Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of code-switching and code-mixing of the Batak language and the factors influencing their use in the process of Indonesian language learning in Grade VIII at SMP Negeri 3 Pangururan. Language as a means of social communication demonstrates complex dynamics in bilingual communities such as those in Samosir Regency. In the classroom context, teachers and students frequently switch and mix Indonesian with Batak during instructional interactions. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through observation of classroom interactions. The findings indicate that code-switching and code-mixing of the Batak language commonly occur during Indonesian language instruction. These phenomena are influenced by speakers’ language habits, limited Indonesian vocabulary, and interlocutor-related factors. This study offers novelty in terms of research location, participants, and learning context, and is expected to contribute to language learning practices and sociolinguistic studies, particularly concerning code-switching and code-mixing.

Abstract

Kapalo Koto Songket Embroidery is a cultural heritage rich in aesthetic and local identity values. However, modernization and lack of regeneration threaten its continuity. This research aims to explore the role of this embroidery as both heritage and future potential. A qualitative method was used with in-depth interviews involving local artisans and cultural figures in Kapalo Koto. The findings reveal that songket embroidery holds not only high economic and artistic value but also serves as a symbol of identity and community pride. Nevertheless, the lack of interest among the younger generation and limited digital marketing are major challenges. The study concludes that preserving Kapalo Koto songket embroidery requires collaboration among cultural actors, the government, and technological support to develop it as a sustainable creative economic asset for the future.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Logic Model and Theory-Based Evaluation in evaluating educational programs at Vocational High Schools (SMK), as well as to identify the advantages, limitations, and effectiveness of both approaches. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) referring to PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were conducted through scientific databases with a publication range from 2019 to 2026. From the selection process, 15 articles that met the inclusion criteria were obtained and analyzed qualitatively using a narrative synthesis. The research results indicate that the Logic Model approach is effective in mapping program structures systematically through the relationships between inputs, processes, outputs, and outcomes, making it easier to understand program flow and result achievements. Meanwhile, Theory-Based Evaluation is superior in explaining the mechanisms of change and the cause-and-effect relationships underlying program success. Nevertheless, this approach has a higher level of complexity and requires more in-depth data. The conclusion of this research shows that there is no single approach that is entirely superior, so the integration of Logic Model and Theory-Based Evaluation becomes the most effective strategy in producing a comprehensive, systematic, and evidence-based program evaluation. This integrative approach is recommended to improve the quality of educational program evaluations in vocational high schools (SMK).
