Abstract

Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors have limitations in measuring high and extreme temperatures because in general FBG sensors are made of silica fiber, which at high temperatures can interfere with the mechanical performance of the materials. In this paper, we propose an S-FBG (Sapphire Fiber Bragg Grating) sensor which is resistant to extreme environmental influences and high temperatures. By developing S-FBG to measure high temperatures, it is found that S-FBG has high sensitivity, every 10C change is obtained and the Bragg wavelength shifts as far as 30.24 nm, this result is greatly influenced by the thermo-optic coefficient, and the coefficient of expansion-thermal. The design also evaluates the Gaussian apodization profile to improve sensor accuracy in monitoring temperature.

Abstract

Abstract : Understanding is the level of ability expected by someone in understanding the meaning of the concept. Understanding the concept is a very important part in the learning process. The purpose of this study is to find out that the application of the predict-observe explain (poe) learning model can be an alternative solution to improve students' understanding of physics concepts. This study uses a quasi-experimental research method with a "posttest only control group design" research design. The affordable population is all students of class X MIA MAN 3 Pekanbaru in the 2021/2022 academic year, totaling 144 students. The sample in this study amounted to 72 students consisting of class X MIA 2 as the control class which amounted to 36 students and X MIA 3 as the experimental class which amounted to 36 students. The instrument used is a test of understanding the concept of Newton's Law material. This test refers to 7 indicators of concept understanding according to Widodo. The test questions consist of 21 multiple choice questions and 4 essay questions. After the test, the data on the results of students' understanding of the concept will be presented with descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. This descriptive analysis is seen through the absorption of students. In this inferential analysis using three tests with the help of SPSS version 24, namely normality test, homogeneity test and hypothesis testing with non parametric Mann Whitney. The results showed that the experimental class students' conceptual understanding data by applying the POE learning model had a significant difference than the control class which only used conventional learning. Keywords: Concept Understanding, POE Learning Model, Experimental Method, Newton's Law

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate a hexagonal two-layer photonic crystal fiber based on surface plasmon resonance (HT-PCF-SPR) which is easy to fabricate as a sensor for detecting the refractive index of analytes. After performing numerical simulations using COMSOL multiphysics based on the finite element method (FEM), it was found that the HT-PCF-SPR could detect the analyte's refractive index in the range 1.34-1.37 RIU and in the wavelength range from 730 nm to 810 nm. The plasmonic material used in the design is gold with a thickness of 40 nm which is located outside the layer and in two opposite air holes in the core. The HT-PCF-SPR design has good performance in detecting analytes, it is found that the sensitivity in detecting analytes is 2,000 nm/RIU, meaning that every 1 RIU shift of analyte shifts the wavelength by 2000 nm. Meanwhile, the sensor resolution obtained from the design is 6.67×10-5 RIU, and it is found that the larger the air hole, the greater the confinement loss value.

Abstract

Dishwashing soap is one of the household items that must be in every home because of its use in cleaning up dirt on cooking utensils. Every household spends a lot of money to buy soap for washing dishes, meanwhile dishwashing soap can be made at home with ingredients that are easy to get and economical value. The lack of public knowledge about the ingredients and methods of making dish soap in Muda Setia Village causes people to spend more money to buy dish soap. Therefore, KUKERTA students at the University of Riau empower the community in Muda Setia Village, especially PKK women in making dish soap. The method used by Kukerta students is by delivering materials and direct demonstrations in front of PKK women. The location selection method is carried out in a purposive manner through considerations that are in accordance with the purpose of service. The purpose of this activity is to provide socialization, empowerment and training to PKK women, most of whom work as housewives and farm laborers in oil palm plantations. Through this empowerment, they succeeded in developing the abilities of women in the village of Muda Setia as well as providing opportunities to open a business by making dishwashing soap that has economic value.

Abstract

In this work, we carried out a numerical investigation of the PCF-SPR biosensor for the early detection of infected skin cancer cells and healthy cells. The study was conducted using the COMSOL Multiphysics-based FEM method. The dielectric material used in this PCF design is fused silica, while the plasmonic material is gold. The study was conducted to test the effect of the thickness of the plasmonic layer and the size of the air hole diameter on the PCF-SPR. It was found that the larger the diameter of the air hole in the proposed sensor gives a smaller confinement loss value, while the thicker the plasmonic material used also gives a small confinement loss value. The proposed PCF-SPR has a wavelength sensitivity in detecting skin cancer-infected cells of 7000 nm/RIU. These results indicate that the proposed sensor has a good performance in detecting cells infected with skin cancer.

Abstract

We have observed a numerical simulation of the PCF-SPR sensor detecting alcohol concentration at low temperatures. The investigation was carried out using the finite element method on the PCF-SPR geometric structure. We use a simple geometry structure of the sensor by using fused silica and gold as the sensor’s core and plasmonic material. Observations were made in the alcohol concentration range of 15%, 40%, 60%, and 70%. In the literature, we find the refractive index of each alcohol concentration and input its value into the proposed sensor. The proposed sensor shows that the sensor has a sensitivity in detecting alcohol concentrations at low temperatures of 91 nm/%. In the end, we obtained the optimal sensor components and the sensor can detect the alcohol concentration at low temperatures

Abstract

Abstract : Students science process skills are aspects that must be trained through hands-on practicals. In fact, the lack of adequate practicum facilities in the physics laboratory causes students to rarely do practicums so that students' scientific process skills do not develop. Along with the rapid development of technology, there has been an innovation in the form of a virtual laboratory as an alternative solution for schools that lack practical tools and materials. This study aims to determine the differences in students' science process skills between classes that apply virtual laboratory-based learning assisted by live worksheets and classes that apply conventional learning. The type of research used is Quasi-Experiment with Post-test Only design, Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The data collection instrument was in the form of post-test questions (scientific process skills test). Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The results of the descriptive analysis showed that the students' science process skills in the experimental class were higher than the control class. This was shown in the experimental class, the percentage of students' average KPS scores reached 78.76% and the control class 66.59%. From the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that students' science process skills between classes with virtual laboratory-based learning assisted by live worksheets are better than classes with conventional learning on optical instrument material in class XI SMAN 16 Pekanbaru. Keywords: Optical Instrument, Science Process Skills, Virtual Laboratory, Liveworksheets
