Abstract

The application of the learning from the home system (BDR) and the implementation of social distancing require teachers to develop mathematics learning resources by utilizing an environment close to students' daily lives. However, there are still many teachers who have difficulty developing learning resources that are suitable for students to apply. This study aimed to design a good, practical, and efficient ethnomathematical-based learning device by utilizing Pawon (kitchen) as a learning resource. Learning tools are designed by modifying the Borg and Gall development procedures, namely exploration, planning, development, initial revision, limited trial, final revision, and dissemination. The learning tools developed are then validated by media, material, and cultural experts, which are then tested on three teachers and 12 students. Data collection instruments in the form of exploration sheets and questionnaires. The analysis technique was carried out through quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis. The study results are that the design of the learning device developed meets the valid criteria as indicated by the percentage of assessments by material experts, media experts, practitioners, and cultural experts in Kulon Progo Regency, which reaches almost 100%. Practicality criteria based on assessments by teachers and students included in the excellent category and effective criteria based on the criteria reference assessment, more than 75% of students get scores above the minimum completeness criteria (KKM). The results of the development of ethnomathematical-based learning tools meet the criteria of being valid, practical, and effective for use in learning mathematics for elementary school students.

Abstract

Learning activity enhances learning effectiveness, including in differentiated instruction. This study analyzes student learning activity in mathematics using a differentiated approach in elementary schools. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with one mathematics teacher and 25 fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Tanjungharjo. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed through data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Observations show that differentiated mathematics learning has been well implemented. Key strengths include the availability of diverse learning resources, which are widely accessible and effectively utilized, and the provision of personalized and constructive feedback that supports student learning. However, challenges remain in defining clear and adaptable differentiated learning objectives and managing time effectively during lessons. Student activity is most evident in listening, where students show full engagement, while writing activities are less prominent, and oral participation remains moderate. Interviews indicate benefits such as increased engagement and better concept comprehension. Challenges include limited teacher training, varying student abilities, and restricted time for personalized instruction. Documentation analysis confirms alignment with differentiated learning principles, though inconsistencies exist. Challenges include time constraints, student ability differences, and resource needs. Teachers should undergo further training and refine time management strategies to enhance student engagement effectively.

Abstract

This study addresses the pressing need to develop critical thinking skills in young learners, which is essential for 21st-century education. Focusing on Indonesian elementary school mathematics teachers, this research provides new insights into the specific challenges they encounter a context that has been underexplored in the existing literature. The primary objective of this study is to identify the barriers these teachers face when integrating critical thinking skills into their mathematics instruction. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research employs open-ended online surveys, allowing participants to respond to their own words rather than selecting from predefined options. Convenience sampling was used to recruit participants, resulting in a sample of 114 teachers from ten provinces across Indonesia. Data from the surveys were analyzed thematically and inductively using constant comparative methods. The analysis identified that the major obstacles to integrating critical thinking skills into mathematics education were limitations related to time and resources (accounting for 71.34% of identified barriers), along with deficiencies in pedagogical knowledge, confidence, and skepticism about the expected outcomes. The findings of this study offer valuable insights into the considerations necessary for successfully incorporating critical thinking skills into elementary mathematics instruction and highlight the potential for enhancing teacher effectiveness in this area.

Abstract

This research aims to empirically determine whether the use of the process skills approach has an influence on the science learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at SDN in the Kulon Progo region. The research is of an experimental type and was conducted at SDN Kulon Progo, specifically in the fourth-grade classes. The sample was selected using Cluster Random Sampling technique. Data collection was done using a learning outcome test as the instrument, which consisted of only objective multiple-choice questions totaling 30 items. The normality test using the Lilliefors test indicated that both classes had a normal distribution. Subsequently, a homogeneity test was conducted, showing that both classes were homogeneous. The data was then analyzed using a t-test for hypothesis testing. The calculation results showed that the calculated t-value was 3.82, while the tabulated t-value at a significance level of α = 0.05 was 1.67. This means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and the research hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of the use of the process skills approach on the science learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in Kulon Progo

Abstract

The Pancasila Student Profile is a descriptive framework that formulates the characteristics, attitudes, and fundamental values that are expected to be embedded in every student in Indonesia. This profile is formed based on the appreciation and practice of Pancasila values as the moral and ideological foundation of the nation. The Pancasila student profile has six elements, including (1) faith, fear of God Almighty, and noble character, (2) independence, (3) mutual cooperation, (4) global diversity, (5) critical reasoning, and (6) creativity. Although the Pancasila student profile is integrated into all intracurricular, co-curricular, extracurricular and habituation activities at school, the assessment of the Pancasila student profile is more focused on co-curricular activities, namely the project to strengthen the Pancasila student profile. This study aims to describe common misconceptions related to the project of strengthening the Pancasila student profile by teachers. The research method uses descriptive quantitative research, namely using questionnaires and interviews. The results of the study show that there is a misconception of teachers' understanding of PSPSP. These misconceptions are found in S2, S9, S1, S6, S10 and S5. The findings of teachers' misconceptions related to PSPSP encourage several important implications. Intensive socialization and training for teachers is needed, structured learning guides and modules, monitoring and evaluation are needed to ensure the suitability of practices with the goals and values of the Pancasila student profile.
