Abstract

Indonesia has been battling Covid-19 by modifying the regional quarantine (lockdown) policy into large-scale social restrictions (LSSR) that are local according to the severity of the region. The government is trying to regulate the New Normal policy to avoid a prolonged economic impact that can cause a crisis. The objectives of this Community Service (CS) activity are: 1) To encourage people to stay productive in the new standard era by doing activities around the house. 2) Inviting the community to organize environmental space and use of the yard. Most people in the Villa Pabittei housing estate, Bengkulu City, Bengkulu Province are civil servants, temporary or non-permanent employees, so they carry out their activities at home because the government has closed offices and schools. To anticipate the boredom of the people who laid off, the methods of this CS activity are 1) Counseling using learning by doing techniques and providing motivation for the community to use vacant land with FMP (family medicinal plants), 2) Simulation of structuring space into an environmental park

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian menggunakan metode CBPR (Community-Based Participatory Research).

Abstract

The community service activity is motivated by the enormous potential for eel fisheries business in Indonesia, as seen by the market potential (especially the international market) and the opportunities to increase the production of this fish. The fact that only a few people know and understand the nutritional content and how to grow out and process eels encouraged the community service team to carry out eel fisheries learning activities at PT. Laju Banyu Semesta. Meanwhile, most of the students of the IPB University, especially students of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, were not yet aware of the existence of the company and eel aquaculture, strengthening the community service team to hold this activity.

Abstract

According to data from BPS (2023), the capture fisheries production in Bengkulu City reached 41,919 tons in 2022. Despite its significant potential, fishermen’s income levels are highly dependent on unpredictable, uneven, and difficult-to-forecast catch results, often leading to their classification as "the poorest of the poor." This study aims to examine the income and welfare of small-scale fishing households in Bengkulu City, a region with substantial capture fisheries potential. Although the city recorded a production volume of 41,919 tons in 2022, many fishermen in this area continue to face challenges related to low welfare levels. Using welfare indicators from the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), this study analyzes the income and welfare levels of fishing households and explores the relationship between them. Primary data were collected through direct interviews and questionnaires, with small-scale fishermen selected using accidental sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-square test to determine the correlation between income and welfare. The findings indicate that the average monthly income of small-scale fishing households is IDR 2,130,553. The welfare levels of these households are categorized into three groups: Sejahtera II (26%), Sejahtera III (49%), and Sejahtera III Plus (25%). The Chi-square test results show a significance value of 0.010, indicating a significant relationship between income and fishermen’s household welfare. These findings suggest that income is the primary factor influencing the welfare of small-scale fishermen. Increasing income levels can serve as a strategic approach to improving the quality of life for fishermen and their families

Abstract

Bengkulu City has abundant marine resources, leading in marine capture fisheries volume and value among districts. However, its fishermen remain impoverished due to overfishing, unpredictable weather, and illegal fishing by large vessels, which reduce small-scale fishermen's catches and welfare. This study aims to analyze the income exchange rate of small-scale fishermen's ladders in Bengkulu City and the factors that affect it. Respondents are 100 small-scale fishermen spread across Bengkulu City selected by accidental sampling. Data analyzed using quantitative methods and using SPSS. The results showed that the Income structure of small-scale fisherman households in Bengkulu City consists of income on a fishery by percentage as 80.30% and non fishery income amounting to 19.70% of total income, which is IDR 951,675/week. The consumption expenditure pattern of small-scale fishing households in Bengkulu City consists of expenditure for food by percentage as 51.41% while expenditure for non-food as much as 48.59% of total expenditure, which is IDR 962,230/week. The fishermen's household income exchange rate in Bengkulu is 0.98 < 1, indicating that they cannot fully meet their basic needs and remain relatively poor. The variables of age, fishing hours, catch variations, fishing experience and boat size had a significant effect on the fishermen's household income exchange rate in Bengkulu City. In contrast, the fisherman fisherman education variable did not have a considerable effect on the fishermen's household income exchange rate in Bengkulu City.
