Abstract

Arabic teaching faces challenges in improving the quality of education, where students struggle to understand and pronounce vocabulary due to the diversity of vocabulary, which makes the language seem complicated. As a solution to this challenge, augmented reality (AR) technology can be used to make the learning process more interactive and engaging. The purpose of this study is to find out students' understanding of Arabic vocabulary, assess their pronunciation, and learn about the use of augmented reality technology in Arabic language teaching. The method used is a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design, with a quantitative approach. Arabic vocabulary comprehension before using augmented reality in the experimental class of class 10B students showed an average score of 66 which indicates a sufficient level, while in the control class class 10A students showed an average score of 63 which also indicates an adequate level. After the use of augmented reality, Arabic vocabulary comprehension in the experimental class of class 10B students showed an average score of 83 indicating an excellent level, while in the control class the students of class 10A showed an average score of 74 indicating a good level. The pronunciation of Arabic vocabulary before using augmented reality in the experimental class of class 10B students showed an average score of 75 indicating a good level, while in the control class of class 10A students showed an average score of 69 indicating an adequate level. After the use of augmented reality, the pronunciation of Arabic vocabulary in the experimental class of class 10B students showed an average score of 89 indicating an excellent level, while in the control class of class 10A students showed an average score of 77 indicating a good level.

Abstract

This article explores the complex relationship between language and dialect from theoretical and sociolinguistic perspectives, focusing on three main dimensions: linguistic identity, socio-geographical variation, and the role of dialects in language change. The study argues that dialects are not merely informal variants of standardized language, but authentic expressions of social and cultural identity, as well as active agents in linguistic dynamics. Through a literature-based analysis, this paper highlights how dialects serve as markers of group solidarity, legitimate forms of linguistic variation, and sources of innovation in the evolution of language. However, dialects are often marginalized due to the dominance of standardized language, institutionalized through formal education and national language policies. The critical analysis in this article underscores the importance of recognizing dialects within educational systems and public policy as part of preserving linguistic diversity. The study recommends a more inclusive approach to language planning and multilingual education as essential strategies toward linguistic justice and the empowerment of local identities.

Abstract

This study explores the utilization of poetry in Ibn Katsir's tafsir riwayah and its instructional methods at Miftahul Huda Manonjaya Islamic boarding school in Tasikmalaya. Employing a qualitative approach, precisely the analytical descriptive research method, the research delves into integrating poetry in Ibn Katsir's exegesis and its pedagogical implementation in the mentioned Islamic boarding school. The findings reveal that Ibn Katsir employed poetry to interpret one hundred and eleven verses, highlighting the substantial role of poetic expression in his approach to tafsir riwayah. The study categorizes Tafsir learning at the pesantren into formal and non-formal learning. Seven formal learning methods are identified: lecture, question and answer sessions, demonstration, drill, problem-solving activities, recitation, and discussions. Simultaneously, non-formal learning comprises five methods: wetonan (traditional Javanese calendar-based activities), sorogan (group recitation), muhawarah (dialogue), mudzakarah (group discussion), and majlis ta'lim (religious study sessions). In conclusion, this study contributes to understanding poetry's role in Ibn Katsir's tafsir riwayah. It elucidates the diverse instructional methods applied in Tafsir learning at Miftahul Huda Manonjaya Islamic boarding school. Integrating formal and non-formal methods underscores the comprehensive educational approaches to impart Islamic knowledge in the pesantren environment. Recommendations for future research include exploring the impact of specific poetic elements on students' learning outcomes and evaluating the effectiveness of integrating technology into Tafsir teaching at Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Abstract

This study is intended to examine the poems of Mahmoud Darwish through a stylistic approach in order to reveal the relationship between language, culture, and identity within the context of the Palestinian nation’s non-violent struggle. Mahmoud Darwish, as the national poet of Palestine, uses language not merely as an aesthetic medium but also as a symbol of cultural resistance and as an expression of the people’s collective identity. This research is a qualitative study employing library research methods, analyzing stylistic elements and the complexity of linguistic symbols that represent culture in poems integrating aesthetics and politics. It contributes to understanding the use of language style as a medium of cultural resistance and as a reflection of Palestinian identity, expanding the comprehension of the interconnection among language, culture, and struggle within the framework of literature. The findings show that Mahmoud Darwish’s poems are rich in metaphorical, symbolic, and repetitive language styles that reinforce messages of alienation, longing for the homeland, and broader depictions of resistance against colonization. The analysis indicates that the use of language in Darwish’s poetry functions strategically as a tool of non-violent resistance that fosters collective awareness and strengthens Palestinian national identity amid social and political pressures. Thus, Mahmoud Darwish’s poetry possesses not only literary aesthetic value but also serves as an effective instrument of cultural resistance.

Abstract

The phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing is a linguistic dynamic that is prevalent in bilingual environments, including Islamic boarding schools. This research focuses on the practice of code transfer and Arabic-Indonesian code mixing used by students of the MIMLAM Cileunyi Islamic Boarding School in formal and informal interactions. The purpose of this study is to describe the types and forms of code switching and code mixing that appear, as well as analyze the factors behind it. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed with the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results of the study show that there are three main forms of code mixing, namely insertion, substitution, and congruent lexicalization, as well as several forms of intra-sentential code switching. This phenomenon is not only influenced by the limitations of language competence, but also functions as a communicative strategy and marker of social identity in the pesantren environment. The conclusion of the study emphasizes that code switching and code mixing can make a positive contribution to contextual Arabic learning and in accordance with the communication needs of students.

Abstract

The word “jancuk” is a form of speech often used in daily conversation, especially in the Arekan dialect spoken in some regions of East Java, such as Surabaya, Malang, and Lumajang. However, in the development of language, this speech is also adapted by non-Javanese speakers with various communication functions, such as in West Java, to be the origin of the Sundanese people, as well as outside the island of Java. This study aims to analyze “jancuk” as an expressive speech act, particularly in the sociolinguistic context of non-Javanese speaking communities. Using a sociopragmatic qualitative approach, this study examines the use of “jancuk” speech in social interactions and how it functions as an expression of emotions, solidarity, and group identity by identifying the instances of “jancuk” use. The results of the study showed that the expression “jancuk” experienced a shift in meaning when used by non-Javanese speakers, with a more flexible application in various communication situations.

Abstract

The Arabic language plays a strategic role in shaping individual religious identity and the social fabric of Muslim communities, particularly within the context of contemporary da'wah practices. This study aims to analyze how Arabic functions both as a linguistic and ideological tool in negotiating personal identity and social relations within da'wah spaces, whether through digital or traditional media. Employing a critical sociolinguistic approach and a descriptive qualitative method, this research explores practices such as code-switching, linguistic register variation, and the adaptation of Arabic to various da'wah contexts, including traditional environments such as Salafi religious institutes and digital da'wah platforms. The findings reveal that Arabic not only serves as a symbol of Islamic religiosity but also performs a semantic function in defining religious authority, social hierarchy, and symbolic capital in contemporary da'wah discourse. In urban settings, Arabic emerges as a symbol of the globalization of Islam and ideological affiliation, whereas in rural contexts, it serves as a means of preserving traditional religious knowledge. The study concludes that context-based Arabic language instruction and the adoption of flexible linguistic strategies are essential to support effective and inclusive da'wah communication in contemporary Muslim societies.
