocera triyoni, Bactrocera dorsalis, Nezara viridula, Proxys punctulatus, Riptortus linearis, Sehirus cenctus, Spodoptera litoralis, Maruca vitrata, Brachyplatys subaeneus, Dissosteira carolina. While the predatory insects found were Coccinella transversalis, Pantala flavescens, Proctacanthus milbertii, Stagmomantis carolina, Anax parthenope, Odontoponera denticulate and Oecophylla smaradigna. The highest number of insects obtained were from pests with a total of 14 species with the most from the order Hemiptera. Thus, the availability of insect pests and predators in long bean plantations is different because farmers apply synthetic insecticides so that pest insect species dominate. Based on the observations and analysis of the results, the authors suggest that this research can be redeveloped by making observations in two phases, namely the vegetative and generative phases.

The relationship of farmers' education level to pest and disease attacks in plant cultivation in South Sumatra. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang  21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 787–798).  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).The aimed of this research was to determine the behavior and understanding of farmers in using pesticides based on educational background. Pesticide is a poisonous chemical which is able to ruin human and animal health and also pollute the environment. The use of pesticide has to consider five properness i. e. proper target, proper active ingredient, proper time, proper dosage/concentration and proper equipment. Knowledge is one of factors affecting people behavior, including behavior in pesticide application. The less knowledge of farmers in pesticide application made them use too much pesticide which might cause degradation of environment and pesticide residue in agricultural products which is dangerous to consumers. Method applied in the study was an interview method using questionnaire to 180 farmers, followed by field observation in their field. 57% of respondents had Elementary School background, 20% had Junior High Scholl background, 23% had Senior High School background and one of them had university education background. The average score of pesticide use was 1,92 from farmers who graduated from bachelor, then the pesticide score of farmers who graduated from elementry school, junior high school, and high school had the same pesticide score of 2,39 and all education is categorized as good in using pesticides. The pesticide application score did not correlate with the presence of pest in the field but significanly correlate with the prsence of plant diseases. The highest plant disease intensity (26.55) was found in the farms belonged to farmers with elementary school backfround, while the lowest (6.61) was found in the field of farmer with university educational background.

Tricahyati, T., SHK., Suparman., Hamidson, H., Arsi, A., Agustin, V., Taqiyyuddin, M., Sari, Y.P.,  Silalahi, M. Y., Isnaini, H. A., Yahya, I. A. (2024). Inventory of diseases in corn (Zea mays L.) in Bakung Village, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.),Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang 21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 711–719).  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Indonesia is a country with abundant natural resources. Corn is the second main food crop after rice which is very useful for human and livestock life. This plant is also a type of grass plant with a monocotyledon seed type. However, the productivity and various benefits of corn can be disrupted by biotic and abiotic constraints. These biotic constraints are in the form of attacks by plant pests (OPT). This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of integrated OPT management used by corn farmers in Bakung Village, Indralaya District. This research method uses a purposive sampling method and farmer interviews through questionnaires. From the results of the study, three diseases were found in corn fields, namely leaf blight, leaf rust, and leaf spots. The disease samples found were then identified in the Phytopathology Laboratory of the Pest and Disease Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. Leaf blight disease is caused by the fungus Exserihilum turcicum, leaf rust disease is caused by Puccinia polysora Undrew, while leaf spot disease is caused by Helminthosporium sp. There are some farmers who implement PTT such as the application of planting distances that facilitate corn field sanitation, besides also inhibiting the transfer of pests and diseases to other corn plants. There are still many farmers who have not implemented Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and still use pesticides. Of the five farmers interviewed in Bakung Village, Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, not a single farmer knew about IPM.
