Abstract

Background: The increasing use of digital technology has expanded gadget exposure among school-age children, which may influence learning concentration and social interaction development in educational settings. Educational stakeholders therefore require empirical evidence to understand how gadget use relates to learning focus and interpersonal skills. Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between gadget use, learning focus, and interpersonal skills among school-age children. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional correlational design was employed. The study involved 60 students in grades IV and V at MI Najahiyah Seberang Ulu 1, Palembang, Indonesia, selected through purposive sampling based on predefined inclusion criteria. Data were collected using structured questionnaires measuring gadget use, learning focus, and interpersonal skills. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize respondent characteristics, while Spearman’s rho correlation test assessed associations between variables at a 95% confidence level. Results: The findings showed a statistically significant association between gadget use and learning focus (p < 0.001; r = 0.792) as well as between gadget use and interpersonal skills (p < 0.001; r = 0.764). Most respondents demonstrated moderate gadget use, generally high learning focus, and predominantly good interpersonal skills. These results indicate that variations in gadget use levels are closely related to differences in cognitive concentration and social interaction abilities among school-age children. Conclusion: Gadget use shows a significant association with learning focus and interpersonal skills among school-age children. Balanced and supervised gadget use is essential to support optimal academic engagement and social development.

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is an essential intervention for improving infant health, growth, and development. Despite its well-established benefits, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in several regions of Indonesia remains below target, including in the working area of Puskesmas Peninjauan, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. The success of exclusive breastfeeding is influenced by multiple maternal and environmental factors, including maternal knowledge, family support, parity, and pregnancy interval. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with the success of exclusive breastfeeding among breastfeeding mothers in the working area of Puskesmas Peninjauan, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. Methods: This study employed an analytical quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted from June to July 2025 and involved all mothers with infants aged 7–12 months in the working area of Puskesmas Peninjauan, with a total of 61 respondents selected using total sampling. Data were collected using a checklist form and structured questionnaires covering maternal knowledge, family support, parity, pregnancy interval, and exclusive breastfeeding success. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square test at a 95% significance level (α = 0.05). Results: Most respondents were aged 21–30 years (52.5%), had completed senior high school (37.7%), and were homemakers (88.5%). A total of 91.8% of mothers successfully practiced exclusive breastfeeding. Bivariate analysis showed that family support was significantly associated with exclusive breastfeeding success (p = 0.002), whereas maternal knowledge (p = 0.353), parity (p = 0.215), and pregnancy interval (p = 0.052) were not significantly associated. Conclusion: Family support was the most influential factor associated with the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Strengthening the involvement of husbands and family members in breastfeeding education and lactation support should be integrated into maternal and child health services to improve exclusive breastfeeding outcomes.

Abstract

The issue of inadequate breast milk (ASI) production among lactating mothers is a primary obstacle to the practice of exclusive breastfeeding for six months. “Insufficient breast milk production may stem from stress, exhaustion, inadequate nursing stimulation, or insufficient lactation-supportive nutrition. This study sought to assess the impact of katuk leaf (Sauropus androgynus) decoction on breast milk production in breastfeeding mothers residing in Kurungan Nyawa I Village, Buay Madang District, East OKU Regency. The intervention is providing 150 ml of Katuk leaf decoction everyday for seven consecutive days. This study employed a quasi-experimental design utilizing a pretest-posttest methodology without a control group. The sample comprised 17 lactating mothers. The Shapiro-Wilk test was employed to assess data normality, and the data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test. The results indicated a substantial impact of Katuk leaf decoction on enhancing breast milk production, with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05). The mean breast milk volume prior to treatment was 76.47 ml, which rose to 122.12 ml post-intervention, reflecting an average increase of 45.53 ml. This notable enhancement indicates that katuk leaf decoction positively influences breast milk production. Breastfeeding women with insufficient milk supply are advised to take katuk leaf decoction as a natural remedy to enhance lactation.
