Abstract

Abstract. The rapid growth of digital technology has considerably impacted the education industry, prompting the transformation of traditional teaching methods to suit the demands of the twenty-first century. This study investigates Moodle-based learning for English students, motivated by the desire to improve engagement, accessibility, and learning results through novel educational technology. The premise for this study stems from Moodle's potential to alter the learning experience by delivering dynamic, adaptable, and student-centered educational settings. This study aims to assess Moodle's usefulness in enhancing English language competency, identify student problems, and provide recommendations for maximizing its use. The research methodology is descriptive quantitative research using a questionnaire. There are 306 respondents to this research. The findings show that Moodle-based learning has been highly welcomed by students, improving their knowledge of English ideas, delivering high-quality learning materials, and allowing for convenient access and interaction with instructors and peers. Students reported better learning outcomes, increased independence, and more effective time management. However, issues such as digital literacy and access to technology were discovered.Keyword: Moodle-based learning, implementation, online learning

Abstract

This research aimed to discover the correlation between the students’ likelihood of listening to English songs habit and their vocabulary mastery. This research engaged the correlational method by using a quantitative method. There are two variables in this research. Listening to English songs is variable X and The Students’ Vocabulary Mastery is variable Y. The students’ likelihood of listening to English songs was attained by distributing a questionnaire while the students’ vocabulary mastery was acquired from a test. The population consists of 228 students who registered active and are classified into four academic years, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. The samples were selected using a random sampling technique. Based on the calculation, it was found that the mean score of the students’ likelihood of listening to English songs is 60.05. Meanwhile, the mean score of the students’ vocabulary mastery test is 37.7. The research data were calculated through SPSS 26. The correlation result of both variables is 0.24, which is interpreted as the strength of the correlation between the two variables gained constantly rated as significant at the weak level.

Abstract

Pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi Figma untuk pembuatan modul digital interaktif di SMK Telkom Makassar bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam merancang media pembelajaran berbasis teknologi. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan secara tatap muka dengan pendekatan partisipatif, mencakup empat tahapan utama: pengenalan aplikasi Figma, demonstrasi penggunaan, praktik dan diskusi, serta evaluasi melalui kuesioner daring. Sebanyak 26 guru dari berbagai bidang keahlian mengikuti pelatihan ini. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas peserta mengalami peningkatan pemahaman terhadap fitur-fitur Figma, merasa mampu mengimplementasikannya dalam penyusunan modul ajar, serta berkomitmen menerapkannya dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Fitur seperti FigJam dan Prototype menjadi fitur favorit karena mendukung kolaborasi dan interaktivitas. Berdasarkan data evaluasi dan umpan balik peserta, pelatihan ini terbukti efektif karena berhasil mencapai tujuan meningkatkan keterampilan desain digital guru yang relevan dengan perkembangan teknologi pendidikan serta dapat diaplikasikan secara nyata dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar.

Abstract

This research examines the degree of intensity in the delivery of corrective feedback (CF) by EFL lecturers within online English language instruction, with particular attention to synchronous and asynchronous communication modes. Adopting a descriptive qualitative framework, the study gathered data through classroom observations and in-depth interviews with eight lecturers teaching various English courses at Universitas Negeri Makassar. The analysis centered on three principal dimensions of feedback intensity: attention, duration, and frequency. The results indicated that CF provided via synchronous platforms—such as video conferencing or real-time chat—was generally more immediate, intensive, and frequent. This mode enabled lecturers to address student errors dynamically and offer direct feedback that fostered metacognitive engagement and timely revisions. Conversely, CF delivered asynchronously through tools such as email, discussion forums, and learning management systems was found to be less intensive, broader in scope, and delayed, often influenced by limited student engagement and the self-directed nature of asynchronous interaction. Despite these differences, asynchronous feedback facilitated more deliberate and structured responses. The study underscores that CF intensity is influenced by technological capabilities, the nature of the course content, and the frequency of lecturer-student interaction. It concludes that a strategic integration of both synchronous and asynchronous feedback modalities can significantly improve the effectiveness of online English language instruction.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance students' capacity in information management and news ethics through direct exploration of mass media institutions. The methods used include journalism training, mini research projects, and direct visits to various media outlets such as TVRI, Kompas TV, iNews, Tribun Timur, Herald.id, Derap Hukum, Media Sulsel, Ujung Jari, Koran Makassar, and Beritakota. Students were divided into 12 groups and conducted simple research related to current media issues. The results of this activity indicate a significant improvement in students' analytical skills, understanding of journalistic ethics, and ability to process information in the digital era. Moreover, direct interaction with professional journalists deepened their understanding of the challenges faced in the media industry. The project also successfully produced articles and reports that were published in local media and the department's official website. This activity demonstrates that field-based practical experience is essential in equipping students with relevant and adaptive skills to face the rapidly evolving dynamics of information in society.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of using the “Rehearse with Coach” feature in Microsoft PowerPoint on the presentation skills of Business English Communication students. This research used a qualitative case study method with thematic analysis, involving 10 Business English Communication students from Makassar State University. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observations. The results showed that this feature significantly improved students' presentation skills. Students also rated the real-time feedback provided by the feature as very practical and helpful for immediate improvement, although there were some suggestions to improve the accuracy of error detection and responsiveness to external distractions. This research makes an important contribution to the understanding of how digital tools such as “Rehearse with Coach” can improve presentation skills.

Abstract

Education in Madrasah faces the challenge of developing learning methods that are in line with the needs of the 21st century, especially with the rapid development of technology. Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) enable deeper understanding and relevant applications to improve the quality of teaching. The purpose of this service activity is to introduce the use of AI such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot to create more efficient lesson plans, as well as interactive applications such as Canva and Heyzine to create engaging teaching materials. The methods used are workshop-based training and direct simulations. The results of the training showed a significant ability of teachers to use technology in creating lesson plans with a Deep Learning approach and utilizing AI in preparing lesson plans as well as using Canva and Heyzine technology in interactive teaching materials.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam mengenali dan memanfaatkan peluang bisnis sebagai langkah awal membangun usaha mandiri. Mahasiswa dituntut memiliki keterampilan kewirausahaan yang tidak hanya berfokus pada pencarian kerja, tetapi juga pada penciptaan lapangan kerja baru. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dalam bentuk webinar interaktif yang menggabungkan pendekatan teori dan praktik melalui sesi ceramah, studi kasus, dan simulasi perencanaan bisnis. Materi meliputi analisis SWOT, penyusunan Business Model Canvas (BMC), serta pemahaman tren pasar berbasis kebutuhan lokal mahasiswa. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa sebanyak 85% peserta mengalami peningkatan pemahaman dalam mengidentifikasi peluang usaha yang relevan dengan minat dan keterampilan mereka. Selain itu, 60% mahasiswa mampu menyusun rencana bisnis awal secara terstruktur yang mencakup strategi pemasaran, target pasar, dan proyeksi kebutuhan modal. Diskusi kelompok dan pendampingan intensif juga berkontribusi dalam membangun rasa percaya diri mahasiswa untuk mengembangkan dan mempresentasikan ide bisnis mereka. Kegiatan ini juga berhasil menciptakan ruang belajar yang inklusif, dengan partisipasi aktif dari mahasiswa lintas gender dan latar belakang sosial ekonomi. Keterbatasan waktu dan pengalaman menjadi tantangan utama, namun dapat diatasi melalui sesi lanjutan berupa mentoring teknis. Kegiatan ini terbukti efektif dalam membekali mahasiswa dengan keterampilan dasar kewirausahaan digital, serta mendorong semangat wirausaha sebagai alternatif karier di era persaingan global. Kegiatan ini relevan dengan pencapaian Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs) poin 8, yaitu mendukung pertumbuhan ekonomi dan penciptaan pekerjaan layak.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the implementation of interpersonal communication can affect the adaptation process of students outside Makassar in the Business English Communication study program and factors that influence the ability of students outside Makassar to adapt. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research design with the data obtained is in the form of explanations and descriptions. Data collection techniques using interviews and the instrument is interview guide. The results of this study indicate that the role of interpersonal communication is very influential on the adaptation process of students from outside Makassar in Business English Communication study program and their adaptability is influenced by their social nature, acceptance of differences, close relationships, empathy and support from peers and lecturers, a positive attitude, and equal opportunities for participation in campus activities.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the communication styles used by BEC students on social media and the ways the communication styles used by BEC students on social media platforms affect their communication in terms of language use. This study used a qualitative descriptive research design, involving BEC students with data collection techniques using questionnaires, interviews, and content analysis observations. The results show that there are two communication styles most widely used by BEC students on social media, namely assertive and passive communication styles. This study also identified the language functions involved in each communication style, such as expressing opinions politely, listening and observing, and expressing discomfort or disagreement. BEC students need to consider the communication style that suits the situation and purpose of their communication on social media, and use language appropriately and effectively.
