Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Sleep disturbance is one of the most frequent complaints among menopausal women, strongly associated with hormonal decline and vasomotor symptoms. While pharmacological treatments such as hormone therapy and benzodiazepines are effective, they also carry significant risks, including cardiovascular events, cancer, and cognitive decline. This has led to growing interest in safe, non-pharmacological interventions such as yoga. Method: This scoping review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Literature searches were conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, encompassing publications from 2015 to 2025. Eligible studies included original research that investigated yoga interventions targeting sleep quality among menopausal or postmenopausal women. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs), quasi-experimental studies, and observational studies were considered if validated measures of sleep quality were reported. Discussion: Yoga interventions, commonly practiced 2–3 sessions per week for 8–12 weeks, consistently demonstrated improvements in subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, and overall well-being. Some studies also reported reductions in anxiety, depression, and vasomotor symptoms. The underlying mechanisms are likely multifactorial, including regulation of the autonomic nervous system, reduction of sympathetic activity, promotion of parasympathetic balance, and hormonal modulation. When compared with other non-pharmacological interventions such as Tai Chi and Qigong, yoga showed comparable benefits. Hormone therapy remains the most effective for vasomotor-related insomnia, yet yoga offers a safer long-term alternative with no reported serious adverse effects. Conclusion: Yoga is a safe, feasible, and effective non-pharmacological intervention to improve sleep quality in menopausal women and may serve as a complementary option alongside conventional treatments.

Abstract

Population growth has contributed to gout becoming a global health issue with a significant prevalence rate. According to WHO data in 2017, the global prevalence of gout reached 34.2%. In Indonesia, the prevalence of doctor-diagnosed gout among the population aged ≥ 15 years reached 7.30%, with Bali recording 10.46% and Buleleng Regency reaching 12.93% (Riskesdas, 2018). WHO has recognized Body Mass Index (BMI) as the best epidemiological measure to evaluate overweight or underweight and is a potential risk factor for various metabolic problems, including increased uric acid levels. This study aimed to determine the relationship between BMI and uric acid levels at Kubutambahan II Public Health Center in 2025. This study used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach, aiming to analyze the relationship between variables at a single point in time. Secondary data were used, consisting of medical records with a sample size of 45 patients. Data analysis included univariate analysis to determine the frequency distribution of the independent variable (BMI) and dependent variable (uric acid levels), as well as bivariate analysis using the Spearman correlation test to examine the relationship between the two variables. The results showed a weak positive correlation between BMI and uric acid levels, with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.344 (0.20-0.399) which Indicated an increase in BMI tends to be followed by an increase in uric acid levels. The results also showed a p- value of 0.021 (< 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between BMI and uric acid levels.

Abstract

Abstract

Lactobacillus plantarum is one of the lactic acid bacteria that dominates during the natural fermentation of cassava. It can also be used as a single starter culture for cassava fermentation, producing modified cassava flour with improved physical and functional properties. As the main component of cassava flour, starch is expected to contribute to the changes that occur during fermentation. However, limited information is available regarding the effect of L. plantarum fermentation on cassava starch.  This study aimed to determine the effects of inoculum concentration and fermentation time on the physical and functional properties of cassava starch fermented using L. plantarum. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete factorial design with two factors: inoculum concentration (1, 2, and 3% v/v) and fermentation time (24, 48, and 64 hours).  Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of the starch samples showed no changes in granule morphology. Statistical analysis demonstrated that neither inoculum concentration nor fermentation time significantly affected bulk density, water absorption capacity (WAC), oil absorption capacity (OAC), swelling power, or solubility at 65, 70, 75, 80, 90, and 95 °C. However, fermentation time significantly affected starch solubility at 85 °C (p < 0.05). These results indicate that starch may not be the only component influencing the physical and functional properties of fermented cassava starch.
