Abstract

Dendam Tak Sudah is a lake located in the Bengkulu Province. It is situated in the Dusun Besar Village, Singaran Pati District, Bengkulu City, Bengkulu Province. The total area of Danau Dendam Tak Sudah is 559 hectares, with a surface area of 68 hectares. Since the issuance of Decree No. 79/MENLHK/SETJEN/PLA.2/1/2019 dated January 21, 2019, regarding the strengthening of the main function within the forest function of part of the DDB Nature Reserve area, it has been designated as a Nature Tourism Park in Bengkulu City, Bengkulu Province, covering an area of approximately 88 hectares. The status of the Danau Dendam Tak Sudah area, which was previously a Nature Reserve, has now changed to a Nature Tourism Park. The purpose of this study is to analyze and understand the impact of the downgrade of the status of part of the Danau Dendam Tak Sudah area, formerly a Nature Reserve, to a Nature Tourism Park on the water condition in Danau Dendam Tak Sudah and its relation to the reduction in water discharge for rice fields. The objective of this research is to provide solutions to the government's decision-making process, emphasizing the consideration of environmental aspects and the interests of farmers, in addition to promoting tourism in Bengkulu City.

Abstract

The global demand for energy is driving increased exploration, production and processing of crude oil, increasing the risk of oil spills during these processes and contaminating marine habitats and biota. As hazardous and toxic substances, oil spills require effective and comprehensive management. Bioremediation uses the metabolism of microbes to break down hydrocarbons and convert contaminants into harmless compounds. One species of hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria suitable for bioremediation is Bacillus subtilis. Its adaptability to changes in temperature, salinity, and oxygen levels, as well as its resistance to environmental stress, make it an ideal choice for bioremediation as a sustainable and efficient solution to oil pollution in marine ecosystems. This study aims to explore the potential use of Bacillus subtilis as an alternative for managing crude oil spills, particularly in Indonesian waters.

Abstract

The development of the Indonesian palm oil industry has direct implications for the increasingly widespread cultivation of oil palm, both managed by small-scale companies and those managed by large-scale companies. This condition is directly proportional to the increase in the amount of solid waste and liquid waste produced from industrial activities. Solid waste and liquid waste can pollute the environment and endanger public health if not managed properly. This literature review aims to examine the role of partnerships between communities and the palm oil industry in managing palm oil waste and its implications for environmental health. Partnerships involve active community participation in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating waste management programs. The results of the literature review show that the partnership has had a positive impact, such as improving water and air quality and reducing the prevalence of environmentally related diseases. Apart from that, community empowerment programs in processing waste into economically valuable products also provide economic benefits. However, there are inhibiting factors such as low public awareness, limited human resources, and lack of other supporting facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

One of the government's efforts to monitor and protect the environment is through the Company Performance Rating Assessment Program in Environmental Management (PROPER), which is the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's flagship program to encourage industry compliance with environmental regulations. The implementation of PROPER has been regulated in the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number 1 of 2021 concerning the Company Performance Rating Assessment Program in Environmental Management. This research was conducted in Bengkulu City using secondary data through literature study media, journals, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's Decree regarding Proper for 2016-2020, regulations and legislation regarding environmental protection and management, the LHK regulation regarding PROPER. The results of the research conducted show that the implementation of Proper in Bengkulu Province has not shown maximum results during the last 5 (five) year period. Only 1 (one) company received the green title and the rest still received the blue, red and even black titles. The port, palm oil, rubber, coal mining and mineral subsector industries contributed the most to the red title, respectively.

Abstract

Microplastics can cause physical, chemical, and biological damage to marine organisms. Small microplastic particles can become trapped in the tissues of organisms or be ingested by marine biota, causing physical injuries and even death. The findings of this study are expected to provide information to companies, governments, and the public regarding the impact of microplastics on coastal ecosystems, as well as recommendations for solutions that can be implemented to minimize the pollution impact. The study results indicate that microplastics can also absorb hazardous chemicals and pollutants, which can enter the bodies of marine organisms and cause toxicity. The accumulation of microplastics in the bodies of organisms can impact higher-level organisms in the food chain, including humans. In this regard, recommendations for strategies and public awareness are necessary to safeguard the environment and ensure a healthy life. The public should play an active role in controlling environmental impacts, reducing the use of single-use plastics, and implementing proper waste management systems. Additionally, governments need to create effective national policies for managing plastic waste, implementing the 4R hierarchy, and educating the public to increase awareness of the negative impacts of microplastics on coastal ecosystems. Lastly, continuous research and monitoring of microplastics in coastal ecosystems are necessary to develop more effective control strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to determine changes in land cover on Community Forest Utilization Business Permits (IUPHKm) before and after the IUPHKm was issued and to determine the socio-economic characteristics of Community Forest management participants in the Bukit Daun Protected Forest at this time. Most of the community forest participants in Kepahiang Regency are still classified as less prosperous. The socio-economic conditions of community forest management participants in the Bukit Daun Protected Forest, Kepahiang Regency, show that the age of community forest permit managers in the Bukit Daun Protected Forest is in the productive age category with relatively low education. It is necessary to carry out intensive outreach activities by the Environment and Forestry Service of Bengkulu Province, UPTD KPHL Bukit Daun, regarding the primary substance and rules of the Community Forest program and implement them in the field so that the public can clearly understand the Community Forest Program.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the appropriate thickness of cassava skin and durian skin in reducing the levels of Fe and Mn contained in dug well water. The study was designed using a single factor complete randomized design, namely the thickness of the waste cassava skin and durian skin which included 0 cm (control), 15 cm, 30 cm, and 60 cm. Each treatment was repeated 3 times to obtain 12 experimental units. Water samples were taken by a dug well from one of the residents' houses in RT 08, Padang Serai Village, Bengkulu City. Furthermore, the water samples were taken to the Bengkulu Ministry of Health Poltekkes Environmental Health Workshop. Observational data will be analyzed statistically using ANOVA level of 5%. Then if the data is significantly different, it will be tested further with the Least Significant Difference (LSD) Test. The results showed that the application of cassava peels and durian peels reduced Fe and Mn levels compared to controls. Application of cassava skin waste and durian skin with a thickness of 30 cm in water treatment of dug wells because they are able to reduce Fe and Mn levels below the threshold and is more economical.
