Abstract

Vitamin C has chromophore group that can be analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, however if the complex matrix to be analyzed like multivitamins, a selective separation method is required to eliminate matrix interferences. One of the selective separation methods is Molecular Imprinted Polymer (MIP) which which hasn’t been widely used in multivitamin samples. The purpose of this study was to obtain selective MIP for separation of vitamin C in multivitamins.. Research methods included interaction observation of vitamin C with functional monomers using UV spectrophotometry, MIP was synthesized using bulk method for 24 hours at 60 °C. MIP was characterized using spectrophotometry, infrared and scanning electron microscopy MIP selectivity were determined by determination of imprinting factor and its recovery with the liquid-liquid extraction method (LLE) and SPE C18 for separation of vitamin C in multivitamin samples on the market using a validated method. Hypsochromic shift showed interaction between vitamin C and functional monomers, which hydrogen bonds were taking role in MIP synthesis. Imprinting factor more than 1 and recovery value close to 100% indicated MIP selectivity to vitamin C. MIP-1 had the highest selectivity compared to the ECC and SPE C18 methods for separation of vitamin C in multivitamin samples with recovery of 98.17 ± 2.31%, 69.42 ± 3.01%, and 93.26±4.24% respectively. Synthesized MIP-1 was selective for the separation of vitamin C in multivitamins.

Abstract

An analytical method based on combination UV-Vis spectroscopy and chemometric was developed for detecting commonly listed adulterants such as paracetamol and piroxicam simultaneously in traditional medicines. No complex sample preparation and separation are required except grinding, dissolving, and filtering. The spectral interferences were resolved by multivariate techniques. Wavelengths selection and number of components optimization were performed by a combination of Genetic Algorithm and Partial Least Square (GA-PLS) followed by backward elimination through Jack-Knife Partial Least Square Regression (JK-PLSR). The capability PLSR model for quantitative analysis was assessed from the coefficient of determination (R2) and root mean square of error prediction/cross-validation (RMSEP/RMSECV) dan predicted residual sum of square (PRESS). Classification performance of PLS Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA) was evaluated from the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROCC). For ensuring the sensitivity of the method, the detection limits from the two pseudo-univariate lines were estimated. The R2, RMSEP, RMSECV, AUROCC, and detection limit obtained from the selected models of paracetamol and piroxicam were 0.999, 0.25 mg/L, 0.15 mg/L, 100%, and 0.4 mg/L respectively. Therefore, the proposed method is suitable for the rapid screening of adulterated herbal medicine.

Pharmacy practice plays a crucial role in the modern healthcare system, providing access to safe and effective medicines for the public. However, in carrying out their profession, pharmacists are often faced with complex moral dilemmas. The modern era, with technological advances and commercial pressures, further complicates ethical decision-making. This article aims to examine ethical responsibilities in pharmacy practice and how pharmacists deal with conflicts of interest between economic gain and patient interests. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study identifies the main challenges faced by pharmacists in maintaining professional integrity while meeting regulatory demands and social expectations. The results suggest that pharmacists must adopt a balanced, value-based approach, where priority is given to patient welfare without neglecting the business aspects that are an integral part of healthcare. The discussion also explains the importance of developing ethical guidelines that are adaptive and relevant to the challenges of the digital era. The conclusion of this study is that a collaborative approach between government, professional organizations, and educational institutions can help create a stronger framework to support pharmacists in dealing with moral dilemmas in the workplace.

Abstract

Postpartum contraceptive services plays an important role in reducing the rate of unplanned pregnancies and improving maternal and child health. However, its coverage in Indonesia is still low. This study aims to evaluate the quality of postpartum contraception services through three aspects: technical, functional, and accessibility. The study design is quantitative descriptive-analytical, with respondents being reproductive-age women who have given birth and accessed contraception services in 2024. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey and analyzed using chi-square tests and logistic regression. The results indicate that the quality of services is a dominant factor in the use of modern contraceptives, particularly among millennial women (OR = 18.6). Technical aspects such as method availability and staff competence, as well as functional aspects such as attitude, clarity of information, and privacy significantly influence patient decisions. Although accessibility was not statistically significant, economic factors and distance remain practical barriers. This study recommends improving service quality, training healthcare workers, and developing community-based service models to expand access to quality contraception in Indonesia.

Abstract

Indonesia, with its rich biodiversity, has numerous plant species with significant therapeutic potential. Secondary metabolites in plants play a vital role in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and the food industry. However, traditional methods for isolating these compounds are often non-selective, time-consuming, and environmentally unfriendly. Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) is an emerging method for isolating secondary metabolites due to its selectivity and efficiency. MIP has been successfully applied in the identification and separation of plant-derived compounds, including secondary metabolites, chemical residues, and pesticides. This study explores the use of MIP for isolating secondary metabolites in plants and aims to contribute to developing strategies for obtaining targeted metabolites. The findings also highlight future research opportunities for MIP in industrial applications to support the independence of medicinal raw materials in Indonesia.

Abstract

The misuse of antibiotics remains a public health concern and contributes to the risk of antimicrobial resistance. To raise public awareness and knowledge about appropriate antibiotic use, an educational activity was conducted during the Car Free Day event in the Sudirman area of Jakarta. The education was delivered through direct counseling using leaflet media to participants aged 15 years and above. A total of 38 individuals took part in the activity and completed questionnaires before and after the session. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 51.7 to 71.4. Statistical analysis using a paired t-test indicated a significant difference (p < 0.05), suggesting that the education had a positive impact on participants’ understanding. Furthermore, it was found that some members of the public still consume antibiotics without a doctor’s prescription. This activity demonstrates that public-space educational approaches can serve as a strategic effort to improve community understanding of rational antibiotic use.
