Abstract

This contribution is about how political images created in Indonesia in the immediate aftermath of decolonization acquired a divisive rather than a unifying character. The answer is sought in the tendency towards guidance that came to the fore during the Guided Democracy and Guided Economy. The analysis starts with matters of periodization arguing that the Guided Democracy and Guided Ecoomy in fact began in early 1957. Then, the economic content of the newly created post-colonial images is surveyed. Finally, the article takes a closer look at the precise role played in this process by Soekarno and Hatta. The article concludes by pointing out the great diversity of perceptions of the Guided Economy and also the relatively weak economic substance in these perceptions.

Abstract

This article is a conceptual article created with the aim of analyzing the problems faced by the Indonesian government concerning refugees and identifying challenges in implementing the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol. The results of the discussion indicate that addressing the refugee issue in Indonesia is highly complex. Although ratifying the 1951 Refugee Convention and its Protocol can substantially protect the human rights of refugees, its implementation in Indonesia faces various challenges caused by several factors, such as the high population density in Indonesia and the absence of laws governing local integrity, leading to difficulties in granting equal rights between refugees and Indonesian natives. Refugees must meet specific requirements according to the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 12 of 2016 on citizenship to have the same rights as Indonesian citizens. Additionally, from an economic perspective, refugee migration impacts Indonesia's financial budget. The aspects of security and social culture are essential considerations, as an increasing number of refugees may cause conflicts with the indigenous population and threaten Indonesia's cultural identity. Although the 1951 Refugee Convention provides standard rights for refugees, the Indonesian government finds it challenging to ratify it due to various obstacles, such as religious differences, marriage laws, labor absorption, and budget limitations. Therefore, the Indonesian government needs to carefully consider before ratifying the 1951 Refugee Convention. Thus, in addressing this complex situation, choosing to act as a transit country and providing protection within its capacity is a wise step in facing this refugee issue.

Abstract

Highlights Glutamine, an amino acid, can help mitigate the side effects of cisplatin by boosting glutathione (GSH) levels, an antioxidant that counteracts oxidative stress. By reducing AIF protein expression and apoptosis, glutamine may protect kidney cells from cisplatin toxicity, potentially improving the safety of chemotherapy. Background: Cisplatin, a widely used chemotherapy that is effective for many forms of cancer, has nephrotoxic qualities that can reduce renal function. Due to its side effects, the usage of cisplatin is limited by its dose. Glutamine, an amino acid, possesses properties that can counteract the nephrotoxicity of cisplatin. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of intravenous glutamine administration on the decrease of AIF expression and apoptosis in intraglomerular mesangial cells of cisplatin-exposed rats. Material and Method: Samples (n) consisting of 30 rats were divided into 3 groups, with each group containing 10 rats. Group P0 received no treatment, group P1 received an injection of cisplatin on the 7th day, and group P2 received glutamine on the 1st–7th day and an injection of cisplatin on the 7th day. After 72 h, the tissue samples were immunohistochemically processed and then observed under a light microscope with 400x magnification. AIF expression and apoptosis were measured in the Allred/H score. Result: AIF expression results were: P0 = 4,35(2,2-5,4); P1 = 5,9(4,8-6,3); P2 = 5,25(2,4-5,8). The AIF expression of P2 was found to be significantly lower (p = 0.008) than P1. Apoptosis results were: P0 = 5,2(4,7-5,5); P1 = 6,4(6,1-7,1); P2 = 5,7(4,8-5,9). The apoptosis level of P2 was found to be significantly lower (p = <0.0001) than P1. Strong correlations between the decrease in AIF expression and the apoptosis level were found (p = <0.0001). Conclusion: Glutamine contributes to the decreased AIF expression and apoptosis in intraglomerular mesangial cells of cisplatin-exposed rats.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the gig economy in Indonesia has transformed the nature of digital work, offering flexibility yet creating challenges related to job security and performance. This study aims to analyze the influence of task clarity, technology access, social support, and motivation on the performance of gig workers in Indonesia. A quantitative descriptive approach was used by distributing online questionnaires to 300 digital platform workers across the Greater Jakarta area. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression after meeting the requirements of validity, reliability, and classical assumption tests. The results show that social support and motivation have a significant positive effect on performance, while task clarity and technology access show a positive but insignificant relationship. The findings indicate that psychosocial factors contribute more strongly to gig workers’ performance than structural or technical aspects. These results imply that maintaining social connections and intrinsic motivation is crucial for sustaining productivity in flexible digital work environments. This study is limited to respondents in urban areas and does not include qualitative insights from workers’ lived experiences. Future research is suggested to expand the sample across regions and integrate qualitative analysis to better understand the dynamics of digital labor in Indonesia.
