Abstract

This study aims to identify the larvicidal potential of Eleutherine palmifolia (Dayak onion) and Allium sativum (garlic), which are rich in flavonoids and known to possess insecticidal properties. The study used a pure experimental design with a post-test control group. Aedes aegypti larvae were tested with Eleutherine palmifolia and Allium sativum extracts at concentrations of 0.6%, 1.2%, and 1.8%, respectively, along with abate as a positive control. Larval mortality was monitored for 24 hours with four replicates. The results showed that Allium sativum was highly effective at all concentrations (99–100% mortality), even at the 0.6% concentration. In contrast, Eleutherine palmifolia exhibited varying effectiveness, with mortality rates of 67%, 67%, and 84% at concentrations of 0.6%, 1.2%, and 1.8%, respectively. These findings confirm that Allium sativum has superior, consistent, and stable larvicidal effectiveness even at low doses, making it a promising alternative for mosquito control and dengue prevention.

Abstract

Introduction: Malignant pilomatricoma is a type of cancer that is rarely found. There are no standard guidelines for treating this condition. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of wide excision combined with adjuvant radiation therapy in optimizing the management of malignant pilomatricoma. Case Presentation: A 50-year-old male presented with a complaint of a growing mass on his head for the past four years. Subsequently, the patient underwent wide excision surgery and flap reconstruction. Based on histopathological examination, the mass was revealed to be a malignant pilomatricoma. Following this, the patient received radiation therapy using External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT) at a total dosage of 70 Gy over 35 sessions. The patient did not report any complaints during the 3-year follow-up.Conclusion: The combination of wide excision and adjuvant radiation therapy showed positive results in managing malignant pilomatricoma, with no recurrence or metastasis over three years of follow-up. These results suggest that radiation therapy may play a role in optimizing disease control after surgery. Further research is needed to establish more effective treatment guidelines

Abstract

Background: Molar pregnancy is a benign condition with the dominant symptom being dark brown to bright red bleeding from the vagina. This disease can induce hyperthyroidism and result in pulmonary hypertension. This case report describes a patient who had molar pregnancy with thyrotoxicosis and pulmonary hypertension.Case: A 30-year-old woman presented with complaints of lower abdominal pain for the last month. The patient feels that her stomach has enlarged in the last 3 months. Other complaints include bleeding and observed bubbles from the birth canal, shortness of breath, and chest pain. The serum cobas β-hCG level of 7954.00 mIU/mL. On abdominal ultrasound examination, vesicles formed a honeycomb appearance, measuring 7.4 cm×5.3 cm. Hematologic laboratory tests revealed low TSH levels (<0.01 μIU/mL), T3 levels of 2.35 ng/ml, and FT4 levels of 2.62 ng/dL. The results of the echocardiography examination showed there is a high probability of pulmonary hypertension. Conclusion: Molar pregnancy can exacerbate thyrotoxicosis through hCG activity. Smoking and breastfeeding also have similar effects. Consequently, increased thyroid hormone levels can worsen or cause pulmonary hypertension.

Abstract

Communities in the Air Dingin, Pekanbaru City, have a variety of sources of livelihood, and one of them is home-based businesses or micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in various sectors, both services, and products. However, many of these businesses have not developed optimally, especially in terms of promotion and sales. This is supported by the low level of technology literacy among business owners so that digital promotion and sales are not carried out optimally. Seeing this, Riau University students who are members of the Abdimas Integrated Kukerta (real work course) 2022 team carried out real work course to the people of the Air Dingin village to disseminate digital marketing channels to increase the creative economic potential of the Air Dingin village. The Kukerta team also assists to increase promotion and sales by designing product packaging and various important components that are included, as well as creating product sales accounts on various digital marketing channels such as Instagram, Facebook, and Whatsapp. In addition to improving the regional creative economy, this activity is also expected to introduce regional potential.

Abstract

Background : Water quality is vital for maternal health. In Indonesia, consuming untreated or lowquality water may increase anemia risk in pregnant women. Objective : This study examined the relationship between drinking water sources and hemoglobin levels and identified factors influencing water source selection. Research Methods / Implementation Methods : A cross-sectional study of 72 pregnant women was conducted at Palaran Health Center, Samarinda (Dec 2024–Jan 2025). Data on sociodemographics and drinking water sources were collected via questionnaire, while hemoglobin levels were obtained from laboratory records. Due to non-normal data distribution (p < 0.05), the Kruskal–Wallis test with post hoc comparisons was applied. Determinants of water source selection were analyzed using multinomial logistic regression. Results : Most respondents (76.4%) consumed unboiled refilled gallon water, which was associated with significantly lower hemoglobin levels than bottled or PDAM water (p = 0.002). The logistic model was significant (χ² = 75.233, df = 54, p = 0.030; Nagelkerke R² = 0.811). Significant predictors of water source choice included number of pregnancies, abortion or fetal death history, delivery history, household income, mother’s and husband’s education levels (p < 0.05). Conclusion / Lesson Learned : Unboiled refilled gallon water consumption is linked to lower hemoglobin levels and higher anemia risk. Reproductive and socioeconomic factors influence water source selection. Education on safe water handling and boiling practices is essential to improve maternal hematologic health.
